I am willing to buy a Macbook pro 13 retina notebook, i cant figure out how much battery it has sometime it says that ots up to 7 hours and 9 hours. Which one is it?

Is it 7 or 9 hours of battery life?

Please also keep in mind it does not necessarily mean you will get 9 hours of battery life from typical usage.
You should be getting atleast 5-6 if you are not watching videos and 2-3 if you are watching videos/gaming.
You will only get 9 hours if you are very conservative with your battery which means having only 1 or 2 apps running and not doing any resource intensive tasks.

If the apps that are on your son's iPad were purchased under his Dad's Apple ID, then signing your Apple ID onto the iPad will not help you with updating those apps.
Also, if the iPad was sync'd with his Dad's iTunes library, then hooking it up to your computer/iTunes library, will require you to reset the iPad, and everything that was loaded under the other Library and Apple ID will be wiped out.
Can you provide a little more info about what was set up under which Apple ID and what iTunes library the iPad was sync'd with?

Start up iTunes, and select Music, then click Songs.
Down at the bottom of the iTunes window, it will tell you how much space your library occupies.
