I am getting an error ORA 12514 TNS: no listener error

Please help me out with this error as i try to access Enterprise Manager Console or any other module with SYSTEM and MANAGER as the password i get this error.

Few obvious question... please check and revert back
1. Have you configured the TNSNAMES.ORA correctly on the client machine. Please check the hostname. If you have not given the IP of DB server then make sure the IP address is there in the "hosts" file, so that name can be resolved
2. Is the listener-up on DB server and configured on the same port that you have mentioned in TNSNAMES.ORA?
3. Is the database registered in the listener?
You can use net-assistant to check and configure the same.

    If I  add REMOTE_LISTENER pointing to SCAN ip address, Does it require DB bounce ? (Its production DB)

    I created Stby DB with the minimum parameters required, so that I configure BROKER and see it magic, but badly stuck in this situation here. I have read many docs related to this..but can not fix it unfortunately.
    Please guide me from your own experience as note ids, blogs are not helping me here...

    Hi,
    Your listener.ora file has SERVICE_NAME = dg_db2.domain whereas tnsnames.ora file has SERVICE_NAME = dg_db2.
    Check in your database for exact service name and reflect the same in both the files.
    SQL> sho parameter service_names
    Restart the listener and try connecting.
    Thank you!!

  • Hyperion startup error -ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

    Hi All,
    While restarting the hyperion service we see this exception. Nothing was changed on the hyperion server. Checking with DB team if anything was change on their end.
    Caused By: weblogic.common.ResourceException: weblogic.common.ResourceException: Could not create pool connection. The DBMS driver exception was: Listener refused the connection with the following error:ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

            Truncated. see log file for complete stacktrace
    We don't have oracle client on our end, so this is not a tnsnames issue. This is preventing all the hyperion services coming up.
    Thanks,

    The listener is up , the message is from the listener indicating the listener does not know of SID/SERVICE name that you are giving it. Manually connect to the db using sqldeveloper in order to make sure the parameters you are providing are working. Pay special attention to SID vs SERVICE_NAME. Then try to open config tool and go back to your database connection info. Reconfigure your database connection. It will likely you will find your connection error there. Also sometimes the config tool has trouble figuring out whether you mean SID or SERVICE_NAME. You can open advanced properties on the connection in configtool and specify / or : in the url.

  • TNS Error: ORA-12541: TNS: no listener.

    I have installed Oracle 9i on machine in Windows XP. When I try to open the database SID in the Enterprise Manager, it gives me TNS Error: ORA-12541: TNS: no listener.
    I have checked the Oracle Net Configuration:
    Protocol: TCP/IP
    Host: PNR18
    Port: 1521
    In the xp administrative tools, I found that the listener is on start.
    When I try to test trough ' Net Configration Assistant' getting same error, similarly with Net Manager.
    I don't know if I am using the correct protocol in my case of standalone installation.
    Any advice/correction? it would be appreciated. I am giving all the information of TNSNAMES.ORA, LISTENER.ORA, SQLNET.ORA, which is on my machine.
    Thanks in advance.

    Case-1::
    I tried according to your suggestion, still SAME error !! I have also configured new DB

    1) I have seen in XP service where all listener is running as well as OracleServiceORCL
    is also running.
    2) OracleOraHome90TNSListener also running with other listeners!
    Case-2::
    Dear I also delete listener and create new one and also configured Database Description

    From SQL plus i am getting the error,
    ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
    and from SQL Developer I am getting the error,
    IO Error:The network adapter could not establish the connection
    I am able to Telnet the host with proper port.Onsite peoples able to connect the database from any client using the same TNS names configration I am using.
    What are the possibilities to get this errors ?
    Please guide me on this.

    Hi
    Thanks for reply.I checked with onsite DBA for listener and it is up.If you have an on-site DBA why aren't you working with him to solve the problem?
    Since you assert that other client machines are able to connect to the database, the issue must be with your own setup. I strongly suspect your tnsnames has a bad entry. Please compare it to the same file from a working client. Also, show us the contents of your tnsnames.ora file.

    I dont have access of disable the firewall in my clent mechine.I will get it done by network team and post you the status.

  • Error ORA-12560:TNS:protocol adapter error - on client

    dear frnds,
    I am try to install oracle 11g to my client iam getting error
    ORA-12560:TNS:protocol adapter error
    pls help me out
    thanx in advance

    Most likely reason for TNS Protocol adapter error is....you must have older client FIRST in your path.
    You 11g binaries are not kicking in, cuz...you must have 10g or similar/older binaries first in your PATH ( in windows )
    In windoz...in cmd window...
    set ORACLE_SID=xxxx
    set ORACLE_HOME= to your 11g home
    cd %ORACLE_HOME%\bin OR set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
    Then your sqlplus etc..
    This time you should not be getting the protocol error.
    Let us know whether this solved your problem

  • ERROR:ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

    I am using Win XP Pro. in my PC. I just installed Oracle 9i. When I put in my
    user-name and password to run SQL+ 9.0.1 it gives me the following error
    message : ERROR:ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error.
    I am new to Oracle. Please give me the steps how to fix this error to be
    able to run SQL+.
    Many thanks

    When starting server manager the following error is generated:
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error occurred
    Cause:
    Oracle classify this as a 'generic protocol adapter error'. In my experience it indicates that Oracle client does not know what instance to connect to or what TNS alias to use.
    Possible Remedies:
    * If running on the server (or workstation) that is running the database (i.e. if the database is local to the machine) then try explicitly setting 'ORACLE_SID'. e.g.
    set ORACLE_SID=<sid>
    and then try again. If this works then consider whether to make the change permanent by specifying it as a system variable.
    FOR RUN THIS SID PLEASE REFER IT
    Go to command prompt
    C:\Document and settings\ORANGE> cd\
    C:\> set oracle_sid=<DB name>
    e.g C:\> set oracle_sid=<rajesh> {press enter}
    C:\> sqlplus /nolog {press enter}
    sql:\>connect sys/sys as sysdba {press enter} it cant ask for password directly connected
    or
    sql:\>connect sys as sysdba {press enter}
    password : sys {press enter}
    sql:\> connected
    or
    sql:\> connect scott {press enter}
    Enter password :tiger {press enter}
    sql:\> connected
    or
    sql:\> connect system {press enter}
    Enter password :manager {press enter}

  • TNS listener error "ORA-12514: TNS:listener..."

    Hi all,
    I have a problem with my listener on Oracle 11.2.0.2.
    I am more of a developer than a DBA, and I do not have a DBA to consult, so I hope you can address me, please.
    I have 2 DB instances running on the same machine ORCL and ORCL2 on port 1521, both using the same listener "LISTENER" as well on port 1521.
    In my TNSnames I had to add yesterday as well a new entry to a DB (ORCL3) hosted on a different machine.
    Since then, I can connect to ORCL and ORCL3 without problem via sqlplus, but I get the below error when I connect to ORCL2:
    ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
    descriptor
    I think the answer is to have to separate listeners for ORCL and ORCL2, but I have had several failed attempts.
    Can you please advise on what I need to do? I have looked at various sites, but if you are not too experienced with listeners, they are not really very clear.
    Thanks
