I am try to download a CSV file and have it directly open in excel. It only opens in new page and not in excel. how do I get it to do that.

In internet explorer I use to be able to click on a download link to have a csv file open in excel. I have never been able to open this download file before with Firefox. It turns out that I can no longer do it with Explorer either. I have sent this same question to them for help as I require this information. It is being downloaded from a secure site and is used for registration information.
I need help as soon as possible.

The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

Firefox 3.6 came out in 2010. It is VERY old in terms of software and especially web browsers. Firefox is currently on version 36.0.4 and version 37 comes out next week. You should ALWAYS be running the latest version of a web browser. Don't believe me? If you are using 3.6, you are vulnerable to most of the bugs at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox/, and your browser can't use all the new features http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Firefox#Version_4.0 from version 4 down (there are lots). You are stuck in technology 5 years old and can't use all the modern awesomeness.
Honestly, if your website building tool only supports Firefox 3.6, you should consider finding a new tool. There are lots of modern web technologies (like HTML5, CSS3, etc.) that that tool is probably forcing you to miss out on.
If you really need to use that tool, can't upgrade, and firefox 3.6 is the only version that works (I'd try using it with modern Firefox, it might work) then use the portable version of Firefox 3.6 and use regular Firefox for all your regular surfing. How do I get iTunes to recognize that I have already downloaded a song?

I have a song I have purchased and downloaded. When looking at the "Songs" view the song is listed twice. One with a cload download button next to it even though I already have it downloaded. I deleted the existing file and it was still listed twice, this time with a cload button next to both listings. How do I get iTunes to recognize that I have purchased it only once?

I've tried all of that and iTunes still won't sync my phone. I've deauthroized my computer than reauthorized it. I've deauthorized all computers then reauthorized my computer and every time I go to sync, iTunes keeps telling me my computer isn't authorized.

Letting users download a CSV file

I need to add a link to some html code generated by a servlet that will allow users to download a csv file. The problem is that the only other link I have seen function like that was in a static html page and it simply used a href tag to identify the csv file and the user was automatically asked whether to open it or save it to their PC. When I use such a link in the servlet, the servlet displays the contents of the file in a browser window instead of giving the user the option to save it to their PC. Can someone please help me?

Are you generating the CSV file with a servlet? If so, try this:
response.setContentType("text/x-csv");
response.setHeader("Content-disposition", "inline;filename=MyOutputFile.csv");

does anyone know how to ensure that when downloading a csv file, it will be opened with excel only. The browser is downloading it as a text file and not excel. how can this be prevented.
please let me know if you have any ideas since i've been pondering over it for far too long and need help...

Yes, you need to set the content type to "application/vnd.ms-excel". Of course there is no guarantee that your clients will interpret that to mean "Open with Excel", or that they will even have Excel installed on their system, but there's not much you can do about that.

I had found a fix on my old macbook, but just got a new MBP and it's happening again.

Working from my defective memory, this happened to me, but stopped if I unchecked 'Open safe files after downloading' in Safari Preferences/General.
At least I think that's how I stopped it - it hasn't happened since!

Download to csv file

Hi,
Working with Download to csv file feature I realized that for one of my reports that contains an icon (with a link) in one of the columns, is not getting any value for this column in the csv file.
This behaviour is logical due to the fact that we have an image, not a string.
But, is there a way I can edit or force the Download to assign a string value for every icon I have in my report, so when I click in Download, the icon will be represented as a string in the new csv file?

i'd bet the easiest way to approach this would be to select both your icon and your "string value" columns out of the database and to then use column conditions to determine which columns should be rendered in which output format. so say you had a report that just showed images in one col and a description in the next. i'd write your report to select something like...
select '<img src="'||m.image_path||'">' my_image, m.image_name name, m.image_description
from my_image_table m
...and then i'd a put condition of type "PL/SQL Expression" like...
not htmldb_application.g_excel_format
...on your my_image column. i'd also put a "PL/SQL Expression" condition on your Name column like...
htmldb_application.g_excel_format
...we talked about this a bit in...

...but basically htmldb_application.g_excel_format is just a function that returns a boolean telling you whether or not the HTML DB engine is in the mode of show your page in csv format. anyhow, give it a shot and let us know if you need further assistance.

from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

It won't open or download!
If that doesn't help tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

    I had downloaded a CSV file from an ALV list which created by myself. the current layout of the CSV file is :
aaa;bbbbbbbbbb;cc;
                                                     for example . but what i want is :
aaa         ;bbbbbbbbbbb            ;cc     ;
it means these three fields are all with fixed length don't ommitting spaces when you preview the CSV file. how should i do this ?

I do not use lightroom and I have a subscription so I can open all supported RAW formats. You will need DNG file for Your Camera's NEF files for use in Photoshop ACR version. You can open your NEF files in LR it seems so you could do all your raw conversion with Lightroom and save out Tiff files for processing in Photoshop. I do use lightroom for I do not need its library. Lightroom does not support layered files so lightroom is of no value to me. ACR UI is all I need having a second interface to Adobe Raw Conversion Engine would more annoyance than value to me.

Firefox won't download files-Opens new page and just stops whenclicking on download icon or address.

Suddenly, Firefox won't download a file from a clickable icon or web address. This seemed to occur after installing HideMyAss. When I click on a download address, or an icon, the page changes, (as opposed to just starting the download) attempts to load (status bar goes to halfway) and then nothing, it just sits there. If I try to download a torrent file, the same thing occurs, although I can download it using option+click. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Doug

Reinstalled FF with new profile to check and it still performed the same problem. Couldn't download files from links sent to me through email program that I use either.
Eventually, after a quick 5 hour reinstall, FF is now working.
Until I figure otherwise, I'd take a pass on Hide My Ass.

It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.
