I can't add a second gmail account to my apple mail

I'm using an Apple desktop and the latest version of Yosemite. I'm using Apple Mail version 8.1.
I have two different gmail accounts and I wanted to have them both in Apple mail. But when I try to add the second one, it won't let me. I input my username and password but when I click next it just erases what I had typed in and won't accept it. Could anyone tell me what might be causing this?
I currently have two emails in there. One of my gmails and my school email.
Thank you for your help!

  • I can't add a second email account. I get a message next to the password field 'Username or password invalid'. I can login to gmail web ok, imap is enabled.

I have setup TB using a gmail account and is working fine. When I try to add another gmail account I get an error 'Username or password invalid'. I can login to this second gmail account through the web at gmail and the account has imap enabled.
ps - i've been using these accounts for years through the web
    Thanks

I also tried deleting TB altogether and reinstalled trying the problem gmail account and it still didn't work.
While checking on the 2-factor authentication, which I don't use, i noticed something. The working gmail account allowed 'access for less secure apps' and my problem account didn't. I enabled that and was able to add it to TB. All works now!
Not sure if the less secure apps is a good thing, but its working.
    Thanks Christ1

  • My sons have shared an iPad but had just one iTunes account. How can we add a second iTunes account?

My sons have shared an iPad but had just one iTunes account. How can we add a second iTunes account?

There is no reason to add a second iTunes account to the iPad unless your sons want to use their own credit cards for purchases and somehow I don't think is the case here.
Anyway.... Settings>Store>Apple ID - tap that ID and sign out. Then tap sign in and tap Create new Apple ID.
If your sons sync with one iTunes library on a computer, it can get a little confusing with two IDs. If either of them has their own iPod and they have been sharing purchased content with the one Apple ID, it gets a little more complicated as well with two IDs.

There is a better forum for issues with iCloud.
Apple has a couple tech note articles to help with email, and with gmail as well.
    Try there.

  • HT1277 How can I add a second email account to my "Mail" tab on iMac?

All I have managed to do is add a Smartmail box, but that just specifies folders in my yahoo. I want to check my google email using the same icon. Setting both up on my iPhone was super simple, but for the life of me I can't figure it out on my mac.

    Hello,
On the Mac, in Mail's menu>Preferences>Accounts tab, click the tiny  plus icon & add your account.

I have an iPod and iPad.  My wifr just go an iPhone and wants an iTune account.  Can I have 2 separate accounts on one PC, and if so how do I do that?  Can she share my music files?  Thanks.

"Can I have 2 separate accounts on one PC,"
Yes.  not sure why you would want two accounts, but you can if you like.
" Can she share my music files? "
Yes.  Not sure why you wouldn't just use one account and library, but you can if you like.

I would like to have 2 passwords and 2 login accounts for my ipad--one for my business content and one for my kids names.  They love to play game with my ipad but I prefer not to give them free rein of my content including my email.  Can I do this somehow?

No, the iPad is basically a single user device. You can protect your email via the following work-around : https://discussions.apple.com/message/13127632#13127632

  • How can I add a second iTunes account on our iPad3 ?

Or transfer the downloads from one account to the other ?

You can but you will have to log in to each account whenever you update each app.
It becomes a major pain trying to keep track of what account bought what and which password do you put in.

  • How do I add a second email account in ICloud mail

How do I add a second email account to my iCloud mail, like a POP account?

I talked with Apple and they have taken away the ability to check other email addresses on iCloud like you could in MobileMe via POP or whatever.
Not sure why I would use iCloud if I can't check all of my email there, and I'm certainly not going to configure four POP accounts on my phone, my laptop, ipad, and work computer...
    Bummer...I'm going back to Gmail.

i'm trying to set up a gmail account to the apple mail program on mac (still works in iphone and ipad). after many diffrent approaches,
i think i have all the right setnings. But i still cant connect to the google IMAP, both with or without SSL.
i guess perhaps that the problem could be within the google settings.
does anyone have another solution i could try?

it dosn't work.. have tried that at least 5 times..
