I spent 2 months in china with my old iphone 3gs. Both China Unicomm and China Mobile were accessible through my US phone. (for you other users, yes my phone bill was sky high, but it's a small price to pay when you get instant access to your wife while you are gone... and to be able to use the google translate app). I had a GSM phone (obviously) and had the ability to choose what carrier I wanted my phone to connect to (the same thing was available when I was in italy as well).
it was under
general-> network> then there was a new field (that does not normally show up when in the US) that listed the available networks to connect to. my phone always attempted china unicomm first, and switched to china mobile only when unicomm was unavailible.
but if wjosten is correct (and i imagine he is), cdma phones may not be able to choose what network to connect to.

There is a way to do this.
But it works or not, I have no idea.
Enable "Develop menu".
Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click the Develop menu and select "User Agent"
There are choices. Do not forget to make Safari default again afterwards.

App store not showing up in software update.. Any work around for this?

When I run software update it runs and then says that all software is up to date. I don't have an option to install the app store.. Is there any other way to install it?

I totally understand the confusion. That's how I ended up here on the discussion. I am running 10.6.5, so according to Apple's instructions below, this should have worked. Apparently, they need to correct their instructions. Here's what the App Store page says about installing it:
The Mac App Store is available as a free software update for Mac computers running Mac OS X v10.6 or later. If you have an earlier version of Mac OS X, you will need to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
1. Update your software.
Click the Apple icon, then choose Software Update. A dialog will appear on your desktop. Click the Install button in the dialog to begin the installation. You will be instructed to restart your Mac to complete the process.

Nic, for me the iTunes window looks like this, when I connect my iPad 3:
I select the iPad in the "devices" section of the Sidebar (use: "View > Show Sidebar" if the sidebar is hidden).
Click the "Apps" tab in the "Devices" pane.
Scroll all the way down in the Devices pane to "File Sharing" "Apps" section.
Then do I click "GarageBand" to select the documents in the right panel.
Which part is different for you? Perhaps you could post a screenshot?

Any work-around for non-Lion-supported HP LaserJet printer?

I just upgraded to Lion, and while love many of the features (the new mail app is great), I just discovered that my 6-month-old HP LaserJet CP1525nw printer apparently isn't compatible with Lion. Does anyone have any work-arounds for generic drivers that might resolve this. As inexpensive as Lion is, I'd hate to have to buy a new printer just so I can take advantage of Lion funcationality and full iCloud capabilities. Thanks.

In preparing to install the drivers for the CP1510 series, I decided to download and reinstall the package for the CP1520 series. First, I also installed the firmware update, which had been released since I purchased my printer. Then I reinstalled the drivers using System Preferences, etc.
Lo and behold, the printer now works. For some reason, after the upgrade to Lion, the drivers for my CP1525nw stopped working, even though all of my other printers (1610, 2510, 2610, 2605dn) performed just fine without any jiggering after the Lion upgrade.
Curiously, my first attempt to download the software package for the CP1525nw wouldn't download, launching a dialog that says the driver isn't supported for this operating system. The HP website does not include the CP1525nw in the list of supported LaserJets, but elsewhere paradoxically claims all printers supported for Snow Leopard should also run on Lion, which appears to be true for the CP1525nw.
Go figure. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. It got me headed in the right direction.

Encounted a very major bug today that I need to figure out how to get around asap as it's completely preventing me from doing any work.
Whenever I edit any text - be it editing an existing text layer, or with a new one, whatever text is there just randomly and without warning disappears. Doesn't matter wether I'm changing the color, font, font size or any other type settings. Sometimes I just move the mouse while in editing mode and the text just vanishes.
Made a video of the bug in action. Virtual keyboard on screen so you can see that I'm not hitting any keys to make the text disappears. Today is the first day I noticed this issue and I have absolutely no idea what is causing it but it happens 99.9% of the time that I try editing any text. Latest version of Photoshop, CC, OS X etc.

The bug is in the dictation code in MacOS. We are not ignoring the problem - but we cannot fix bugs in Apple's OS code.

Does anyone know of a work around for this problem? : iphone 5 will not work on Chryslers uconnect. I found out that they are working on it but have no ETA.   However, they will not help you if your vehicle is older thatn 2008.

Do not get an iphone 5 if you want to use it with a Chrysler product. The Chrysler Uconnect system might pair with your phone but the uconnect system will usually abend and become unusable after a few telephone conversations. I have been to the dealer twice. They have reset the uconnect system twice and I find it works for about 2 to 3 phone calls then it abends and uconnect becomes useless. They had me call Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. I was told that the iphone five is not compatable at this time with any chrysler uconnect phone through the dash system, even the new vehicles. He had me get on this web site: www.uconnectphone.com as a place to monitor as when it would be compatable. They told me that Samsung seems to be working harder to make it compatible than apple is and they had no idea when it would begin to work. In effect Chrysler was telling me dump the iphone and get a Samsung if you want it to work in a Chrysler. Also, the site would only give you information for Chrysler that were 2008 or newer, they gave the following number to call if your vehicle was older.    I called that number and they told me that Chrysler and Uconnect had no plans at all to make the iphone 5 work, in the future, on any Chrysler older than 2008. So.......If you have a Chrysler or Dodge that is older than 2008 you will NEVER be able to use an iphone5 on the uconnect through the dash system.   Do not buy an iphone if you have an older vehicle. It will never be supported for the $1,000 you paid for this uconnect system on your car. My car is a 2005 Town and Country. I asked both Chrysler and uconnect if their was some sort of work around so I could use my phone. They both told me their was not and that they had no plans to resolve this situation for my vehicle. This means that I need to either get rid of my $42,000 vehicle with low milage or get rid of my Iphone 5. Niether are really good options.
I was also givne the following places to send formal complaints, even though I was told that neither Chrysler, Dodge or Apple were going to do anything to correct my problem:

This response is a little late as I just read about your problem. I have a 2012 Dodge Charger and a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country and both worked flawlessly with the iPhone 5s my wife and I had. However, we just upgraded to the iPhone 6 and Uconnect will receive calls but you cannot answer them. You can callout successfully, however. the annoyance being the inability to answer incoming calls in the HandsFree mode.

Any work around for importing NEFs modified from NX2 or LR?

I just got Aperture. Here is workflow I have a question for. I make changes in NX2 of the original NEF. I attempt to import the modified NEF into Aperture and Aperture will not even show a thumbnail of it.
1st, why doesn't Aperture at least import the original NEF, preferably the last modified NEF, either from NX2 or LR? As a note, Photo Mechanic will show the modified NEF, and LR will only show the original NEF.
2nd, if I convert it to a TIFF from NX2, which Aperture then can import, what do I loose from the NEF, if anything should I want to again modify at a later time (capturing in 14 bit)?
Any suggestions?

You need to do a bit of homework on the nature of RAW and, to a lesser degree, the differences between Aperture and Lightroom and a pixel editor like Photoshop.
-- A RAW file is not an image. It is literally the raw output of the sensor. It cannot be edited, only read by a RAW converter, or, if you prefer, developer. At this time, there is no program that can actually edit RAW data.
-- Capture NX reads your raw NEF. If you make "edits" they are merely changes to the development processing; the original raw data are never changed. Capture NX can, indeed write these changes back to the NEF, but they are stored in a separate part of the file, that only CNX can read.
-- AP and LR have their own RAW development routines (LR uses Adobe Camera RAW). They read the RAW and store their "edits" in separate files, stored in their databases. These files are recombined, on the fly, everytime you view a file.
-- Thus AP cannot read "edits" performed in LR (or CNX) and vice versa.
-- The only workaround is to open a RAW in the program of your choice, make the "edits" ("adjustments" in AP speak) that you want, and then save a copy as a TIFF, JPEG, or similar. Thus you could open your file in CNX and save as a TIFF that you send to AP.

Since FF 10, I am unable to download documents if there is a comma in the file name. Is there a work around for this?

I use Firefox for work, and one of the intranet pages I use has Word and Excel documents with commas in the file name. When I click on the link to download the file, the download pane flashes open, then closes and the document I am trying to download does nothing.

Try a right-click on the link to the file and use Save Link As... and rename that file to get rid of the comma - like make it a blank space or change the comma to a hyphen.

BUT, what happens if my client creates a new page from his BC backend using a template i made for that purpose while making the site in Muse (a page with the "{tag_pagecontent}" Tag)
can it show in the menu?.

I have music in iTunes that was purchased with an account that no longer exists. I'm transferring music to a new computer so the new iTunes is asking me to sign in to the old account to authorize the old music. Is there a work-around for this?

Just to clarify: I purchased some of my older music in iTunes with an account that got deleted. I cannot recover or use this old account. I transferred music from my old iTunes to a new computer and that new iTunes on the new computer is asking me to sign into the old account to authorize the music. So, is there another way to transfer this music to my new iTunes? I'm using a USB thumb drive to transfer the music. Also, music that was purchased with my current account tranfers just fine.

Work around for iSync and k800i calendars

Hi all,
I am using OS X 10.4.9 and iSync 2.4. On my Mac, I have to use Entourage to be able to use the email server here, so I sync my Entourage calendar with iCal by having 1 calendar in iCal called Entourage.
I have just bought a new SE k800i and when I first tried to sync, the contacts worked fine, however no calendars went across. I made sure the right calendar, in fact the only calendar, was selected in the iSync preferences but no joy.
I have no events that repeat further than June,so I'm not sure if that's the issue. Does anyone know of any work arounds for this?
Also, what's the best way to Sync, would it be via bluetooth or can I do it via USB?

I don't think slideshows (or the iPhoto library itself) is backwards compatible with earlier versions of iPhoto, but I'm not sure. If that's a concern, exporting the slideshow as a QuickTime movie might be the best option, but that's getting off the subject of the thread, so if you have further questions about that, you might want to take it up in the iPhoto forum where people more familiar with iPhoto will be able to help.
