I am getting an linker error LNK2001 : unresolved symbol _main while compiling Microsoft c code

I am writng a simple application in C language for communicating with GPIB. when I compile the c file I am getting a linker error
LIBC.lib(ctr0.obj): LNK2001 error: unresolved sysmbol _main
I compile the application in the dos window using the command
cl gpibApplication.c gpib-32.obj.
Could anyone tell me how to remove this error

Hello-
It sounds like the main function is missing from the gpibApplication.c file. Be sure that the following function is somewhere in the code:
int main (int argc, char *argv[])
Also, note that this function is case sensitive, so be sure main is not capitalized.

  • I'm getting this "error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _niFgen_SendSoftwareTrigger@4" when I try to make any CNiFgen object.

    Hi, I have a working project that has a few classes using the NI5411 APIs and now I want to use CNiFgen classes. After adding Core Components(Advanced Analysis, Common) and NI Device Instrument Drivers(NiFgen) from the Measurement Studio Components Wizard. Even when I try to make an object of CNiFgen(CNiFgen cnf I get the following error:
    --------------------Configuration: puzzle - Win32 Debug--------------------
    Linking...
    NiFgenInterfaceD.lib(NiFgenImpl.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _niFgen_SendSoftwareTrigger@4
    Output/puzzle.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals
    Error executing link.exe.
    puzzle.exe
    - 2 error(s), 0 warning(s)
    My APIs version is working fine and so are these CNiFgen classes(I have tried then for a dummy project). But, things start getting nasty when I try to integrate them.
    Regards,
    Vaibhav.

    It looks like you have a typical linking error in VC++. Have you made sure that all of the necessary .lib files are properly linked to?
    Also, are you passing any data between your custom classes and the niFGEN classes? These will take different data types unless you have already type cast all of them to work properly together. If they don't share variables, you should be okay.

  • Linking errors (LNK2001) for NIDAQ functions such as _NIDAQErrorHandler@12

    I am getting linking errors (LNK2001) when I try to build any of the C++ EXAMPLES that came with my NI PCI6052E (for instance AOonePoint.C). I think I've included all the necessary libs in my project but I can't get past the linker (I'm using MS VC++ 6.0) and the actual errors read something like:
    Linking...
    AOonePoint.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _NIDAQErrorHandler@12
    AOonePoint.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _AO_VWrite@16
    AOonePoint.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _NIDAQWaitForKey@8
    Debug/AOonePoint.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 3 unresolved externals
    Error executing link.exe.
    thanks for your help!

    You will need to add two library files to your project. To do this, select 'Project' from VC++ menu bar, then 'Add to Project' >> Files. Then follow this path to the files.
    /Program Files/National Instruments/NI-DAQ/Lib
    You will have to change 'Files of Type' to 'All Files.'
    The two files to add are nidaq32.lib and nidex32.lib.

  • Link Error:LNK2001

    HI
    What is the reason for getting this error shown below
    library_name(Object file):error LNK2001:unresilved external symbol_library_function_name
    Thanks In advance

    Hi Prabin C A,
    >>library_name(Object file):error LNK2001:unresilved external symbol_library_function_name.
    There are several possible reasons generating this error message.
    For example, the VS project properties settings issue or the symbol is spelled incorrectly or you are using mixed versions of the libraries, some from one version of the product, others from another version or others.

  • Getting an strange error in "PluginPrefix.pch" while compiling a plugin code with InDesign CS4 SDK.

    Hi everybody,
    Currently trying to compile/build the existing Plugin code (C++) with InDesign CS4 SDK on my Mac OS X 10.5 machine but getting following strange errors.
      /Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK/source/precomp/gcc/PluginPrefix.pch:26:27: error: MemoryStatics.h: No such file or directory
      /Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK/source/precomp/gcc/PluginPrefix.pch:39:30: error: PluginBuildFlags.h: No such file or directory
      /Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK/source/precomp/gcc/PluginPrefix.pch:40:28: error: AnsiBasedTypes.h: No such file or directory
      /Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK/source/precomp/gcc/PluginPrefix.pch:41:26: error: ShukHeaders.cp: No such file or directory
    Though above mentioned files are present at the following directory
    /Volumes/../../../Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK/source/precomp/common/
    Note : However initially I did not find “MemoryStatics.h” and “AnsiBasedTypes.h” files in the installed SDK directory. I have downloaded them from the net and copied those into the above mentioned directory.
    I am not much familiar with Mac OS environment and compiling/building C++ code with Xcode. Can anyone help me to resolve this issue (might be very trivial and related to Xcode project configuration) ?

    Thanks for the quick response,
    Yes, current build settings include path shortcuts as mentioned below and it also contains “$(CS_SDK_PATH)/source/public/includes” path in HEADER_SEARCH_PATHS settings.  But still I am getting the same error: MemoryStatics.h: No such file or directory
    CS_SDK_PATH= /Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK
    CS_SDK_PRJ_PATH=/Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/InBetweenDev/Projects/InBetweenCS/IBClientPluginCS3/prjCS4/mac
    Just for clarification : my Plugin code /project files are not inside the InDesign SDK (build/mac/prj). All the plugin project is outside of the InDesign SDK directory. Thus above mentioned CS_SDK_PATH and CS_SDK_PRJ_PATH are completely different.
    Is it expected that the plugin code/project files should be inside the InDesign SDK/build/mac/prj  directory only ? or is it okay if we put it in the completely another directory structure and modify the  SDK_PRJ_PATH accordingly (as in my case) ?
    Please let me know if you want me to elaborate the situation further.

    Apparently you are trying to mix 32-bit code and 64-bit code. You must ensure that the 32-bit or 64-bit option is used consistently on every command, compiling and linking. The form of the option can depend on the version of the C compiler you are using, and whether you are on an x86 or sparc system. Consult the Pro*C and C compiler documentation.

  • Getting a link error only in Firefox, not Chrome and not IE

    I'm not the best at coding and I can't figure out why this link works in Chrome, and works in IE, but not Firefox, when you click on the coupon it gets an error. Any idea why??
    [http://www.myvalleydining.com/index.php?page=descriptions&id=70 http://www.myvalleydining.com/index.php?page=descriptions&id=70]

    You forgot a closing ">" in that DIV:
    <pre><nowiki><div class='restIcon'
    <a href='public/coupon-template.php?id=70&code=' onclick='OpenPopup(this.href); return false'>
    <img src='../images/coupon.gif' width='50' height='50' border='0'/>
    <label>Coupon</label>
    </a>
    </div>
    </nowiki></pre>
    Firefox seems to make this of it if I inspect that element via the right-click context menu.
    <pre><nowiki><div onclick="OpenPopup(this.href); return false" href="public/coupon-template.php?id=70&amp;code=" <a="" class="restIcon"><img width="50" height="50" border="0" src="../images/coupon.gif"/><label>Coupon</label>
    </div>
    </nowiki></pre>

  • They get 'Missing Links' error messages ... Why?

    I created a piece of Artwork (probably best done in Indesign, but Illy is my preferred), and sent it to the publisher.
    I placed images in the document.  I 'Saved As' and choose PDF, and made sure I had the Embedded images option ticked.
    They are using CS4 and I'm using CS so its not that I'm going backwards (then I'd use export).
    So, my question is, why are they getting this error message (I realise it is because they are missing the links, and don't have the images)?  Other than sending them all the images/logos is there another solution?
    My specs: Windows XP Pro, Illy CS.
    Thanks

    Thanks tman69 & Wade,
    I've managed to speak to the printing company and sorted it all out.  It was a combination of her trying to view the letter outlines on the raster images as the file has both raster images and vector images in it.  So, she could see the outline of the vector ones but not the others.
    Wade, now that I've read your post I think I mis understood you.  I had created another version when saving it.  I have no issues with disk size so didn't even take that into account (I should read more closely).  I have sent them both the original file, and the new saved as file.
    Fortunately this is now fixed.
    Thanks

  • Solaris link error - cout undefined symbol

    I am using the Forte 6 C++ compiler, but instead of using the built-in roguewave STL library I am using STLPort 4.5.1 for performance reasons. If I compile my application using the roguewave STL it links ok, but when I use the STLPort I received an undefined symbol for cout.
    Ideas how I can get around this?
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Are you sure you posted the entire output of the linker? It doesn't look like you have.
    The error you posted is:
    Undefined first referenced
    symbol in file
    ISymbolTable::__
    It then goes on to state that the file that needs this symbol (the file that first references this missing symbol) is /lib/cxx//libMyBusinessObjects.so.
    Now, what I don't get is the symbol itself. what is ISymbolTable::__ ? That's just plain whacky.
    Is libMyBusinessObjects.so your library?
    Anyhow, to fix these types of errors, it is typically an issue of adding another lib or .o to you link list in the Makefile. But, first, you have to make sense of the symbol that is "missing".
    If you provide more data, it might help in resolving this...

    Where did you get this iPad from? Sounds like it's running a beta version of iOS (presently iOS 8). Connect it to iTunes on a computer and restore it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
