I believe firefox has updated itself recently and when it did so I have had items removed from the desk top and all my picturs and documents have been moved, my profile settings are now gone as well. Help please
Hello, I think Firefox was automatically updated the night before last. I think this because I now am sent to the Firefox home page rather than where I was previously going. The issues that have come up are several. 1. Everything other than programs that were on my desktop have been removed. This isn't a big problem but has happened. 2. When I reboot my computer I get messages saying that the profile that has been used is either corrupted or there isn't enough security to open it or something like that. as a result it opens a generic profile and puts everything to default, when I close and reboot it has to do the same thing over again. 3. When I got this issue I tried to go to system restore and it had been turned off. I turned it back on and there were no past dates left to go back to. 4. all my photo files have been removed from the picture area, and all documents as well. I am able to search and locate them but now need to resave over 8000 items to the right places.
Can anyone help me with these issues? Is there some place or service that can remotely access my computer and fix whatever this is?
hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

Can I format and use a Hard Drive for my mac if removed from a Desk Top PC
Hi All,
I wondered if you can help with some advise. I have a mackbook and love it, will never go back to pc. But, I have a desk top pc with a fairly sizable Hard Drive in it. Even though I also have a WD external Hard Drive for my macbook back up, would I be able to use my old desk top hard drive if I found a case for it to make it an 2nd external hard drive?
Would I be able to format it for use with my mac? Or is it the bin for all the hardware?

MattIt'd work just fine. Apple uses pretty much the exact same parts every other computer maker does. The one exception is now they have a temp sensor cable connection built onto drives. Before they just stuck a little plastic clip on them at a specific spot. Other than that, it's no different from any other SATA drive you might buy at the likes of Best Buy or NewEgg. So as long as you partition the drive into a format readable by Mac OS X, there shouldn't be any problems.

i tried updating my ipod, and then it turned off, and then just said connect to itunes, and when i did, it said i had to restore it. so, i restored it, and it did nothing and still said connect to itunes. help?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I was trying to get the iOS 8.2 on my iPhone 5 but then it stopped and my phone is now on recovery mode I have pictures I need and they did not all fit on iCloud how can I use the phone again with ALL my pictures and videos without restoring it?
Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes? If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created. -
When using an iPad Air, is it possible to have my email removed from the server after downloading it? That's what I have been doing on my PowerBook and I would like to use my iPad as my primary email reader now.

I have just bought iphone 4 and when I make calls i don't hear anything from the headset excep when i plug in the headphones or turn on speaker ?
I have the same problem. It only started a few days ago. When I make or receive calls I have to use speaker otherwise I can't hear a thing. I'm also pretty sure that when I try to make calls without the speaker turned on, it doesn't actually dial, but the display says it has.
I've tried restoring from a backup with no luck. I'm reluctant to restore as a new phone as it's such a pain. -
Home Library folder was moved, all settings are now gone
Hello all-
I'm having a serious dilemma, and could really use some help. My MacBook Pro has been having some issues lately: running slowly, constantly kicking me out of Safari for no reason & all together just acting "wrong". About a month ago after reading several posts on this and other forums I decided to download OnyX to keep my system in good order. Upon first running OnyX it told me that my start-up volume needed to be repaired before it would proceed. Scared to do this for fear of screwing something up worse, I stupidly ignored it and went about my life. Then last week my favourite freeware app, xPad, all of a sudden stopped working. This reminded me about the volume issue and I checked the volume with Disk Utility and yes, there were problems. I was told to fix it by using the install discs. I had planned on doing it later that night (though I wasn't sure how) but I thought it would be beneficial to have a copy of my "Home (Shortname) folder" before doing so, in case I screwed something else up. This is where my real problems began.
I made a burn folder of my "Home folder" but realized that the "Library" folder was somehow not in the burn folder. I can't be certain what happened from here. I know I freaked out. I put the burn folder in the trash and restarted my computer. Probably a stupid thing to do, but I admittedly have never known what to do with a burn folder if you don't want it any longer. Well, upon restart it was obvious that I had mucked something up because I was shown the blue apple screen instead of my regular desktop picture, my Dock had several question marks and everything was back to the original settings instead of my brushed metal settings. Though most of my icons were still there and the applications and documents folders seemed unharmed. I began Safari and it too was all amuck. I then took the burn folder out of the trash along with anything I found in "Recovered Files" folders, of which there where several and put them on my desktop. It seems that my Home Library Folder was indeed in the trash along with my Documents, Macintosh HD, Public and several others, plus the Burn Folder with all of the aliases to those folders minus the Library folder (if that makes any sense) & they are now all on my desktop. So now after that long rambling preface, for which I apologize, my questions are as follows:
1) If I move the Library Folder on my Desktop back to the Home(Shortname) folder will everything be all right again? i.e., applications will run correctly and find their data and life will go on as planned? Or is there something else I need to do instead?
2) After fixing this dilemma what do I do with all of the folders that are now on my desktop? Particularly my Macintosh HD, Documents, Public and Burn Folder? It seems that trashing them was where the real problems began.
3) Is it then safe to automatically try to do the reinstall via Disk Utility?
I suppose we should just start with getting this Library matter settled first. Any suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated. It seems I know just enough about my Mac to mess it up. So I will gladly take all the advice anyone can give. I thank you all in advance for your help.
-AngelaThanks for the quick responses you guys, sorry it took me a while to get back. I did as you suggested bdkjones and all seems to be well. Unfortunately, xPad is still not working and I had hoped that the Startup Disk Repair would solve whatever issue that was, but alas it did not. I'll write the creator of that specific program to see if he has any suggestions, unless anyone else does in the meantime. But as for my prior predicament, though I haven't checked everything folder by folder yet, things seems fine so far. I truly appreciate the help. I pretty much knew what to do but just needed the encouragement of someone saying "Do this. You're on the right path. You won't ruin everything." And don't worry I'll be taking care of any future repairs as soon as I know about them from now on. It was really quite a scare for a while there.
Once again thanks and if you or anyone have any other morsels of info you feel like throwing my way about system maintenance or anything in the Mac realm you feel I should know please feel free. The last few days have made me realize I'm at that dangerous level in computer knowledge where I seem to know just enough to muck something up but not quite how to fix it.

Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now. -
Since I installed ios6 my City of Warfare game shuts down when I try to battle. I removed my original game and reinstalled a new game app which started a new game..and it still shuts down, help?
Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps. -

(no offense, Firefox is what I use on work computer)If it's slow on startup it would be extensions loading or LaunchDaemons starting up.
You should have a look in:
/Library/LaunchDaemons
/Library/Extensions
You can count out anything in your home folder and it shouldn't put anything in /System as that's reserved for Apple. -
When and how does the message context get removed from the message when we use pass thru send port

i have a doubt regarding message context.
Assume i have used XMLRecieve pipeline in the receive side to receive the message so that the message context is created. I.e properties are promoted/written.
now if we use pass thru transmit pipe line at send side, how and when does the message context get removed from the message?? Since pass thru does not have any stages/components, how does the message context removed and sent out a pure message to destination???
i mean what exactly happens here to remove the context??

yeah yeah, adapter does create some properties in context. You are right, i am aware of it. I just missed to explain it clearly. what i meant is addition of context properties will not happen if pass thru used. Thanks its clear.

You are right , the context already exists on the message while it leaves the receive port, and once it persists
to message box the context and message context gets stored in messages in relative tables.
Now as you said the components get the message from the last persistence, assume i have a send port(with passthru)
subscriber and a orchestration subsrciber for this message.
Orchestration gets the message with context right!!
if the send sendport(with passthru) also gets message along with context, then where is this context removed/demoted
while sending it out?. i guess as per SAAkhlaq said,
here sendport(with passthru) should get a pure message without context as passthru used.
or is it that ultimately send adapter removes the context completely?
or is it something like biztalk run time load the context from database into cache and both orchestration and send port gets pure message, and if needed they use context from cache???
sorry i may be troubling you, but i am confused. i hope i am not creating any nuisance with this

Saved word documents have dissappeared from the desk top after saving. Problem seems to occur when laptop is switched off and then re-started. they can't be found anywhere e.g tried spotlight, recent documents etc. Help. Joe

Not sure about the MS Word message, but it looks like you might need an upgrade. I'd check with Microsoft, or perhaps VersionTracker.com.
Ok, back to the original problem. Does the message have any other text (intelligible or not)?
Does it give you any options, especially "report"? If so, take it, then look via Console for a crash log.
What IS in the system log for the sleep/wake time? There should be a System Sleep, followed by a System Wake, and perhaps another line or two. Anything in that area might be helpful. -
My MacBook Pro screen keeps going black. This is happening more frequently. I have had it in to the Apple store several times for this and they can't find anything wrong other than it is locked up for a while. Since it is happening more and more, I am worried that at some point this will be permanent.
Has it actually happened at the store?
If not then we need to get it to do that. Now it may be completely random but you need to try and make a note of as many things as possible that happen when it does it.
How long has it been on for, what are you doing at the time, what's connected. If it's reproducible then you've at least got somewhere. -
I downloaded the Airport Utility 5.6 for OS X Lion and when I finish installing it sends a message that says "the instalation failed contact your software provider" And seems like thats the solution so I can use my time capsule.
