I am a confused new

I recently purchased a creative zen. I have managed to download music, but cannot figure out how to trasfer it to the player. I have read the help and I am only more confused. Can you help me.
Sources to playlist to PC music to Content (where is that)? How do I and to where do I drag and drop?
Please help I am leaving for vacation to night. Thanks

The way I would recommend is as follows...
. Obviously connect your player to the PC, and start MediaSource.
2. Using the previous screenshot, the first one, open out the right-hand pane in MediaSource.
3. Select My Computer as the source in the left-hand window.
4. Select your player as the source in the right-hand side.
5. In the left-hand side navigate to where your audio files are located.
6. Select those files then click the transfer arrow that points to the right. This will transfer the files to the player.
7. Repeat this for all files as needed.
That's really all you need to do.
To delete the music you just select it in MediaSource, then press the delete key (or choose delete from the menus).

  • Import Confusion-New Mac Convert

I have both iPhoto and Aperture (trial) loaded on my system. All of my photos (from my PC days) are on an external HD now connected to my Mac. I'm very confused about the import and storage process. Technically, all my photos are already stored, yet when I 'import' them into iPhoto as 'events' it appears they are being restored somewhere else- maybe just my own paranoia, but it's taking longer than I'd expect to just be storing thumbnails. Next issue, when I connect my camera, photos start to load into both iPhoto AND Aperture.
I'd like to keep my photos 'stored' on my external hard drive, not my internal mac drive. How do I control this in a way that isn't discouraging? In the PC world I considered myself an expert and things were very controllable and logical. Help! Thanks.

    psurgery
I considered myself an expert and things were very controllable and logical.
As they are on the Mac. And if you want to replicate the system you used on the PC then do that. A simple, logical system of folders in the File System (the Finder) will be something that any expert can understand
If, however, you want to use iPhoto (or Aperture) then you need to realise that these are not FILE organisers but PHOTO organisers. It's a key difference and the first one you need to grasp to make sense of the Applications.
The advantage of either application is simple: it offers vastly more organising, categorising and searching power than folders in the Finder. They integrate throughout the Operating System. They do other stuff too. I'll talk about iPhoto here, though anything iPhoto does Aperture does - and then a whole lot more.
By default, iPhoto copies the files to the iPhoto Library on import. It wants to manage the FILES so you can manage the PHOTOS. The idea is that you focus on the iPhoto Window and do all your work there - create Albums, Smart Albums, keywords and so forth.
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. It will create an alias to the Original file, a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, that can be easily done from the iPhoto Window.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Aperture has more robust tools for working with managed files than iPhoto.
Remember, you've changed OS, there's a learning curve and it takes a little time.
btw: The photos are not imported into either application unless you expressly tell the apps to import.
    Regards
    TD

  • Color Managment and CS3 Confusion - new LCD

Please help, I'm just learning about how Ps handles color and this is driving me nuts.
I'm using Ps CS3 in Vista 32-bit. Just got a new Dell 2408wfp LCD monitor. I'm using the default color profile it installed with monitor (specific to the monitor, not a "generic monitor" profile). Picture colors look great in Ps workspace. When go to "save for web" the images look way oversaturated (more orangish). In the save for web options, it's currently set to "uncompensated". If I change it to "Use document profile" or "standard windows color", it looks correct in "Save for web" preview. However, if I save it with either of these 2 settings and open it in IE, it looks bad again. In Ps, under "edit", my "color setting" is set to "North American General Purpose 2" with the workspace set to sRGV IEC61966-2.1. If I got to view -> proof setup -> and select "monitor RGB", the Ps workspace looks just like the "save for web" preview. My "Color Management" in the Vista Control Panel has the following settings:
Devices tab, ICC profile = Dell 240WFT color profile, D6500 default.
Advanced tab, device profile = system default (sRGB IEC61966-2.1)
Advanced tab, viewing conditions profile = WCS profile for sRGB viewing conditions.
What is going on here? From the forums it seems like either Ps is wrong or my monitor is. Which version is truly in the image? What I see in Ps workspace or in the "save for web" preview? In this scenario what version would my website visitors see (bad or good image color)? Could Ps be "correct" and saving without a color profile when "save for web" and then IE is using my monitor profile and therefore looking bad? How can I fix?
    Thanks in advance!

"What was confusing to me is ON MY MONITOR it looks good in Ps. "
What's confusing about this. Of course it looks good on your screen. Ps is using your monitor profile in conjunction with the workspace profile to display correctly. As soon as you view that sRGB image in Monitor RGB, which is what your other apps are doing, the on screen view goes to hell.
"If I then follow that logic, I should just ignore the SFW and final visualized output on my monitor in my workflow and hope my end users visiting my website don't have wide gamut monitors with goofy color profiles?"
Yes, that's about the best you can do. Actually embedding the profile and pushing for profile aware applications like Safari to become more widespread.
"Seems like this approach doesn't correct the problem for me or visitors to my website with a similar monitors. And if the issue is just my monitors color profile, why don't all images on the web also look color shifted on my monitor?"
How far off images look depends a lot on the image in question. Some types of images don't shift very much at all while others look hugely different. Also, if you're looking at images other than your own, you have no idea under what conditions (viewing and calibration) those images were adjusted. There are so many people, even professionals, who don't yet understand color spaces and calibration that you can't take anything for granted unless you do it yourself. For instance, I work with a lot of stock images from agencies like Getty and even though most of the files have embedded profiles, almost all of them were corrected by people who had no idea of how to properly do color and tonal correction, yet, somehow, you have to assume they thought the images looked great on their systems.

  • Confused new user

My husband bought an iMac after a nightmare experience with Microsoft, and, since I do all the computer troubleshooting in the family, he soon went out and got me a MacBook Pro so I would concentrate on OSX and forget all about Windows! I was pretty adept at all thing Windows, and I am going NUTS trying to get up to speed n a Mac! All of this by way of explanation of why I am probably going to become a gigantic pest in the next few weeks!!
The very first questions which have come up are:
    1. How do you set the font and color of Mail so that your emails ALWAYS write in a desired color without having to go up and set it each time? (I have discovered a way to do it using "signatures", putting a "," (or something) in the desired color, starting to write after that and then deleting it. Clumsy and inelegant!
2.Is there a place to leave notesto oneself and have the computer send reminders?
    3. What's the equivalent of Microsoft Word? Or: where do you compose letters?
Enough for now, but Ill be back! Thanks in advance.

After opening up the app. Mail, click under "Mail" -> "preferences". The prefs window pop up and then select "Fonts & Colors". There you'll see the default font options. Click "select" on the Message Font and another window will pop up where you can change the font and well as the color. Once you have the font and color the way you prefer, close the windows by clicking on the RED buttons on the top left-hand corner of each window.
2.Is there a place to leave notesto oneself and have the computer send reminders?
The way I do this is to use iCal. Create a new event by double clicking in the date and another window will pop up and there you can set times, notes AND ALARMS i.e. reminders.
    3. What's the equivalent of Microsoft Word? Or: where do you compose letters?
Microsoft makes an equivalent called Office for Mac that basically mimics every app that Microsoft Office has. Another and it's FREE is NeoOffice. This suite has equivalents for each Micro. Office equivalent as well. And it will open up office documents without fuss. And did I mention it was FREE?
But if you're composing letters for email, you could merely do so in Mail.
    Hope this helps and enjoy!

  • Confused new user: ACR - PS CSS standard - bridge - aperture

I am a mac user, latest OS Lion, and use aperture 3.0 - I only use this for photography and a friend convinced me to use PS for high level retouching.
I watched a few presentation and was convinced, I ordered Photoshop CSS 5.5 standard version (not extended) and I am waiting for it. Purchase processing will take another 2 weeks
I downloaded the trial for PS, but it is the extended version, not sure what I will not be able to do
also watched a few training movies and presentation material and they all refer to Camera Raw which seems to be a separate application.
There is also bridge and mini bridge (?) included but is it only in extended trial and will I get it in my standard PS CSS 5.5
I would like to keep using aperture for my workflow and storage.
Do I need to purchase camera raw or is it included in my PS standard?
or do I perform the functions of CR in Aperture?? There seem to be a number of basic functions with curves etc... which I believe can be done in aperture but then are my files compatible to send to PS?
I think I will use the Edit with external editor in Aperture
Is anyone familiar with this? advise?
thanks a lot for your help

Yikes, Jeffrey!    One can do exactly that directly from Adobe Camera Raw hosted by either Photoshop or Bridge too!
One doesn't need "no stkinkin' Lightroom" for that.
    ==============================
    Bernard,
There is nothing, absolutely nothing you can do in Lightroom or in Aperture that you cannot do to an image file in Photoshop and ACR.
Lightroom is great for a professional fashion photographer who has to process 500 very similar images from a studio shoot, but again, there is nothing, absolutely nothing you can do in Lightroom or in Aperture that you cannot do to a single image file in Photoshop and ACR.

  • Confused - new 2014 CC updates

I am a photographer. I have a subscription to CC-Camera Raw-Bridge. I have not noticed any updates to CC. No one is talking about Camera Raw or Bridge. Everything seems to be CC and Lightroom. What am I missing? Do I need to do anything?

I use a  windows 7 pro and have no problem like that from bridge cc when I select a thumbnail then use menu Tools>Photoshop>Image Processor..  I see Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 start up then I see the Image processor dialog and that one file is selected in the bridge I the complete the dialog and click run.  The image files are created. Photoshop remains open after the image files are create with no open documents. I need to click on the bridge in the task bar to bring bridge back into focus.

Can give new icons/Colors for each number [MOBILE (Home/Business)]
    Include smiley's.
Birthday Reminders in Calender taking from contacts.(As like anniversary)

Thank you nokia for the recent release of v30. Below are what nokia is still missing and still need work on for nokia x6.
    Messaging
-Ability to select multiple messages with ease (Check boxes)
-Ability to search within the messages without having to use a Search app
-Ability to predict text in Qwerty mode, correct typos
-Allow users to set the preferred connection to sync emails (Currently it doesn't allow users to choose during first email configuration wizard)
-Remove "show open apps" from option menu (Redundant, this option is already available when holding middle key)
    Home screen
-Ability to display notification like older nokia smart phone models (received messages, missed calls) and able to integrate with facebook app to display facebook notification.
-API to be improved to allow apps to integrate with it, allow tweeter notification, facebook, friendster. (Must have option to select/disable)
    -Widget support
-Allow adding of more app short cuts (Can use the readily available technique used to display contacts)
    Music player
-Ability to search music within player
    -Improve music player performance
-Allow music player to update music contents (album art, album info)
    Connection manager
-Allow users to disable a specific type of connection  from taking place
-When a connection has already taken place especially if its WIFI, all other apps (browser, ovi store, music store, ovi contacts) must not ask what connection to take. This improves user friendliness
-Link to connection log (remove connection log from the "Log" application
-Allow a type of connection to be set as default: (Example I set WIFI as default) this makes all application to use WIFI or search for WIFI to begin connection
    Log
    - Log should be broken down to sub categories : Call log, Internet log, System log, Messaging log
-New feature to display system logs which is able to display error messages, crashes, hangs, and background apps that has performed something successfully (eg, successfully Connected at 12.00am)
-Allow security module to prevent access to all logs and allow users to choose to password protect their logs
    Menu
    - Allow users to move menu items easily (Ability to select multiple objects eg icon is highlighted to show that it is selected) and move items to another location in one go

    - Improve logic of screen taping: [single tap to select, double tap to open]. Currently this is not uniform throughout the system. Some functions require double tap some opens in single tap
    - Display available RAM (Random access memory) so that users know how many tasks can run or can be opened.
    System
    -Improved CPU management
    -Improved RAM/memory management
-Ability to isolate hanged application and display "App has hanged, end task?"
-Allow rotation to be locked from Options (Userful when on bed or in car )
    Browser
    -Tabbed browsing
-Allow users to hold screen on a link or anywhere on the screen to open a sub menu which displays : "Select text", "copy", "paste", "open new window"
-Better web rendering for big websites so that "Memory full please close some apps" is not displayed.
    -Better flash rendering
    -Improved flash player
-Extension support, allow community developers to create extensions
    -Improved buttons :
    Remove the Options and Stop
Replace with specific buttons/symbols that serves one function. (Currently Stop is able to change to Back, change to Close)
Buttons should be placed on a tab that hides when finger moves away and neatly slides up when finger comes close to the bottom
    Camera
-Allow settings to be saved example (color type :normal, vivid) so that it is available when camera starts up again
    Bluetooth
    - Allow users to choose where a file is to be saved
    - Separate received bluetooth files from Inbox.
    - Dedicated inbox for receiving bluetooth files (In a case of receive multiple files)
    - Battery saving mode : Caps speed and range in this mode
    Gallery
    -Improve the zooming speed
-Improve loading of large image files
-Ability to search for an image from the gallery itself
-Ability to create folders in the image gallery
    Video Player
-Ability to support codes that can be downloaded and installed or purchased
-New supported formats for commonaly used videos like dviX, rmvb, mkv
    Ovi store
    - Improve loading speed as it is such a small app
    - Integrate with TopApp
    Games
    - The games folder is unlogical as users can place anything in that folder
    - Should be a "Game Centre" which integrates it self to Ovi Store and ability to download games from there, and install together
-Sort games based on type :Action, Adventure, Sports,
-Support for more API to allow creative developers to make better games
    Some ridiculous logic
Ovi store, ovi music follows the internet settings of the browser. This confuses new users. Ovi store should have independant settings so should ovi music.
Thats all for now. You see nokia, if you improve these features you are allowing millions of customers to be at peace. We buy your product because we still have hope.
The creation of Nokia X6 has dissapointed many customers because of its instability, uniform features, speed. Functionality wise nokia lacks its "smart" as a smart phone. All the features I suggested above is "possible" to be worked on. Improve this features so that more customers will have faith on your future models.

  • How the X does the new Acrobat affect us?

All the hype and the marketing splurge and the confusing new names and the etc about Acrobat X....  How does it affect the Indesign user if at all?  Looks to me like Acrobat X Pro is the same as Acrobat X-less Pro...?  So business as usual?

Business as usual less £223 for the upgrade if you live in the UK (which is equivalent to $350, so a bit higher than the $199 that US users pay for the same upgrade). That's just a few months after upgrading to CS5. It does fully integrate with MS Office 2010, though!

  • News Flash

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Sitting on your couch for hours waiting for the cable guy, a kitchen cabinet delivery or Internet technician to show up is not only frustrating, it's a huge waste of money.
Time spent waiting for in-home services and appointments cost American workers $37.7 billion in 2011, according to an IBOPE Zogby poll of more than 1,000 adults conducted on behalf of cloud-computing software company TOA Technologies.
Nearly three-quarters of respondents (72%) perceived the cost of one hour of their time to be worth more than $15 an hour, with the average consumer losing close to $250 last year waiting to show up at their home.
More than half, or 58%, of Americans said they waited for in-home appointments in the past year, for an average of four and a half hours. The average number of times they waited last year was about three.
Who keeps us waiting the longest? It may not come as that big of a surprise but the vast majority of Americans, or 57%, say they spent the most time waiting for the cable guy. Other appointments that kept respondents waiting included Internet service and repair, furniture delivery, computer repair and phone services.

There are some confusing news on what has been announced. The correct interpretation is that Adobe will stop investing in the FlashPlayer plugin embedded in mobile browsers and concentrate on AIR applications for mobile. So, Flex is still a viable platform to build AIR applications that runs both on desktop and mobile or other devices.
While HTML5 is great to build textual applications (and you can get some device support for multiple platforms using things like PhoneGap) AIR is still the only viable way to build multi-platforms real time/multimedia/p2p applications (leveraging LCCS and/or FMS) and it will be a long time before HTML5 will have equivalent features (and when it does we'll be happy to provide a migration/integration path).

  • Annoying: Mail app opens randomly after screen saver login

    Hi
I have my security settings setup so that everytime my iMac goes into screen saver mode it asks for login password. Recently I have noticed that if I leave the computer unattended for a long period of time (a few hours) and come back, the mail app opens up. If I just go away for a few minutes and come back the problem does not occur.
Since I am not using the mail app and have not set it up, the setup account window is the one to come up.
I have checked the Login Items under Accounts in System Preferences and it's not there. I have also right clicked the icon in the dock and checked if it was set to start up automatically - it isn't.
I have read online this maybe has something to do with email alerts from iCal but I have not set up iCal to send email, nor do I know where I can disable that type of feature. This is happening even when iCal is closed and I have no events for that day. I've looked around in the prefrences of iCal and disabled any option that has something to do with email but it still happens.
The next logical step was to check Activity Monitor to try and see what started a process. You see I am originally a Windows user and have recently converted my OS religion. Back in Windows when something like this happened I had many tools that could tell me what started the application and even it's command line. But with the Mac all i have is the activity monitor and I'm still not familiar. I have clicked the process and then inspect, the parent process indicated launchd, pressing that lead me to another inspector window still without much info.
How can I solve this, it is becoming rather annoying?
Also does anyone know a better process monitor for mac? or how to use top on the terminal to get the information I need?
Please help a confused new mac user!
    Thanks

So I've tried both of the tips you gave my guys, but non of them works
But I've found out something. When I switch to different space (in spaces), than drop some file and then try to switch back to my mail space, there are 2 possibilities how to do it. First - I just move mouse to the space to where I want to switch, wait for a second and it switch automatically or I can move mouse to the space where I want to switch and than press spacebar to make it faster.
The strange thing with opening app from dock happens just when I press the spacebar.
And question for your other answer - yes, it happens just with apps in my dock.
    It is so uncomfortable...
EDIT: few days ago I've run OnyX (which was probably mistake) and this happens probably since than. I used it because Snow Leopard got little bit slower so I wanted to clean it... It might be because of that.

  • All my Numbers and Pages files unable to open on iPad and iCloud

It looks like all of my Pages and Numbers files from my iPad have been lost by iCloud? I don't use these apps often, but now when I launch them, all of my files have an upwards arrow icon in the upper right corner. When I select any file, the arrow goes away in under a minute, but the file never opens. When I try to access the files from iCloud.com from my MacBook, it says "Spreadsheet can't be downloaded. Please try again." What happened to my files!!!! I can open the "Getting Started" help files in each app.
My iPad is set up to backup Documents & Data to iCloud. The Storage & Backup options say I have 1.9 GB out of 5GB available. When I go into Manage Storage, it says I am using 5.1 MB for Numbers and 3.6 MB for Pages. When I drill down on each, it lists all of my files that won't open.
I can open my Keynote files from iCloud and my iPad. These do not show the arrow on the files. Reading through help files, the arrow seems to indicate that the file needs to be uploaded to iCloud? Turning off wifi on the iPad does not affect how this works. Force closing the apps and rebooting have no effect.
Any ideas? Is this an Apple bug or a confusing new feature of iCloud?

well, did the test again.. created on the iPad : see screenshot and date. Don't see any document preview.
Also opened all documents on iPad... same result.

  • Cut and Paste Cross References

As some of you know, I'm updating a book composed of chapter files, with cross references between chapters. This used to be incredibly buggy, with crashes and broken references common. Some of that is improved in CS5.5, but a couple of big issues remain, and I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions.
    Two problems:
You generally can't cut and paste a cross reference. I have text that says "see page 27". I want to move this somewhere else in the same document. Cut it. Paste it. The paste comes in looking like this: "see <?>" -- and you get a broken link in the Hyperlinks panel. That really limits text editing. It doesn't always happen. Sometimes you'll paste and your cross reference works. But that's rare. And you can never copy and paste. That always breaks.
Cross references refer to absolute file pathnames. I'd like to rename some chapter files. But I dare not because I assume that all cross references to destinations in those files will break.
Anybody have any suggestions for either of these things? Number 1 is a real work-stopper right now.
    Many thanks,
    Steve

Okay, guys -- I've made some progress. And I really appreciate your support, now, and in the past.
Upgrading from 7.5.2 to 7.5.3 -- no improvement,
Save a new copy of the file via Save As -- no improvement,
Export as IDML and then just double-click the IDML to open it -- worked! (Is that the correct procedure? Anything else I need to do?)
It's still just about suicidal to try and edit text in any story containing multiple cross references to chapter files that aren't open. And adding a new cross reference is super-slow, during which time you're sure you're going to crash. But with the imported file, the new cross ref held.
One other point of confusion: new cross references display differently than ones created in older versions of the software. The old ones have dark grey boxes around them. New ones have light blue boxes. No mention of this in the help file that I could find. Even if you update an old cross ref, the dark grey remains. Only starting from scratch produces light blue.
Something corrupted that file, which IDML got rid of. It was corrupted by doing little more than adding or updating a bunch of cross references, and doing some minor text editing. No images in the file, so that had nothing to do with it.
Chapter file sizes, since you asked, are anywhere from 3 to 40 mb. The file I was having problems with is only 2.5 mb. The book contains 22 chapters. Long ago I converted it from one big file to separate chapters. Easier to manage, chapter numbering works more logically and chapter starts are easier to handle. But cross references worked a lot better with the single file.
In any event, problem solved for the moment, so thanks very much again. But Adobe really needs to look at this. It's been broken for way too long.

  • ATV Performance Problems

Help smart people! I just got an ATV. I successfully synched my iTunes library with my ATV. My ATV is connected to my TV via HDMI and MacBook Pro via wireless. I can see all of "my movies" in my ATV menu. However, when I select one of my videos it's very slow, very choppy and then times out. My ATV has an unobstructed wireless signal and is connected via wireless "n". Anyone having similiar performance problems? Suggestions?

    Create a secondary iTunes library....
I'm not so sure there really is such a thing as a "primary" iTunes library and a "secondary" iTunes library. An ATV can be synced to only one library at a time. Other libraries on the network can only be used for streaming. The "primary" and "secondary" library concept is an interesting if not artificial one.
    This is Winston's nomenclature.
Personally I preferred the old Sources selection from 1.0/1.1. software.
While the combined sync/stream listings for the sync library are intended to help, I think they confuse new users and maintaining and sorting this 'merged list' I feel may be partly responsible for sluggishness in 2.0+.
You knew what the source of the media was - AppleTV itself (content synced), streamed content from named libraries (including the sync library by default).

  • Fire wire: number of Pins?

I am bit confused & new to this forum... how many firewire pins does Mid-2010 Mac mini have and G4 power Mac tower have? could the transfer be done via ethernet cable?
    Hope to get reply soon...

Not if you use Firewire Target Disk mode, though having a monitor on the G4 would make it easy to verify that it is indeed in Target Disk mode. The G4's hard drive will mount on the iMac just as would any other external drive, so you can access files on it without needing to see anything on the G4 (which will only show a moving Firewire icon anyway).
    Regards.
