There isn't one on Apple's site, but if you have the product key, there's one on Microsoft's site. Click here.

I have microsoft office for mac for a previous mac pro but now since I have the air I cannot insert the CD. Do I have to purchase the Office program again? If not how can I install the program onto my new Air without having to purchase the new program online or the CD accesory for the Air.

This works just as good and much less expensive. Apple uses LG in some of their recent iMacs:

  • Preparing to buy Office for Mac, is Outlook required?

Is Outlook required for using my new Mac as a traveling salesman?
I need Office for reading stuff from colleagues but do not synch or share any Outlook files.  Will my Mac Mail, iCal, and Adress Book software represent any unexpected problem for a business user?
Can I synch with Outlook at a later date if necessary?

I've certainly seen no reason to use Outlook and lots of reasons not to, including the fact that at present it cannot sync with my iPhone. If your employer uses Microsoft's Exchange software you may find that Apple's built in support for Exchange is sufficient. If not you can always hold your nose and use Outlook later.

  • I use excel at work. Should I use Numbers or buy Office for Mac?

I use simple spreadsheets that I change the values in daily.  My main concern is compatibility.  I use a Macbook Air mid 2013.

    Hi sapper,
Exporting from Numbers to Excel is OK if you have a single table with no bells and whistles. That is the same as sending your accountant a plain text or CSV file. However, if you want to use the power of Numbers to do some processing and layout...
Here is a "simple" Numbers document. Two tables and two charts (graphs) on one Sheet:
Now export to Excel then import back into Numbers:
    Now 4 sheets.
Now repeat (export to Excel, then import back into Numbers:
Now 4 sheets with longer names.
And if your Excel recipient made changes, wouldn't that be a nightmare?
Stick to a single table (that becomes a single Worksheet in Excel) and you can get away with it. Anything else, good luck.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Retina display - blurry office for mac 2011 and web pages?

    Hi everyone,
I was planning on making a trip to my uni tomorrow to make the purchase of the macbook pro 13 inch 8GB RAM and 256 GB SSD (for student discount) but while doing some final research I came across several disadvantages of the RD.
For the next 3 months, the macbook will be used for report/thesis writing which means ill be using office for mac 2011 and adobe reader heavily as well as the internet. I have read many articles saying office for mac 2011 even after applying the update is still blurry and grainy as are the majority of web pages and this has put me off buying and made me think id be better off with the non retina display model, meaning I'd save £200 too.
Can anyone offer any advice on this and confirm whether or not this is true, and whether you would recommend going ahead with the purchase? A screenshot of office for mac 2011 on a retina display would be perfect
    Thanks!

I agree with BobTheFisterman.  I have Pages 5, Pages '09 and Office for Mac 2011.  I really like the Pages programs - each of the versions in their own way - but I don't like using Word on Office for Mac.  It's not the same as Office 10 when used on a Windows machine.  Not close at all in fact.  I use it because I have it, and emailing documents between my Mac and work where we use Windows makes it easy.  "Easy" is not the same as liking the software though.
The point of this, is that I would not recommend buying it.  I've heard that Open Office and Libre Office are very credible alternatives, and work very much like Word on Windows.  Both are free and get very good reviews.  I've not used either so can't speak from personal experience, but what I would say after buying Office for Mac is that I wish I had tried the free alternatives first.
The other alternative to consider of course of Google Drive.  I use that for non-confidential documents, but I wouldn't trust it for storage of any confidential work related stuff.

  • PC has just died, so have ordered an mbp. Will word transfer, or do I have to buy word for Mac????

    Hi.
    My PC has finally died.......
    Excitingly, have ordered a MBP.
My question is, will word documents transfer, or do I need to buy word for windows.
Nothing serious, just letters, invoices etc.
    THANK YOU.

If you're accustomed to working with MS Office, you can purchase Office for Mac 2011 and your documents will open fine - albeit if different fonts were used there may be some reflow problems.
Before buying Office for Mac, you may want to try out two free alternatives - LibreOffice or OpenOffice. I don't use them as I use Office for Mac but either should be able to open your Word documents.

  • Pages, Office for Mac 2011

Hi. After so many hassles every time I export my Pages documents to Word (especially using Pages 5 and especially with the footnoting), I've finally realized I need to get Office for Mac. Until I try it, I don't know if I'll be writing in Pages, exporting and then checking the document in Windows for Mac, or if I like Windows for Mac enough that I'll write directly in that program. What I would like to know is this: are there any issues with Pages '09 (OK, AND Pages 5) and compatibility with this Windows program. And when the document looks right in Windows for Mac can I be absolutely certain that it will be right when opened on a PC?
I'd appreciate someone's thoughts on this.
The reason I ask especially about Pages '09 and Windows for Mac 2011 is that the Windows is obviously a later program: is the older Mac program OK with it?
    Thank you for your advice.

  • Paralells (regular Office) or Office for Mac ?

New rMBP, I've arrived from PC world.  Should I buy Office for Mac or run the old fashioned version in Paralells.  I'm tring to talk myself out of having to install Paralells, but know that eventually I'll need Windows for something else.  I do use Office and Outlook a lot and want it to be the best experience.  Thanks.

The MacUpdate March Bundle includes Parallels - http://deals.macupdate.com/ - for $50. The rest of the apps may be useless, but that's a good buy for Parallels.
If you have Office for Windows, I would just buy Parallels and stick with the version of Office that you're accustomed to - I have to run Office 2013 and I hate it. Office for Mac 2011 is much, much more like Office 2010 but there will be a slight learning curve if you're switching from Office 2010.
I can't really say what the best solution is - I dread thinking that a 2014 version of Mac Office is going to have the same look and feel of Office 2013 for Windows, but it might. If you think that you'll need Windows sometimes, I guess that I would just go ahead and purchase Parallels, install Windows and whichever version of Office for Windows you have.
    Sorry to sound so ambiguous...

  • Office for Mac 2008

I need to be able to transfer data from a spreadsheet (not from my address book) to create address labels. I have not been able to do this in iWorks so I have been told to buy Office for Mac. I have purchased Office for Mac 2008 Home & Student edition. Before I install it, (1) Will this enable me to do this? (2) I have read many complaints on this site about Office for Mac. I am a limited computer user, Am I likely to have problems? I have been using Open Office but can't find a way to create labels on that.

i think there is no problem with office mac 2008 i had use it it is very user friendly so don't worry just follow the installations steps.....

  • I just bought a macbook pro and am ready to order Microsoft Office for Mac. I use Windows 2007 at work and want to be sure I am able to work with files from that system. Do I need to buy 2 different editions of Microsoft Office to be able to do this?

Do I need to buy 2 different Microsoft Office products if I want to be able to use my new Mac with Microsoft Office for Mac and also use files saved on my work computer which uses Microsoft Window 2007?

Sorry, but your likely going to have to use Windows 7 and Office on your Mac at work using Bootcamp.
Although you can share files OfficeMac and Office on Windows, the formatting will be off because two platforms use different installed fonts and formatting. This will cause a productivity lost and require extra editing at work
If you could share just PDF's then your fine, but that will unlikely be the case.
So to share files seamlessly your going to have to install Windows 7 (another $300) full version, 64 bit, using Apple's Bootcamp.
    https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
It's ok, though, you can boot into OS X to use that online and surfing etc at home. It's the internet and sharing of files from other Windows users that cause Windows to hoze up, so mimimalize both of those and you should be fine.
You can also run Windows 7 in a virtual machine software like Parallels or VMFusion. as long as you don't have any super demanding needs of the hardware, like running 3D games or super intense CPU actions like video processing. Office work is just fine and it's safer than Bootcamp, as in a virtual machine you can keep "snapshots" of previous states of the OS, and revert back to in case something goes wrong in mere seconds.
A real good piece of news though, Windows 8 is so radically changed from Windows 7, that your workplace will remain with Windows 7 as long as possible to put off all the retraining necessary with that new OS version.
So think of the $300 + $60 investment in Windows on your Mac as a longterm thing.

  • I am going to buy either a Mac Air or Mac Pro Retina 8GB RAM and 256GB. And as I have to still run Windows I will install Parallels 9. As the Mac are both 64bit machines does that mean I need to install Windows 7 64bit ? And office pro 2013 64 bit too?

As the Mac are both 64bit machines does that mean I need to install Windows 7 64bit or just install 32 bit? (Going with Win7 as I hate Win8). And I will install Office Pro 2013 64 bit too or 32 bit or is that automatically selected by the underlying OS (I use Word, Excel and Access mainly for a membership database of a local club) ? I am not a power user so would appreciate advice on way to go

Again thank you.  If I only use word, excel and access in the Win environment and Mac OS for email and safari for internet do I need anti virus software . Ie my connection to the world is mac only and I use office pro only to ruin the club, newsletters, membership database etc. and of course anything I do there can drag/drop to the mac environ to email.  That's my understanding anyway.  Next will my existing .pst file copy directly into mac mail or do I have to runs translator  as I recall reading something about that ages ago when I started thinking Mac

  • What version of office for mac is mininally needed to be installed on 10.9? I just tried my own 2004, which as too old, am hoping 2008 or 2011 since I don't want to buy a new one...

    Hi,
I work on a second hand macbook pro running on 10.9 and now want office for mac on it, additionally to the sofware I already have.
On my old macbook I had office 2004 and since I still have two product codes unused was hoping these can still be used, but I tried to install it and it's just not supported anymore.
Since I don't have a lot of budget right now I hope 2008 may be possible to be installed since I can get one for only a little money (want no illegal copies), but it's a shame to get it if it turns out not to work.......I read somewhere 2008 is not supported anymore but I don't know if that necessarily means it cannot be installed.....
or do I need 2011 at least?
Or would 10.9 actually only allow the latest 2013 version to be installed?
I'd like to know before buying anything......
Right now it actually has an office 2011 version installed by the previous user but unfortunately that one was not activated and I have no way to retrieve the product code.
as i said, i like it to be legal, that's why I prefer buying the original software and the older versions can be found cheaper......
I hope someone can give me some advice!
    thanks,

Office 2011 is the current boxed version for the Mac. The two versions are Home and Business. The difference (besides price) is that the Business version includes Outlook. Both contain Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Actually, the Home version also has Outlook hidden on the disk. If you decided later you want to use Outlook, you can call Microsoft for an unlock code to install it from the Home version disk. The unlock cost is essentially the difference between the Home and Business versions.
You mentioned Office 2013, but that's the current Windows version. MS hasn't really stated one way or another if there will be a feature comparable boxed Mac version. If there is, it looks like we won't see it until sometime in 2014. To get the current functionality of Office 2013 in a Mac product, you'd have to purchase the subscription based Office 365.
It does depend on your needs. Often, Office must be used for true compatibility with people you work, or collaborate with. It also has many features the free alternatives don't offer, and can't import or replicate. Otherwise, as Gary noted, Open Office is a good free choice.
