HW to be able play digital 5.1 audio?

I use Plex to play my movies, but all have just stereo sound - even those which have ac3 (5.1) or DTS track. Front Row works not, also Quicktime because of staccto-helicopter sound (possible undecoded digital track sent to analog output, somewhere diskussed as lastest bug).
But my idea is - is it possible to connect to digital output of Mini some device, which will be able to decode digital audio to 5.1 analog channels (my audio system (Genius SW-HF5.1) has i think Mini Din-9 input (or it looks like) - that's analog, right?).
I bought external USB sound card - but it seems it is not possible to decode digital signal or produce 5.1 sound. Maybe lack of driver support for Mac OS X, it available just driver for older system.
So is some digital receiver possible solution? Is there available some cheap low-end solution?

The 'standard' way of doing 5.1 digital sound with a Mac is to use an optical mini TOS-Link cable (at the Mac end) to a standard TOS-Link which you then connect to an AV Receiver (e.g. a Denon or Onkyo). The AV Receiver then has individual connections to the 5 + 1 speakers (two front, two back, one centre front, and the sub-woofer).
This is perfectly possible with your Mac mini and the Plex software.
There are two other possible approaches.
1. Get a Griffin FireWave - see http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/firewave with this you can connect 5.1 speakers directly (well via this box) to your Mac.
2. Get a USB or FireWire sound 'card', perhaps one made by M-Audio.
If you Mac will be located by itself, then I would suggest the Griffin FireWave, if it will be in your living room along with your TV etc. then I would suggest using an AV Receiver as your other equipment (e.g. a BluRay player, PS3, set-top box, etc.) could all share it.

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin which is unrelated to either iPhone or IMovie.
Uninstall your current copy of Flash then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Relaunch your browser. Empty the browser cache. If you use Safari, go to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Try a video.

ITunes rented movie not outputting Dolby Digital 5.1 audio

The problem with the downloaded movie (Real Steel HD) is
that the Dolby Digital 5.1 (English) audio is not being putput. The movie is only playing back in
"stereo" mode. When playing back on iTunes there are four audio tracks
to choose from:
1. English 1 (This plays stereo)
2. English 2 (NO SOUND) - I believe this should be the Dolby Digital track
3. French (This plays stereo)
4. Spanish (This plays stereo)
Neither of the two English tracks is outputting Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.
I have confirmed that my PC is capable of up to 7.1 surround sound and
my A/V receiver is capable of even more. I have updated both the ATI
Radeon 4500 driver and the Realtek drivers. I have tested and
confirmed that my PC is capable of outputting sound to all 5 of my
speakers and my subwoofer, HOWEVER when playing back the rented movie
in iTunes the maximum audio is stereo. I have the latest version of
iTunes installed, so that shouldn't be the problem.
I have also purchased another movie advertised as Dolby Digital 5.1
audio (The Bourne Supremecy HD) but I am afraid to begin my 24-hour
viewing period because of these audio problems being unresolved.
My question is: Are there known issues of movies purchased on iTunes
and played back on a Windows 7 PC not playing the Dolby Digital
tracks? If so, is there a fix for this via an iTunes settings change
or a Windows update patch?
From the four audio tracks that I listed above, I believe track 2 is
the Dolby Digital track, yet there is NO SOUND when that track is
selected.
Please help, as this is pretty frustrating when your movie night is ruined for the family especially after you've paid for and waited for the movie to download.

I managed to get my DD tracks working.
First had to update itunes to the latest version (10.7.0.21) to get rid of the out of sync sound problem
Then updated the realtek driver. There was an update directly in the realtek website (mine is the HD Audio): http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24& Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
After all that. I tunes wasn't allowing anymore to select the Doubly Digital 5.1 tracks (an improvement).
Then went to the windows properties for the realtek optical output and checked both options to allow application exclusive access and to have priority (http://dailykermit.wordpress.com/2009/09/11/windows-7-exclusive-device-control/)
After all this, I was able to enjoy my rental

How do I get the songs on my mac to play through my home audio receiver , USING THE MAC?

The sales person at the apple store told me Apple TV would do that wirelessly. While I can play the songs on my computer through my home theater by using the screen on the TV that Apple TV creates, I want to be able to just go to my mac, select my playlists and have those songs play through my home audio. I don't want to go through the whole Apple TV nonsense....

No you bought the correct device
In iTunes you should see an AirPlay icon in the lower right hand side of the window (a box with a triangle in it).
Click on the AirPlay icon and you should see the Apple TV listed in the drop down list. You should have the option to play music to the Computer, your Apple TV and Multiple Speakers (i.e.you can play to Compouter & Apple TV at the same time). Select the Apple TV, the Apple TV should then turn on and your music will then play to it without the need to turn on the actual TV screen (might take a few secs for the Apple TV to wake up and fr playbask streaming to start, give it a chance to start up).
You just use iTunes in the normal way, playing what ever music you want, the output now goes to the Apple TV instead of the Computer.

Can't play .amr files (MMS audio) after upgrading to iOS4

I was able to play .amr files (MMS audio) prior to upgrading to iOS4 on my iPhone 3G but now get a notice saying this file type is not supported. Does anyone know how I can play these files on my phone again? Thanks!

Hello, I'm using CDHtmlDialog in our application to play swf that shows user how to do a workflow. It works fine if swf does NOT have audio; if the swf has audio component, then it does not play.
Can CDHtmlDialog play swf with audio?

Dtt 3500 - Can't choose Dolby Digital DIN / PCM Audio

Hey all,
I've had a DTT 3500 for quite some time now and I was always very satisfied with this surround system.
I recently bought a new 7.1 System for my computer and now use the DTT 3500 along with my videobeamer to play Playstation 2 and XBox games... the soundoutput from these devices works perfect.
My problem is as follows:
I would like to use my DTT 3500 from my computer too, I hooked the DTT 3500 up to my Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS soundcard with the "digital cable" that came with the DTT 3500. I then choose 5.1 speakers and "Digital Output Only"... but I don't hear any sound coming from the DTT 3500.
According to the manual I have to choose "Dolby Digital DIN / PCM Audio". When I try button with which one would accomplish that, I fail as I can only select Optical and Coaxial... I never get a "green light" next to "Dolby Digital DIN / PCM Audio".
Does anybody have the same problem?
The Audigy 2 ZS works wonderful with my 7.1 system and if I uncheck "Digital Output Only" I hear sound, all no problem... also, if I use an AC3 source (eg. XBox 360) I hear sound from the DTT 3500... I just have a problem hooking it up via digital output from my PC with Audigy 2 ZS...
Please help, this is driving me nuts! (And I tried to get it to work all sunday long... )

Try disconnecting and then reconnect the DIN cable again. The speaker will need to detect a DIN connection first before the DIN option is selectable on the speaker end.

QT + MPEG-2 plays video but no audio

I'm trying to play mpeg-2 videos that were created by my video camera. I've got QT 10.0 running on OS X 10.6.4. I found QT didn't recognize .mpg, so I purchased the mpeg-2 playback component. With it installed, I can now view my .mpg videos but they have no sound. What am I doing wrong?

Just to document what I've found so far. I tried installing QT 7, the MPEG-2 addition from apple again. It would still play video but no audio. Unfortunately, the test mpeg-2 from apple support DID work, which indicated I must have something wrong with my file. However, this is one of 250+ files I have recorded from my digital camcorder and they play on any number of Windows players without issue.
I then tried Perian codecs since I found references it would address a similar problem. I tried VCD and MPEG Tools from BurningThumb. I tried mpeg screenclip. I also tried changing my Audio Midi setup to 2ch-16 bit from 2ch-24 bit. All to no avail.
In the process I found that my .mpg files and .avi files had the same problem. Both played video fine but neither had audio. I then installed VLC and presto! All worked as they were supposed to!
I still don't know why QT won't play it--it seems like it should.

Playing one piece of audio across a few menus

Hi! Does anyone know how to attach audio to a button and have this same piece of audio (when activated) play across various menus and also be able to pause and resume? Basically I need to allow the user to flick through a few PDFs and be able to listen to the audio that's attached to these PDFs if and when they choose to and pause and resume when it suits them at any point during any of the PDFs. I was thinking of putting each PDF as a menu essentially unless anyone has a better suggestion? Ie There's only one piece of audio and there may be 10 PDFs.

One, viewing a PDF is not part of the DVD specification, so you won't be able to do that from Encore at all
Second, sound goes with the menu in a DVD, so changing to a different menu means new sound
To view a PDF on a disc, you need to do computer programming... or, maybe, one of these products
Use Encore and http://www.intellidisc.com/ for a "movie" DVD which has computer content,
or use Macromedia Director http://www.adobe.com/products/director/ by itself
Or use Sony DVD Studio http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/dvdastudio

How to play more than 2 audio at the same time in a page

I worked for interactivity book's page in Hype and I inserted two audio in a page
One is background music played when page opend, Other is effect audio that played when touch the object.
i added this widget in ibooks author.
In ibooks-author on mac, i can hear two sound well. but in ibooks on ipad i got the problem..
When i touch the object and play effect sound, background audio is stopped.
Moreover, after effect sound ended then bgm is not played.
i hope to hear two sound at the same time on ibooks, if not, play bgm continue after effect audio over.
plz answer this problem.. T.T

How can I get iTunes 11 to play a video's audio over airplay on my Denon?

It still shows AppleTV, but on the previous iTunes version it would play a video's audio on the Denon through Airplay.

If the Denon shows in airplay mirroring you can just turn on mirroring and get the sound. Otherwise try System Preferences -> Sound -> Output and choose the Denon there. Any system sound will play through the airplay device. I don't know why apple doesn't just give an airplay option from the menu bar sound icon to make this easier.... seems like they are pushing people to mirror

G510 Dolby Digital Plus Advanced Audio doesnt work driver problem with Windows 8.1

my Lenovo G510 has Windows 8.1 64-bit.
In the system menue of Hardware and Sound I can see two entries:
1) Dolby Digital Plus Advanced Audio
2) Dolby Digital Plus Advanced Audio (32-bit)
Clicking on the first entry a control panel appears. Does this mean that Dolby Digital Plus Advanced Audio is always running in the backround? There is no entry in the systray.
Clicking on the second entry this error message appears:
Your current installed version is 7.3.2.2 of the Dolby Digital Plus audio driver. The software needs the driver version 7.5.1.1. Installe a correct combination of driver and software.
What to do with this? I searched for a solution and drivers but couldn´t find anything.

I’m sorry to hear that “Dolby Digital plus Advanced Audio” is not working as expected in your G510 Laptop and displaying an error message to install the upgraded version of the Dolby driver in the computer, below are the troubleshooting steps to check and resolve this issue.
Open Device Manager. (Right-click on the Start button and choose Device Manager).
Expand the Sound, Video and Games Controllers section.Right Click on the Conexant Smart Audio HD item and choose Uninstall.
Still in Device Manager, click on Action>Scan for new Hardware.
The Conexant Smart Audio item will re-appear.Right-Click on it and choose update driver.Navigate to d:\drivers\audio.When that's done, close Device Manager.Open File Manager and navigate to D:\drivers\Audio\DolbyGUI and install Dolby Digital plus Advanced Audio.
That should get rid of the error message and this version of Dolby Digital plus Advanced Audio should be working as expected.
Do post us back if the issue persists.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues).
I have created a User Tip to list Apps that have been tested with Video Airplay, if you have any Apps that you have tested please email me details and I'll add them to the User Tip.
