You’ll know that an email is not from PayPal when:  The email uses a generic greeting like ‘Dear user’ or ‘Hello, PayPal member.’ We'll always address you by your first and last name or the business name on your PayPal account. The email requests financial and other personal information. A real email from us will never ask for your bank account number, debit or credit card number etc. Also we'll never ask for your full name, your account password, or the answers to your PayPal security questions in an email. The email asks you to provide the tracking number of a dispatched item, before you've received the payment into your PayPal accountThe email includes a software update to install on your computer.                          ********************************************* I give up my time to help you so a thank you or kudos would be cool.

  • I have been stung by a WhatsApp scam on my email account and changed my password.  All mail sent is held in the outbox with actually sending. gmail account in Google works  OK. How to restore Mac mail?

I have a one year old MacBook Pro, using Yosemite OS. In my Mac mail account I use gmail. I have recently been stung by an e- mail scam using WhatsApp. When I changed my password I was able to move on with mail on my phone and laptop. I now find that all the mails I sent yesterday have got stuck in my Outbox and have not actually been sent. i have since opened up my gmail account via Google and have pasted i the messages and successfully sent from there.
How can I now restore my Mac Mail on the laptop to send my mail?
I would interested to hear views.

    Hello Nicholas,
It sounds like you are suddenly unable to send email from the Mail app but can log into your webmail and send the emails without issue. I recommend you use the following article, to help figure out what the issue is, named:

  • Is iphone 5 giveaway a scam?

Recently I recieved a notification via facebook.  The sight wants me to enter my email and home address to recieve a free iphone 5.  Cany anyone tell me if this is in fact a legitimate deal or just a phishing scheme to find valid email addresses and attatch them to valid mailing addresses?  Here is the link to the facebook page.
    https://www.facebook.com/pages/Innovative-iPhone-5-Giveaway/138457179574376?noti f_t=fbpage_fan_invite

I know the last comment has been posted in March but here's a little tip for everyone:
If a site is asking you to enter your e-mail or phone number or even home adress, you can assume it's scam. No legit person or institution giving away something would ask directly for that. Adresses are more likely to be asked for if you are the chosen winner.
Also if you are asked to do a survey, you can also assume it's scam. If you are very unlucky, you can easily tap into subscription traps. Happened to a friend of mine and without him knowing, about $50 were added to his phone bill.

  • Multiple email accounts and mail check frequency

If I understand correctly, I can have multiple email accounts on the iPhone, one for work, one personal for example. Is it possible to have distinct update settings, or to easily take one offline? Say I don't want my work email retrieved during the weekend. We're all set to do the family thing with iPhones, but this question came up. With my Treo I frequently turn only one or the other of the accounts on, depending on what I'm doing.
How distinct are the accounts? I assume the mail is in separate accounts as on the desktop?
    Thanks

    Thanks. That's good news.
In Mail app I have one account, with two different "from" addresses set. I select the proper address depending if I'm writing family or a mailing list. Is that same feature available as it is on the desktop?

  • Changing Mail Server Settings for Other IMAP

    Hello,
I'm an Admin for a treatment center and one of our psychiatrists has a BB Tour. He asked me the other day if I could set up his email account on our exchange server for him on his phone. Going through the mail setup wizard I selected "Other" account and set it up for IMAP and then it asked me for his email address and password. It took the domain name and then assumed the mail server names were as such. Now in a perfect world, this wouldnt be an issue. I recently took over for a complete moron and this guy has our MX records pointing to a 3rd party company where all of our outside emails go and then the Outlook clients are set up to pop this box in addition to the Exchange setup (I know its totally lame). What Ive done for everyone else is just setup a IMAP account using the server IP address and mail works fine for them. I cannot for the life of me find where I can actually edit the mail server names for the IMAP account I create on his BB Tour. Is this a limitation the phone? Or am I not looking in the right place. Thanks!
    Solved!

Yup -- refer back to my first reply where I said to use the carrier BIS website...while I didn't say it quite so clearly, I did not say to use the on-device email setup wizards.
The device interface to BIS (aka email setup wizards) and the carrier website interface to BIS have subtle differences. For what you need to do, you need to use the carrier website from a PC/browser. Here is the link:
    https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw
If you have not yet created BIS credentials, you will need to. I find it easier to first create those on the device interface and then use them in the web interface. Afterwards, you will have to use the credentials in the device interface, but there is a "remember me" box so you will only have to enter them once.
Personally, I rarely use the device interface...a full keyboard, mouse, and monitor are so much simpler for doing things than a tiny BB screen/keyboard. But that's just me.
    Good luck!

  • Mail not working on brand new iMac (early 2009, 24")

I just got a new iMac 2.66 intel Core 2 Duo 24". I did a firewire transfer setup from my old iMac G5. I have been unable to properly open the Mail application. I click on it and it just sits there. I can see the Mail toolbar on the top of the screen, but no Mail viewer window opens. I can open my preferences and create new mail windows, but there is no way to actually check my messages. In preferences, my accounts seem to be set up properly, but nothing works.
Any ideas how to fix this?

I'm assuming while MAIL is in the toolbar, you've gone to the Window item and clicked on Message Viewer, right?

  • Java Mail: send a SINGLE email to a distribution list

Is it possible to send a single email to a distribution list using Java Mail?
Please help with some code samples.
Right now, our mail program uses java mail api to send one email/person in the distribution list and runs in a for loop. Is it possible to have the distribution list in the to field and just send one single email to all persons in the list?
    Thanks,
    Jayashree.

Yes, of course, assuming your mail server supports
distribution lists. Most mail servers do, but exactly
how you create and administer a mailing list varies
    from server to server.
Once you've created the mailing list on the server,
just use the name of the list in the To field of the
    message.

  • Mails sent on my iPhone isn't shown in the sent folder

Whenever I send an email it does not show up in the sent folder on my iPhone or on my Mac when I sync. Why could this be?
It works just fine, I recieve mails and I'm able to reply and all that. I just can't see them in the sent folder which is annoying.
    Hope you can help me

I think figured it out. The original problem was that Mail.app was not using Gmail's smtp server. In the account preferences in Mail I have checked the box which says: 'Only use this server' under the pop-up list which has Gmail's smtp server selected. But examining the full headers of emails sent via supposedly different smtp servers (via different email addresses with all have that 'Only use this server' checked) and emails sent via Gmail's web interface gave me the strong indication that Mail.app is not using Google's smtp server.
Lo and behold, once I switched between my corporate network and a cellular-modem based one which caused Mail to fail to reach the smtp server (inside my corporate network only my corporate smtp server works and outside every smtp server except the corporate one works) and therefore brought up a dialogue which allowed me to choose the smtp server and I selected Gmail's smtp server, my sent messages showed up in Gmail's sent folder.
Even better, after restoring my iPhone (syncing wasn't doing the trick), emails sent from my Gmail account on the iPhone show up in Gmail's sent folder (and Gmail's sent folder also shows up on the iPhone).
As usual, if you for your life's sake cannot figure something out, most likely something you consider a fact is actually not the true. I was assuming that Mail was using Gmail's smtp server, that is what I told Mail to do. But apparently, once Mail fails to reach an smtp server and you tell Mail to use another it continues to use this alternative server forever until it fails to reach this one and ask you again (and that is the only way to reset it). And more importantly this alternative smtp server gets carried over to the iPhone. Even more sneakily, if you check the smtp server setting on the iPhone it still reads the 'correct' one but it is using in fact another one (visible from the full headers of the received email).
Getting Mail to use the correct smtp servers is its own pain in the butt. And after the umpteenth restore with everything working now, I now unchecked the option to sync mail accounts (since I keep switching networks on my Mac, I'm sure to end up with the wrong smtp servers associated with my email accounts).

  • Mail/AOL Mail Saved Message Nightmare

I set my boss up to use AOL's imap server to send and receive email through osx's mail application. He dragged all of his important messages to the saved folder. What happened next was strange. Although the folder is on the mac itself, the messages uploaded to somewhere, leaving the folder empty. I went on his regular account and checked the saved messages box and it was empty. AOL has no idea where they went if they are not in the saved folder on their ACS. I checked the computer itself and could not locate any of the mails. Has anyone else ran into this problem?
    G4Laptop   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Assorted tidbits that may or may not be of use to those following this thread:
    1. As of August 5, I was still able to save whatever emails I wanted to select from any Mail mailbox to the AOL "Saved" mailbox with no errors or disappearance problems of any kind whatsoever.
    2. As of approximately one month ago, I could with Mail.app also move any email I wanted from the AOL IMAP inbox to the AOL "Spam" mailbox. This is what some official AOL help documents indicate is the equivalent to using the AOL client app "Report Spam" button, so I assume this is, or at least was previously, officially supported with IMAP access to AOL email as the approved way to report spam when not using AOL client or web mail access.
2.a. At some point in the last ten days or so, I noticed this 'report spam' equivalent was not working properly with Mail.app. I don't know the exact date this started happening since I don't often have to use the feature, but what I do know is that as of ~ July 28, I started getting error messages similar to the ones we now see for moving messages to "Saved." So far, the error messages are all that happens with this -- IOW, there is no disappearance problem, only a refusal to accept any email into the "Spam" server folder via Mail.app.
    3. In Mail.app, using the menu "Copy to..." option for attempts to move messages into the affected AOL-based folders works very much the same as with drag & drop, except the existing copy is never deleted from the source mailbox, so I suggest this is a better way to test for the problem than by risking any messages you might want to save.
3.a. Using the copy option may initially look like it succeeds, even when it doesn't. In my case, messages copied to "Saved" sometimes did appear there in Mail's view even after opening the "Saved" mailbox view, which I assume from Mail's Activity window does cause some small amount of syncing. However, within 10 seconds to about a minute, the newly copied message still disappears, which I assume is due to some server-side problem a 'full' sync shows.
    4. Until AOL sorts out all the details of its "new" incarnation, It is probably best not to count on saving anything to its servers, even with the web mail interface.

  • Resizing images in mail

Does anyone know how I can resize an image that I have dragged into a mail. I assumed that mail would offer me a drag resize of images but this doesn't seem to be available or is it?
    thanks

    Hi Bob
I seemed to have hit a nerve.
Agreed mail is not primarily a graphics application however as I am sure you are aware these days many applications do do jobs that they initially didn't. Your assertion would suggest that web browsers should not display images. After all the first web browsers as I am sure you will remember did not show images as images were not supported in html.
Why on earth should I have to open a separate application just to reduce the size of an image by around 35% when nearly all other mail applications quite rightly happily allow the user to resize images to whatever size you like.
Whats the equivalent of a pedant in technology?

  • Adding an EPS attachment freezes mail

I have been able to replicate this with different Illustrator EPS files. If I either drag and drop into the message or click add an attachment will cause the spinning beach ball to appear and then it will crash mail. I can drag a zipped archive or PDF's over with no problem.
I assume that mail is attempting to parse the eps for inline viewing.

Ashan, this functionality is not available at this time. I would recommend that you submit a enhancement request to customer care.
