Hi minutemantechs - welcome to the forum!
This is not a limitation imposed by iMovie. Check your external drive's format - it must be Mac OS Extended. Yours is probably formatted for PCs. Note that re-formatting will clear everything stored on the drive. re-format via Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.

    Hi Midnightbrat,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The troubleshooting steps for the camera on the iPad are similar to the iPhone:  I've highlighted the pertinent steps below:
    Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    Camera
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tapping Settings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Third-party cases can interfere with the autofocus/exposure feature and the flash; try removing the case if you have image-quality issues with photos.
Try turning the iPad off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try switching between the front and the back cameras to verify if the issue persists on both.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • Shutdown normal

    Hi,
While stopping an Oracle database I have used "SHUTDOWN" command, to stop the Oracle database normally. But there are already some existing connections to the database. After shutdown normal Oracle waits for these connections to be disconnected themself.
Suppose these connections do not gets disconnected themself. Then Oracle won't allow you to connect to database again to kill those database sessions, and we are stuck. Though this can be managed by rebooting the database machine. But inspite of rebooting the machine, is there any other way as well to handle this scenario?
    Thanks in advance.

The suggestion had been "+You can grep database connections from OS and kill them individually+". This works on Unix/Linux where separate server processes service each user. On Windows it is a single multi-threaded process.
The suggestion had been to kill individual processes -- which you can't do on Windows.
What you did was to kill the Oracle database instance process.
+If you have compared Oracle on Unix/Linux with Windows you'd know that the reference is to Unix/Linux not Windows. (and that is not because "Oracle is different on Windows" but because the architecture on Windows has to be multi-threaded rather than multi-processing if different database sessions are to access a shared SGA.+ But I digress).
So, on Unix/Linux, it is easier to identify and kill individual processes.
(+If you know how to map database sessions to oracle PIDs to individual threads in the single Oracle.exe process and then how to use orakill, you'd be able to do something similar on Windows.+ But, again, I digress).
If you want a method to handle some (the DBA ??) inadvertently issuing SHUTDOWN instead of SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE, think of
    a. Configuring your Service Shutdown to use SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE and making it mandatory for all DBAs/SysAdmins to use Service Shutdown instead of SQLPlus SHUTDOWN
    b. Making it mandatory for all DBAs to use SQLPlus SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE or suffer a reprimand for using SHUTDOWN
    c. Write an ON SHUTDOWN database trigger that
i loops through all database sessions
ii excludes the background sessions and the session that issues the shutdown
iii issues an ALTER SYSTEM KILL SESSION for the remaining sesssions

You might want to export the Environment definition and

Subject: Can I stop the "Attempting to Rebind" after EnvMgr goes AWOL
    Hi All.
In the last few weeks I have had the Environment Manager (for development)
go AWOL in as many weeks.
During a restart - after cleaning up (stop/id) all other Forte processes - I
run into virtual memory limitations - and the restart fails.
A larger virtual memory quota (doubling the pagefile quota actually) did the
    trick.
However the quota is too large to be kept and I have reverted to 400,000
blocks (OpenVMS talk for about 200MB).
The problem appears to be caused by all this attempted rebinding.
"With Forte Release 3, this rebinding process is asynchronous" (see
    TN11537).
Q: Can I disable the attempted rebind so to reduce memory needs on a restart
    after the EnvMgr goes AWOL?
Supplementary Q: If so - How?
    TIA and Seasons Greetings,
    Dirk

    Hi,
We usually do a shutdown on the topmost level using escript. I assume that
will shutdown all installed partitions and the environment. Or did I get it
wrong that we have to shutdown application first that the environment?

    Hi,
Sorry, I don't have that kind of problem. Are you doing your
    shutdown
on the application level from EConsole ? Do you shutdown your
    application
before shutting down the environment ? Do you have the same symptom
    after
having rebuilt your environment repository ?
The best I could say is still to make an export of the environment
    on
your exploitation procedures (every day for instance) and to restart
your environment from this export. I presume that you still have
    referenced
links in your environment repository which are not available. Until
    you
make a clean Environement repository from an edf file you may have
    the
    problem.
    Hope this helps,

  • Grid & shutdown normal

Funny situation. We have a development database that goes down every night for a cold backup (it is a BCV split, so downtime is minimal). Anyway, one of the DBA's here left GRID on a database Performance screen with 10 sec. refresh interval. Shutdown process is:
    a) stop oem_agent
    b) shutdown abort
    c) startup restrict
    d) shutdown normal
    e) start oem_agent
    Guess what:

Now, AFAIK remote connections AS SYSDBA to a database in restricted mode are not allowed:
    SQL> connect xxx@xxx as sysdba

    ERROR:
ORA-12526: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are in restricted mode So question I have is how OMS server which is, obviously, on a separate box can make a remote connection AS SYSDBA to a database in restricted mode? And how to prevent it so database could be shut down in normal mode?

  • I put an app onto my phone via my comp when there wasn't space on my phone originally to download it directly. Now however, everytime I visit the app store on my phone it tries to download the same app that's already there. How can I stop it doing this?

My phone didn't have space on it when I originally tried downloading a large app (Infinity Blade), so I downloaded the app on my computer to save time and removed apps from my phone to make space for it.
I then connected my phone to my computer and transferred the app across onto my phone and it works fine.
However, everytime I visit the App Store on my phone it starts downloading this same app until it tells me there isn't enough space for it at which point the app goes back to its normal already downloaded self and I can carry on playing the same game.
How can I stop it from trying to re-download everytime I visit the app store?

If it's still trying to download the app to your phone, then it thinks the app is not on the device.
A reset or restart would be a good starting point to clear up the attempts to redownload the app.

  • I am using an early 2008 MacBook Pro and am having issues with it deleting text on its own (in word, emails, etc.). As I am typing it all of a sudden starts deleting and I can't stop it. What can I do?

I am using an early 2008 MacBook Pro and am having issues with it deleting text on its own (in word, emails, etc.). As I am typing it all of a sudden starts deleting and I can't stop it. This happened once before and it was due to a buldging battery pressing on the track pad. I checked the battery and it appears to be fine. What can I do?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • How can I stop a report service manually ?

How can I stop a report service manually in DOS command?
I only know start a report service manually in DOS command. For example:rwserver service=repljbass

My start/stop scripts for Solaris looks like this.
    Start:
    rwserver.sh server=reportserver batch=yes
Note: batch=yes means that the extra control window doesn't start (at least on Unix)
    Stop:
    rwserver.sh server=reportserver shutdown=immediate authid=repadmin/reports
Just remove the .sh and it'll work on your PC.
PS. The complete Solaris start command I use is:
    exec nohup rwserver.sh server=reportserver batch=yes &

  • Ever seen the error "ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally"?

Have a user who hasn't used E-test in about a year. He has version 8.01.0249 with IE 7.0 and is getting an error running a script: "Windows display driver stopped responding. The ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally . . . .".
On a different machine with E-test 7.0 with IE 7.0, the same script works fine.
Should I have him upgrade to version 8.20.0526? Also, assuming I upgrade his version, why does the same script work with E-test 7.0?
    THANKS!

    Hi,
It would be better to upgrade to version 8.20.0526. Prior to eTest Suite 8.20.x there was no support for IE 7. There were some cases where eTest Suite would work with IE 7, but it was not consistent since the product did not has IE 7 contemplated in the design. That can explain why it works with e-Test Suite 7.0.
Additionally in 8.20.526 there are several additional features that makes the tasks easier, and there are several bug corrections that can save you time when troubleshooting scripts.
If you are planning to use eTester for Load testing scripts I would recommend moving to 8.20.0569, which has additional bug fixes that can save you a call to support.
You may want to contact your Empirix Sales Rep in order to know if your license would work with the latest version of e-Test Suite or just install it and try the license.
Once you install e-Test Suite 8.20 make a quick test to see if it works with your web application, then, consider the alternative of upgrading all the other computers that will have eTest Suite. It's better to work in a consistent environment where everybody has the same version because you will ensure compatibility of scripts and configuration settings, it will be easier to maintain your environment, and it will be easier to troubleshoot computer problems since you should all have the same configuration.
e-Test Suite 7.0 may not be supported since it's older than two releases than the current one, even if the script work with e-Test Suite 7.0 I would look for the upgrade.

    Zuriel

  • Mavericks: Can I stop these heavy handed tactics?

Can I stop Apple's/Mavericks' heavy handed tactics when it comes to sofware updates? I am annoyed. Here is what I am talking about.
I think I have the right to decide if, and when, I install an update without being harrassed. I am not concerned abou the Time Machine nag partially depicted because I can simply dismiss it.

Please send feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
The only way to avoid these updates is to actually perform the requested update.
However, you can work around the problem. Make sure to archive the software you currently have. That is always a good idea, by the way, even with the Mac App Store. Then, perform the update. Next, copy the new version of the software that you don't want (let's call it "Pages") to some obscure place on your hard drive or permanently connected volume. Now, use LauncPad to officially delete the software. Finally, copy the old version into /Applications.
Since the old version has the correct receipt, it will work normally. Since the new version is on the hard drive, you will no longer be nagged about updating. The old version is in LaunchPad so that is the one you will launch. If necessary, you can set your document types to only open with the old version.
