I can't burn a playlist to a CD-R or CD-RW

Trying to make a mix CD. Tried two different types of CDs. Downloaded current iTunes update. CD-RW will play in car but not on Bose home stereo. CD-R for music spits CD out and says
The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to respond properly unable to recover or retry.

Have you tried burning in a lower speed? You can choose in the PopUp right before burning the CD.

i can't burn a playlist to a disc from itunes, it comes up with no supported disc burners found, any ideas?

    Additional information:
-also ran "Repair" with new download of iTunes
-am using the same spindle of CDs that worked perfectly a month ago.  Tried another brand also to be safe.  None worked.
-ran CD/DVD diagnostics within iTunes with Apple Care - no issues apparent
-also tried write-speed 20X on advice of Apple Care (don't know why they thought 20X would be the magic number after the other 3 I tried didn't work)
-tried running itunes in another user account on the computer - same problem, same error code
-Apple suggested it was a copyright issue.  I can't even burn music that I created/recorded myself, so that doesn't make sense.
-They thought maybe Quicktime wasn't installed properly, so we checked a film in Windows Media - it played, meaning Quicktime was fine apparently.
    Solution:
Unclicked CD text option & Sound Check, ran burn from the File drop down menu (max speed) on a Philips CD-R and it worked!  Had been right clicking the playlist name and selecting Burn option from there.  That being said, it did not work on 2 other brands prior, with same settings.  Not sure why.  Just happy it's working again. Is it a brand issue?

  • New problem. I can not burn a playlist to disk.

New problem. I can not burn a playlist to disk. The 'checking playlist' now takes about one second, looks very much like a malfunction here. Seems to initialize the disk - them moves straight into 'burning/finalizing disk' which also takes about one second. Then 'burning - finishing disk takes a little longer -
Error reading is "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disk drive didn't respond properly an can't recover.'
This happend once before a while back and I thought it was 'too skinny disks'. Using 'printable disks; seemed to fix the problem - until now.
Blank cd's can  be opened in the finder and files burnt to them.
DVD's can be burned from DVD Pro.
Music cd's and dvd's can be played.
Just can't burn the itunes playlist.

  • I can't burn my playlist.  I have a playlist ready, a cd in and when I click "burn", it tells me the burner is busy.

I can't burn my playlist.  I have a playlist ready, cd inserted, click burn playlist to cd, get the usual screen, click burn and get the message cd burner is busy".  Also, the cd is now stuck and I can't get it out no matter what I try.

Is this resolved? I am having this issue too. So, is there an answer out there? Hum....

  • I can't burn a playlist because computer isn't authorized. Error shows old email address. How do I correct that?

    Hi,
I created a playlist and I want to burn it to a disc. However, I got a message that stated that certain songs were not authorized to play on this computer. In the message box it listed an incorrect email address. I tried to change it but that didn't work I don't know how to correct it so all of the songs I chose can be burned to the disc. What do I do?
How do I deauthorized an old computer?

    Hi Murphy1942,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has some information on authorizing iTunes purchases that may help:
iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1389
Authorize using the correct account name
The items you are trying to play might have been purchased using a different iTunes Store account. To determine which account was used to purchase an item, follow these steps:
Select a purchased song in your library and choose File > Get Info.
Click the Summary tab. Note the Account Name that appears in the list. This is the account name (Apple ID) you will need to use when authorizing your computer to play this purchase.
Note: The account name that appears is the one you used when purchasing the item and does not change if the account name (Apple ID) changes.
If you've authorized the Apple ID that is shown in the Summary tab, you can check the purchase history for that Apple ID from Store > View My Account. If your purchase history does not reflect the purchase of the items in your iTunes library, consider any other Apple ID you may have created, and authorize the computer for your additional Apple ID.
If you forgot the password to one of your accounts, you can recover it using Apple's password-recovery website.
    Cheers,
    - Ari

  • How can I burn a playlist to a disc which will play in any CD player?

I am trying to burn a playlist to a disc that I can play in a CD player. I have a HP Lightscribe DVD/CD burner. The software is Cyberlink Power2Go. I have wasted two blank dvd discs so far. They will play on my computer, but that's not what I need. I want to play them in a regular CD player, such as I have in my truck.
When I choose "audio CD" I get a message that "I have chosen a CD but have inserted a blank DVD" and it won't let me choose anything else.

You need to burn onto CD-R or CD-RW discs. You cannot burn to a blank DVD disc for the purposes of playing CD-Audio. They are different media with different characteristics, just like you can't play a DVD in a CD player.

  • Can i burn multiple playlist to disc?

Is it possible to burn multiple playlist to one cd on my macbook pro? I do this all the time on pc. what i want to do is create several folders and drag mp3 files into them so that when i play them in the car i can jump from one playlist (or album) instantly.

  • Can't burn a playlist from my library to MP3 format

I Tunes says I can burn a playlist from my library to MP3 format and Help even tells you how to make the settings. When I do this it says that I cannot burn into MP3 format because music purchased from I Tunes. Is this correct ? I thought that I Tunes, I Pod and Mac was all about using your music. I have an MP3 CD player in my car and wanted a MP3 disk.
Am I doing something wrong ?

I have 75 songs on the playlist, burning a CD would require 4 disks, 20 songs per CD. In MP3 format I could get up to 200 songs per disk. I usually play my Ipod through the radio via a transmitter, but at times there is just too much interference. I just purchased a new vehicle that has a CD that takes MP3 format, so I figured I could just burn a playlist in MP3 format. What good is the CD if you cant make a MP3 formatted disk. There must be a way to do this. ITunes shows you how to set up to burn in MP3 format so I'm figuring if you can't why would they show you how to set it up ??
    Thanks

  • Upgrading to iTunes 7.6 and now can't burn any playlists

    Hi:
I've finally upgraded to iTunes 7.6 and it now won't let me burn any playlists. When I try, it asks me to insert a blank disc, which I do, it then says checking media and then nothing. I've rebooted, uninstalled, reinstalled and still the same issue. Before I upgraded I had no problem burning a cd, plus after upgrading, I've tried to burn other things off of my computer and that all still works. Any suggestions?

Having the same frustrating problem and have spent hours tryinhg to figure out. E-mail to iTunes support was pretty much useless and they finally advised me to contact an Apple Service Technician. If you find out, please post or let me know [email protected] Staples said for $40 they could fix. Hate to pay it. Thanks.

  • Can't burn a playlist

I bought an album else where that is DRM free and encoded with Apple Lossless codec.
When I try to burn the playlist, I get the following:
The other strange thing, is that they cannot be synced with iCloud. I've tried this on other computers, and still the same result.

I'm having the exact same problem; I posted about it here:

I'm on a Mac, though, unlike the OP.
I'm trying to burn an audio CD.

  • CAN'T BURN MY PLAYLIST

    hey y'all,
this is my first time posting here......I have upgraded my MAC to Tiger and since then I am having troubles burning my playlists I create. i record on Protools and then I burn CDs with my songs to give to people.....usually I create a playlist in I-Tunes, all songs are chosen and when I click burn it only burns one song and automaticly unclicks all the others.....It drives me crazy, I never get to burn my CDs again the way i want to.......what could that be?
    THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!

Are you trying to make a normal Audio CD? If so, check and see what you are importing your files as. I found if you use MP3, when you burn to an audio CD iTunes will automatically expand your MP3 files into normal audio files used by audio CDs. However if you use Apple's compression format (AAC), I found that iTunes will NOT convert them to the uncompressed format for an audio CD and will instead simply skip over them. So a play list with 5 MP3 sounds and 5 AAU songs that are burned to an audio CD will end up with a CD with only five tracks, those that were originally MP3s.
So with that said, I suspect when you upgraded, that iTunes setting were set to the defaults and I seem to recall that AAU is the default setting for importing compression, not MP3. So check your playlist and see if the ONE song you find that will burn is indeed MP3 while the others are AAU. The solution is to either convert the tracks to MP3 from the AAU tracks (not my first choice) or reimport those tracks using the MP3 compression setting. You probably want to change your preferences permanently to MP3 for importing as well to avoid this problem in the future.

  • I can't burn my playlist on several CDs anymore without stopping the process and going to the next selection of songs. First I could, now it re-burns the same selection of songs over and over again.

I was able to burn the whole contents of a playlist on several CDs in a row. When I do it now however it will re-burn the same selection over and over again without moving to the next. What can be done?

  • Can't burn the playlist in itunes 9

I'm running itunes 9 and after importing songs from a CD I click on the button to burn a new playlist and at the same time to the right of the screen is a page describing itunes 9 features. I can't get rid of this page to burn the CD. Any ideas? Thanks.

This is kind of hard to understand, can you clarify?
When you say "after importing songs from a CD" do you mean after importing songs into your itunes library, or after creating a playlist from songs you've already imported?
Are you viewing the playlist you'd like to burn when you hit a button to burn a CD?
Is the button you're hitting "Burn CD" or are you hitting the button that looks like a reverse play button in the bottom right corner (that launches the genius sidebar)?
Is the screen you're describing one that shows how to create a playlist? If so, that pops up when you create a new playlist, and goes away when you add tracks to the playlist. This screen has also gone away with the 9.1 update for me, I don't know if that happened for everybody.

  • Can't burn a playlist in iTunes 9.0.1 (9)

Have created a playlist and when I try to burn it to a music CD, I get the burn settings dialogue box as normal. If I press burn I get the dialogue box explaining that multiple CDs are required, as again per normal for a playlist too big for one CD. When I then press "Audio CDs", nothing happens, no error message, nothing.
The Playlist does contain protected iTunes Store purchases, but other playlists I have that also have these types of tracks are still burning fine.
Only relevant thing I can think of is that it's the first Playlist I've created since installing iTunes 9.
    Any ideas?

    Matt -
I'm experiencing a similar problem. Shortly after updating the new iTunes 9, I can no longer burn any of my playlists to CD's of any kind. I have gone as far as calling Apple to ask for help, in which they made me a case # , and told me to restart my computer in the meantime, which did nothing. I was thinking of un-installing iTunes 9? But was sincerely worried that by uninstalling or deleting this would cause my ENTIRE iTunes to become depleted. I am looking for some answers to the error message "Attempt to burn a disc failed. Unable to recover/load the disc properly. Retry".

No, the playlist must be in iTunes in order to burn a CD.
