  • Can only open firefox as admin, otherwise get error to say a security component could not be initilaised. Have tried deleted cert8 file but it is not recreated and still will not open

Had problems with os and now can not open firefox unless I run as admin. Error appears - Could not initialise the application's security component. The most probable cause is problems with files in your browser's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard drive is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the browser and fix the problem. If you continue to use this browser session, you might see incorrect browser behaviour when accessing security features.
I have tried deleting the cert8 db file but it is not recreated when I start firefox again. HD has lots of room. Can you suggest anything else to try please?
    thanks, mandi

If deleting or otherwise removing the cert8.db and secmod.db file doesn't help then try a new profile.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I am trying to delete a user on my start up page and do not know his password

You don't need to know the password. Log out of the account, then log in as an administrator and delete the account in the Users & Groups preference pane. You will need to click the lock icon and authenticate first.

  • I am trying to delete a user account but attempt locks up system prefs

I have been trying to delete a user account in 10.9.1 (Mavericks) on a 2009 Mac Pro. The problem is that System Prefs never completes the "archive account" and when check which processes are using up CPU time I find that writeprefs is pegged at 100% and has stayed at that level for seven hours plus. Of course the account is never removed and the only way of restarting the machine is to force quit system prefs after which the reboot works. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Do you really need to archive the user folder?
linc, that would be desirable but not absolutely essential.  And, thank you for your swift response!

  • HT5621 I changed my Apple ID, but it will not let me change it on my phone. How do I change it on my phone. I alreadt tried to delete the account but to do that I need to put in my password, but it wont work because its the wrong email.

I am trying to change my Apple ID under icloud on my phone, but it will not let me do it, I have already tried to delete the account, but I cannot do that becuase it wants me to put in a password that I do not have. What can I d0? I am also going next week to pick up my new phone so I need to fix it soon.

    Hello there, hcheslynn.
The following Knowledge Base article provides a great resource for what to do next after changing your Apple ID:
Apple ID: What to do after you change your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5796
    Particularly for your case:
    iCloud
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings > iCloud.
If you signed out before changing your Apple ID, enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download to your device.
If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account. Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked to confirm that you want to delete data from your device. To confirm, tap Delete. (If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, you'll be asked to enter the password for your previous Apple ID. Enter the password, then tap Turn Off.) The data will be deleted from your device, but not from iCloud.
Enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download again to your device.
If you still get prompted for your old Apple ID's password, the following article provides some additional troubleshooting steps:
iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • I am trying to delete a podcat but don't see the option is mine and I...

I am trying to delete a podcat but don't see the option mentioned in the article.
"is mine and I would like it removed from the Music Store". I see "remove a podcast" but that is all. My problem is that I published my first podcast from iWeb and would like to replace it with another one. I published a new one from iWeb but the information displayed in iTunes is for the old one. If I subscribe to the "old" one I actually do get the new one. I may only need to edit my RSS file but how do I do this from iWeb? I hope you can help as I have been going around in circles trying to correct this problem

  • Deleted a user but did not save any space

I used migration assistant some time ago and accidentally created a second user in the process. It took me several months to transfer all my files from the secondary user to the admin user (approximately 175 gigs worth) and I finally finished today.
I then deleted the secondary user (picked the bottom option), but did not see any decrease in size even though I selected the option to delete the users files.
I hunted around and found an old user profile but when I selected info on the file, I noticed that it was very small.
I am not sure where these files are hidden, but I definitely want to delete them permanently.
Any suggestions on how to clear this up would be greatly appreciated.

When you delete a user account you have four options. The last one is to remove it completely. The other three allow you to retain it or archive it. The last option is not the default. So the account is still in your /Users/ folder, probably in a folder named Deleted Users. Drag to the Trash then empty.

  • I am trying to delete some aps, but the delete "X" does not come up when the ap is pressed.  Anyone know how I can fix?.

Hi, I am trying to delete some aps, but the delete "x" does not come up when the ap is pressed.  Anyone know how to fix.  Also, my ipod is turning off on its own and won't power back on unless I plug it in although it is fully charged.

    For the apps:
    - You can't delete the apps that came with the iPod
    - Go to Settings>General>Restrictions and see if there is the Restrictions set that prevents deleting apps

If she can't remember the ID/password, she will need to go to https://iforgot.apple.com to recover it/reset the password or she will have to call Apple and speak to someone in account security.
