HW perfomance

I have a G5 which unfortunately is slowly pigeon holing me due to lack of PPC software going forward.
Been think of getting a MacBook Pro, but have no clue what kind of HW requirements I will be up against. If anyone has experiences they can share with respect to using Logic Pro on a Macbook or Macbook Pro and would like to share, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Ted

It performs better than it will on your G5...
I don't really want to write a massive post about my laptop experiences and how I work. If you have any concerns, I'm happy to try and address them. If you just want to know whether running Logic on a laptop is fine, then yes it's fine, subject to the usual rules about expandability (you can't put 4 hard drives in the thing, you can't use PCI cards, you can't run three monitors etc).
if you want to know whether you can use multi-gigabyte massive orchestral and Tv sound design projects using hundreds of tracks and instruments and massive samples, I'd say a laptop is not exactly the machine best suited to the task - get a high-end Mac Pro system for that.
But it's perfectly capable of running decent projects, depending on your requirements, of which I have no idea...

  • Poor perfomance CORBA and EJB in Oracle 8i

Here are the perfomance results of methods invocations
(1000 invocations of empty method in an loop)
Oracle 8i CORBA ~100ms per method
Oracle 8i EJB ~100ms per method
Jonas EJB server ~5ms per method
    Java RMI ~3ms per method
Why Oracle 8i is so slow, even compared with noncommercial
EJB server Jonas? Is there any way to speed this up? Source codes of perfomance testing programs available upon request.

Oracle Jserver is quite fast and scalable. Nevertheless, there exists an important overhead in calling a CORBA or EJB method, so you should desing "heavy" functions in your EJB/CORBA objects. Instead of calling 10 times little methods, call one time a hevay one, and you'll find that JServer perforns very fast and reliably.

  • Fetching materials on basis of Division creating perfomance problem

    Hi Experts,
i am fetching Data from three table like
    select a~matnr a~extwg
    b~charg b~werks b~clabs b~cspem b~cinsm
    c~vfdat
from mara as a join mchb as b
    on a~matnr = b~matnr join mch1 as c on b~matnr = c~matnr  and b~charg = c~charg
    into table  itab_main
    where  a~spart = p_spart and b~werks = p_werks
    and b~lgort = 'FG01' .
    it is creating perfomance problem
so my questin is 'is there any index table for mara ?(like vrpma for vbak)'
so we can get all the material on base of division fast.
    Regards,
    Alpesh
Edited by: Alpesh on Jun 2, 2009 3:56 PM

    Hi Alpesh,
How about throwing MARC into the mix. I notice that you are searching with plant, storage location and division. Table MARC has an index on plant named WRK.
If you join MARA and MARC to first determine all the materials that qualify for the given plant and division combination, you can access table MCHB with material (MARA-MATNR), plant (MARC-WERKS) and storage location (FG01) i.e. the first 4 fields in the primary key of table MCHB.
I could not test this theory out because in our system we do not have any data in table MCHB. Your select executes quickly on my system.
Please let me know how this panned out.

  • Perfomance problem with java stored procedure

    hi,
i developped a java class, then I stored it in Oracle 8.1.7.
This class contains several import of other classes stored in the database.
It works, but the execution perfomances are disappointing. It's very long. I guess, that's because of the great number of classes to load that are necessary for my class execution.
I tried to increase the size of the java pool (I parameter 70 Mo in the java_pool_size parameter of the init.ora), but the performance is not much better.
Has anyone an idea to increase the performance of this execution of my class ?
In particular, is there a way to keep permanently in memory the java objects used by my class ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello again,
I read the documentation of 9i and found some hints about different TCP/IP socket handling of 9i and a standard JVM.
There are some parts that give hints but I couldn't find a sample code to show how to handle the differences.
Could anyone tell me how to handle the differences or give some links to sample code?

  • Help me regards perfomance:java.util.concurrent.Executors

    hi friends,
I implemented the concurrent.Executors in my project. to tell my problem consider a program that insert 1000 data into oracle database.
instead of inserting 1000 data as a single operations i created 5 threads using the concurrent API. and inserted 200 records per thread.
when i analyse the time(in miliseconds) i got the following result,
insert the 1000 records through a single thread thks 200 ms.
when i use 5 threads it taks atlease 200 ms to a single thread.
so every threads finished it in 200 or 210 ms. so both perfomance is equal.
Buy i want to run the each thread in 200/5. time. then my perfomance will be improved.
    Can anybody help me.
    With regards Prince

i think eventhough i use the seperate connection i
got some lock on some object when my Statement(not
PreparedStatement) executes the query(by some other
threads) so all the threads taks almost same time to
finish like ordinary operation. is't it. i want to
speadup the operation. Three threads doing the same stuff taking five turns each:
    1
    2
    3
    1
    2
    3
    1
    2
    3
    1
    2
    3
    1
    2
    3
Notice something? They all start and end at the same time.
because in my company i am doing the process with
80000 data. i taks 1 hour to complete all tasks. how
can i minimize the time by using the threads?Find the bottleneck first.

  • Change pointer perfomance issue(bd22)

    Hi,
we are using message type HRMD_A to transfer the employee change data using the program RBDMIDOC. we are checking two table BDCP n BDCPS, but because of large number of data we r facing a perfomance issue here. I read in one forum about transaction BD22 which deletes the change pointer from these tables, but is it safe to use? and also what is the obsolete change pointer?
Thanks in advance for ur inputs.

    Hey,
It is advisable to reorganize change pointer tables at regular intervals for better performance of programs accessing the BDCP* tables.
BD22 is a standard report delivered by SAP and it is absolutely safe to run this report. It also has o test run option. You could always run the report in test mode to analyze the data the report had selected for deletion.
Obsolete change pointers are those which have been created up to the specified date and time. In BD22, if this checkbox is marked, obsolete change pointers will be reorganized regardless of whether they have yet been processed.
Processed change pointers are those which have been processed in the specified period (date and time). If this checkbox is marked, the processed change pointers are reorganized.

  • How to improve perfomance in database operations

In my programme i do some select, insert operations many time. so when i run my program with atlease 80000 customer data it takes 1 hrs to complete the task.

  • View is affecting the perfomance

    Hi all,
I have a query that retrives the data from two views.
    SELECT
    DISTINCT
    di.emp_name,
    di.age,
    di.department
    FROM
    data.v_employee di

    data.v_role r USING (emp_id)
    WHERE
    r.roll_name = 'manager' AND
    di.age='50' AND
    di.experience >20
    r.supervisor is null;
This query is taking more time to execute.when i am executing this views with inputs individualy, the query is running too fast, but when joining the two views the query takes more than 30 minutes some times results not coming while an hour.
I am not supposed to change the views for perfomance.the only option i have to make this query faster with out changing the views.
Does an optimizer hints will we works for the view select query to improve perfomance?
Is there any other way to re write query that improve perfomance.
Please help to understand the view perfomance in a select query.
Thanks in advance for your response.

  • SQL Developer 1.1.0.23.64 on Mac OSX 10.4.8 - very very bad perfomance.

    Hello!
I just downloaded SQL Developer 1.1.0.23.64 and I'm wondered by its inappropriately bad perfomance. "Tables" and "Views" node can't be opened, and simple (very simple) query "select * from dual" executes 15 to 30 seconds. Can it be worked around in any way? Oracle versions are 10g and 9i - looks like it works the same bad way on both of them.

I have 1.25Gb operating memory, jdk 1.5.0_06 (latest Mac JDK). I do not have neither sql*plus nor oracle client installed (and there are no such requirements in the installation guide) - everything works fine and fast enough with JDBC drivers in SQL4X as well as in projects being under development. I'm using JDBC drivers from ojdbc14.jar. The only program that very slow in SQL execution is SQL Developer, unfortunately...

  • Perfomance of HW for eBS 12.1.3 & DB 11.2.0.2

    Hi,
we are configuring servers (CPU's, core, RAM,..) for using by eBS 12.1.3 (fresh install) (2 servers with all application services) and DB 11gR2 (an unique server like DB server). I have reviewed various notes and documents about issue but I don't find information about perfomance of eBS and DB by resources of servers.
    So, my questions are:
1.- What type of HW resources consume a EBS 12.1.3 with Db 11gR2? I refer CPU's, core, threads, RAM, Processor speed (Mhz), ...
2.- If I want a HW good perfomance, how should I configure my servers (more CPUs, more core's, more Threads, more RAM,..)?
My objective is to evaluate perfomance/scalability/price of serverS because if eBS & DB consume more RAm than CPU perhaps we need to buy servers with more RAM and less CPU...
Appologies if I have opened this thread associated an incorrect forum ...

  • Perfomance Monitoring on R/3

    Hi All,
We have a System and SAP version is R/3 Enterprise and its on Oracle 9.2.0.7 and AIX 5.3. There are Perfomance issues with the System and its responding Slowly.
I have checked ST03 and Dialog response time is 1000, which is good as per our standard of Rating, i checked in ST04 and see that the Hit ratio for All the Buffers is 99% But there are lot of Swaps happening in the System. I checked SM50 and see that Almost all the Work processes are free. Is there anything in Specific which you look when ur trying to analyze the bottle Necks .
    Regards,
    Ershad Ahmed.

    hi Ershad,
First you have to stop and start the database. swaps will be lost, othersise you have to increase your rolling and paging area memory size using rdisp/ parameters. in rz10, rz11.

  • Perfomance Issue after Database Upgrade in 11i

    Hi All,
We upgraded database from 9.2.0.5 to 10.2.0.4, the system was running fine. One month after upgrade we changed the compatibility from 9.2.0 to 10.2.0 for compatibilty and optimizers. Since then perfomance is poor for self service and PTO carry over is taking more then 10 hours, earlier which completes in 1:15 min to 1:30 min. I logged a SR and following with Oracle Support.

  • SELECT FROM AUSP perfomance improvement

    Hi!
Generally speaking our problem is long runtimes for transactions dealing with configuration (CU50, VA01/VA02/VA03).
ABAP runtime analysis (SE30) and performance trace analysis (ST05) clearly show that 85% percents of total execution time is spent on single SELECT statement of standard FM (CLSE_SELECT_AUSP), which is called many thousands of times:
select * from ausp appending table x_ausp
                                 for all entries in ix_objek
                     where objek  eq ix_objek-low
                     and   mafid  in ix1_mafid
                     and   klart  eq klart
                     and   atwrt  in x_wertc
                     and   atflv  in x_wertn
                     and   atcod  in ix1_atcod
                     and   datuv  <= key_date.
In spite of database specific request always looks like:
    SELECT * FROM AUSP
    WHERE MANDT = :A0
    AND "OBJEK" = :A1
    AND "MAFID" = :A2
    AND "KLART" = :A3
    AND "DATUV" <= :A4
and access is done based on index AUSP~N3 range scan we have an unacceptable runtimes.
Can anybody suggest any perfomance tuning? We tried to create custom index based only on fileds from previous select, but improvment is too small. Is it possible to activate some type of table buffering for AUSP? Any help appreciated.
    Regards,
    Maxim.

    Hello Maxim,
Are the database statistics up to date for this table ?
You can do this using program RSANAORA (if you have an oracle database). This should ensure you the right index is chosen. You might want to check with your BC people first, as this is normally their job.
    kind regards
    Pieter
