I can't clean Mail from Mac Mail..

I am trying to clean up my mail. I deleted thousands of files. If I click on an individual mail account it shows cleaned. If I click on the overall tab it still shows 10K messages. I have rebooted, cleaned trash all the normal. Is there something i am over looking or a better way??

Are they in the Trash folder? Did you empty it? Try quitting Mail and reopening or restarting.

  • Cannot send mail from mac mail or Entourage

    Hi guys,
Wondered if anyone out there can shed some light on this little problem.
I use Entourage for my emails & all was working fine until yesterday. I can receive mail from all and sundry but I can't send anything. I subscribe to ntlworld internet service and if log onto my email through their webmail, then it's fine. I've tried sending mail from mac mail and I get the same problem. I've been onto microsoft support & gone through all the troubleshooting with Entourage. The Entourage techy suggested it was my internet provider blocking my emails as they think I'm a spammer?? I phoned ntl & they insist it's nothing to do with them as I can send/receive from the website. (If I send an email with the address @ntlworld it's fine, but any other address i.e. all my clients/mates etc just stays in my outbox.
Nothing on any of my settings has changed so I'm at a loss what to do next.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Mel

it may be that your server (internet provider) has just started blocking outgoing mails not authenticated by them.
Go to your account set up...
and fill in the following details.
    SMTP SERVER: smtp.mac.com
then click on advanced sending otions...
click on override default SMTP port... type 587
click on SMTP servber requires authentication...
use same setting as receiving mail server.
    try this...

  • How to transfer mails from mac mail to outlook?

Can anyone explain to me how to transfer e-mails from Mac Mail to Microsoft Outlook?

I just went the other way - Outlook to Thunderbird to Mac Mail.  I lost some notes in some folders.
My fall back position was to set up an IMAP account and use Google sync to Outlook to move my mail into a Google account.  Then on the Mac I set up a IMAP account to download all the mail.  Once I had it on the Mac, I copied the IMAP folders into Personal folders on Local Machine.  I then deleted the IMAP account and reverted to using my 'usual accounts'.
Hope this helps you a bit!

  • Can't send email from Mac MAIL

I am setting up my new MacBook -- specifically the Mac MAIL, and intend to include a yahoo account and my new mac.com account.
So far, through Mac MAIL, I am able to send and receive email with my mac.com account, but can only receive email on my yahoo account. When I try to send an email from the yahoo account through Mac Mail, I get an error message about the outgoing server. (btw, no trouble if I go through the Safari browser to yahoo, which is why yahoo phone assistant gave up trying).
BUT.....the outgoing server settings are correct, as per my review and the yahoo phone assistant. Still, no luck.
Anyone had this problem? Thanks for any advice.

    Kappy,
Am I reading it correctly that you’re suggesting the OP to set up his/her Yahoo account again?
You should never, ever, set up two accounts in Mail with the same Account Type, User Name and Incoming Mail Server. For each account, Mail creates a folder within ~/Library/Mail/ whose name starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the username and the incoming mail server. Having two accounts sharing the same account folder in Mail is calling for trouble. Amongst other problems, deleting one of the accounts would cause the (shared) account folder to be deleted as well, and all the mail stored there to be lost...

  • Issues sending Godaddy account mail from Mac Mail

So i've been running into an issue with emailing from my godaddy account lately.
Kind of a weird issue-It's run flawlessly for over a year, but a few weeks ago it's doing this thing
where i'll send a godaddy email out, and it doesn't send, I just get the spinning wheel next to "Sending" in the email icons window.. After about 5 minutes, I get an error message stating that
the connection to the godaddy outgoing mail server (which has up until recently always worked fine) has timed out on Port 80 and directs me to select another server to send from, the only other of which
is the outgoing server for my .mac account.. So the weird part is, I select the godaddy server again,
the same one that just timed out, and it always sends immediately..
So my question is, why do I have to continuously get this error ever time I try to send mail? it's annoying.
    Thanks

    I'm having issues too.
I've also noticed that this is a problem with GoDaddy's servers in combination with Mac Mail. This seems to happen more frequently whenever I try to reply to a message (especially if the message had attachments). Often, the error will either say "Authentication failed" or "Could not connect to server" or "Connection timed out" or lately "Server requires authentication, please check your settings". I've been all over this with GoDaddy changing the port from 80 to 25 to 3535 and it still happens with alarming regularity. One fix (maybe it's not a fix) is to take the message I'm replying with and insert a few spaces at the head and then delete them. Then send. It usually goes then. This may be voodoo, but it seems to work. If I don't, then I can't reply.
In talking with GoDaddy support, they suggest talking with my ISP (Qwest) to see if they're blocking access to any other SMTP servers. This doesn't make sense because the problem happens at work, at home, on the road etc. where there are any number of ISPs in place.
I've never had this problem with any other client other than Mac Mail. This problem has moved from Tiger to Leopard, so I don't think it's an install issue. I've rebuilt my accounts with fresh information, so I'm now at a loss...
    Anyone else with this problem?

  • Links in e-mails from Mac Mail Application won't open in a web browser

I use my Mac Mail application for all my e-mail accounts. I switched from Safari to Mozilla Firefox and now links I try to click on in my e-mails do not open in a mozilla browser as I they did when I had Safari as my main browser. I've tested Chrome and Safari and the links open when clicked using both of those browsers. However, I prefer Mozilla to both of those and would like to get this working as it is a convenience to have to copy and paste links every time.

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. In the Finder, go to /Applications/ and try to open Mail by double-clicking on it. Look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues.
In the meanwhile, try reinstalling the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for PowerPC
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for Intel
After installing the Combo Update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Importing Mail from Mac Mail

I just installed Leopard on my eMac and it installed just fine. However, I seemed to have installed it clean instead of an upgrade.
I see the files for my mail in my "username"|Library|Mail|Mailboxes folder, but cannot import them. When I go to Mail and choose "File" then "Import Mailboxes", I get a option of where to import mail from. I choose "Mail for Max OS X" and then show it where I saw my mailboxes, but they do not show up for me to select them.
    How do I do this?
    HELP!!

Well, I have finally figured out the problem. Some moron (that would be me) installed Leopard on the external hard drive instead of the main hard drive. Time Machine will NOT use the same drive that it boots from to back up the computer.
Solution: Unplug the external drive, let it boot to the old operating system, reinstall Leopard, plug in the external hard drive and then configure Time Machine to use the external drive.
Thank you for all your help and suggestions.

Spent two hours on the phone today with BT. They escaleted the problem to a specialist support desk, which we then had to agree to paying a £30 charge if they were able to fix the problem as they say that it is a problem with mac mail. (Which it isn't because it works fine using a different broadband connection, and we have three laptops in the house all with same problem, using outlook as well as mail).
All three laptops have been working with out fault for the last four years and just before christmas they all stopped being able to send emails using hotmail. Obviously BT have changed something somewhere along the line.
The Specialist just changed our outgoing mail server to use BTs instead. (I have been using a different SMTP server anyway as a temporary fix since christmas) Whilst we are able to send emails, we are still unable to connect to hotmails SMTP server. Still had to pay the £30 though. As far as they are concerned that still counts as a fix. Another "solution" they gave me was to change the DNS address in system preferences- Not Ideal as everytime you connect your laptop to a new network you will have to reset them.An absolute joke.
Their direct number is 08000 321 118 if you need them to talk you through it. Best to have your bank card to hand.
    Livid.

  • Has anyone an Intermittent Problem sending mail from Mac OS X (10.6.8)?

I have a Mac mini operating on Mac OS X(10.6.8) Snow Leopard. In the last couple of weeks I have been having intermittent problems sending mail from Mac MAIL, especially if I hit the reply button.  It whirls around for ever and then tells me to 'Try Later' or 'Try Again'.  When I shut down my computer and open up mail again, I hear the mail whizzing off.  I have just tried it now and it went in the time that it has taken me to compose this email. But sometimes the mail doesn't go at all. Could it me because I have too many messages in my inbox and sent boxes (around 1000 in each)?  I read somewhere that you should delete Mail in library/pref/com.apple.mail.plst and reinstal it.  But I'm frightened to do this in case I can't re-instal it as I don't know how to.

  • How can I do a clean install of Mac Mail client? ...

... without doing a clean reinstall of the entire OS?
I've been wrestling with my Mac Mail client all day and am pretty sure I've got a corrupted file somewhere, either in the app or in the Home<Library folder somewhere. I've been using the mail app for several years without issues with .mac mail as the primary and a couple of POP accounts from gmail and pacbell. The troubles began late Monday when I was batch deleting some old e-mails from the mail server. The entire inbox (maybe 120+ e-mails disappeared.
Since then, I can receive mail from all three mail providers, but am unable to send via any provider on my Mac Mail client. I have a PC that pulls mail from all three services via POP3, and it's working fine for both sending and receiving.
I was also able to create a .mac account on the Mac Mail client on a spare iMac and had no trouble sending or receiving from it. But the Mail client on my G5 refuses to send. I've reconfigured all the accounts, checked them 10 times, deleted and reinstalled them all, all to no avail, which is why I think there's bad ju-ju in one of the files somewhere.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks.

First find out if you need to reinstall the mail app. Create a new user by going to system preferences >accounts. Unlock the lock and click on the + sign. Create a new user account. Log into the new user by going to the apple menu and logging out. In the new user go to system preferences>.mac. Enter your user name and password. If you can log in here then open Mail. Your .mac mail should be automatically set up. Send a test e-mail to yourself. If Mail works then the problem is specific to your user account and you do not need to reinstall the Mail app. If the Mail works then consider continuing to set up your other accounts in this user. Once your accounts are working in the new user close all windows and applications. Go the the ~/Library/Preferences and holding down on the Option key drag the com.apple.mail.plist to desktop. Now select your hard drive icon in the finder window and double click on the Users folder. Drag the com.apple.mail.plist into the Shared folder. Log out of your new user account and back into your account. Navigate to the ~/Library/Preferences and drag your com.apple.mail.plist from that folder onto the desktop. Open your hard drive and go to the Users folder and open it, then open the Shared folder. Drag the com.apple .mail.plist from the shared folder into the open Preferences window. Close the windows and open mail. Mail should work.

  • I can no longer send emails from my mac yahoo business account, but can send them directly from yahoo. just not from mac mail. I've been able to send emails perfectly fine until today. Help!

I can no longer send emails from my mac yahoo business account, but can send them directly from yahoo. just not from mac mail. I've been able to send emails perfectly fine until today. I've been on the phone with yahoo mail and they've verified that my account settings are correct and I can send email from yahoo. I can receive emails via Mac mail, but just can't send them. An error message appears that says:
"Sending the message content to the server failed." I can't send emails from my Mac desktop, iphone or ipad. Any suggestions! Help! I'm a Mac rookie and so frustrated! Thanks.

Please read and begin using Can receive email, but not send email. I had a similar issue with Comcast mail (could receive by not send) and found my answer in this letter. For me it took resetting the outgoing mail and telling the system to use a password when sending outgoing mail. If you need help with that please advise and I'll tell you where to look.

  • Suddenly can not access .mac mail from Apple Mail

Suddenly, I can not access .mac mail from Apple Mail (Version 2.1.1 (752.3)).
For quite a few years I have been using Apple Mail to access my .mac email. As of last Friday, Mail stopped working. Nothing has changed (accept for the installation of the latest OS X security upgrade - SecUpd2006-008Univ.pkg).
I can still access my .mac mail through the .mac web browser and I can still access it through SnapperMail on my Palm Treo 680. But, when I open Apple Mail on my MacBook, it does not do anything, just sits there. When I open the Activity Viewer window, 3 activities are going on:
    1. Opening Mailbox
    2. Synchronizing with Server (Connecting to...)
    3. Synchronizing with Server (Synchronizing with...)
After a few minutes, the error triangle appears next to the Inbox and .Mac logos on the left hand panel.
I have tried Apple Mail from several locations (different ISP / WiFi / LAN) over several days but get the same problem.
Does anyone have ideas for a solution?
    Regards

Let’s first make sure that the update is installed properly, and post back with your observations when done.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the update that appears to not have been installed properly. You may also need to reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with your computer:
