I cannot download a pdf - instead of downloading, firefox takes me to a map of my computer to select an application - I do not understand!

when I click on a link on a web page, and it is a pdf, I get taken to a list of my own hard drive, and am asked to select an application. I have to use safari to download anything!

Firefox doesn't display PDF files, it needs to be told which program you want used to open PDF files. See this:

  • Internet Explorer cannot download Firefox/Support/2.6.8.exe

    IE8 cannot download Firefox file. It does not give me the Run/Download option, it just attempts to open it initially and stops before it gets to this screen. (It also does the same thing for MSN Explorer when I tried that instead and won't save any of my IE settings, Windows problem not Firefox)
    I think that I need to change a setting on the computer or on Internet Explorer in order to download anything. It's not a case of where to download from.

    I see you have just updated your original question, it is better to reply to an answer rather than update the original question, it makes it easier to see the updates.
    Since the problem is with IE, you would be better off asking in a forum that specializes in Microsoft products. You can try asking in the Internet Explorer forum at [http://eileenslounge.com/ Eileen's Lounge].

    I cannot download firefox. I own the puter. I am the adminis-trator. I never gave it a password. It will not let me run as administrator or as my name. pls help. The "run as pop-up box says: You may not nave the necessary permissions to use all the features of the program you are about to run. You may run this program as a different user or continue to run the program as the current user. Un-filled circle:Current User (HpDV6)Annie Erker. Filled-in circle:Run this program as the following user: User Name(prepopulated):Administrator. Password; OK; cancel

    Sounds like then maybe a "friend" got hold of your phone and set a SIM card password.  Not much you can do if that is the case if you do not know the password except go to your carrier and request a new SIM card.

  • Help! I have downloaded Firefox 4 on my Mac which is running OS 10.4.11 and it will not open. It has displaced my previous Firefox 3 . How can I recover previous Firefox (and all my tabs)?

    I have downloaded Firefox 4 on my Mac which is running OS 10.4.11 and it will not open. It has displaced my previous Firefox 3. How can I recover my previous Firefox (and all my tabs?)

    Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
    If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

    Most people have no problems with installing firefox as an upgrade, but there are quite a few things that can cause problems. Please have a look at the articles
    * [[software Update Failed]] <-- clickable link (blue ) --
    * [[firefox will not start]]
    * [[firefox does not work]]
    Post back after you read them and say what you tried. Have you ensured you used an admin account, possibly needing to check the UAC setting, and that security software is not blocking the changes. You should certainly try starting in firefox's [[safe mode]] either from a menu/icon option or by holding the shift key as you attempt to run firefox.
    Is the browser icon you see on the desktop, and a firefox icon ?

  • Cannot download firefox

    I am a longtime user of firefox. 2 days ago when opening the browser, immediately msg told me program was not working asking me to close the program, which I did. finally uninstalled firefox, in order to reinstall.....now IE tells me it downloaded, I go to downloads, tells me it is finished....but nothing happens, even when going to the download folder....
    CANNOT INSTALL AFTER 'RUN' PROGRAM.
    CANNOT EVEN RUN TROUBLESHOOTER APLIC.

    Hi PlanetPrisoner , try to boot the computer in [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows Safe mode with network support] (press F8 on the boot screen) and then see if that helps to download and install firefox from the next link (full installer) :
    * https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
    Most often, issues like that are caused by a firewall or/and security software which doesn't recognize new Firefox (and for that blocks the new firefox version). You have to remove all program rules for firefox from your firewall and let it detect the new version of the browser again.{In windows safe mode with networking, security software is disable}
    thank you

  • What do I do if I cannot download mac osx due to no space on my computer?

    I cannot download Mac OSX due to not enough space on my computer. What do I do to
    create space?

    Free up space.
    Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
    You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
    You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
    Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • What's the easiest way to transfer Firefox to a PC that cannot download Firefox?

    My work computer runs IE, and I want to instead use Firefox for my web browsing. However, there is an admin block on my computer that won't allow downloads of executable files. Is there a way to get Firefox on my work computer by downloading the file at home, putting it on a USB drive, and then running the file on my work computer? Any help would be appreciated.

    Yes,
    Use the link below to download Firefox from home.
    [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ Download Firefox]
    Then if you want to transfer some or all of your Firefox data from home, you can use MozBackup

    I would like to download Firefox 4. I get an error message during download saying it is incompatible with my operating system and that it needs OS X 10.5 or 10.6 but I AM using 10.5.8, so what might be the problem?

    You can also check the following:
    * Your modem and/or router are both on and are not indicating errors. The problem may be with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Contact your ISP for more information.
    * If you are using a wireless connection, that you are using the correct access point.
    * Your Domain Name System (DNS) server translates web addresses (URLs) into IP addresses and is usually provided by your ISP. If the DNS server is overloaded, you may be unable to view some or all websites. For example, if http://74.125.53.99 or http://74.125.159.105 work but http://www.google.com doesn't, you may have a DNS problem. You can use an alternative service such as OpenDNS (http://www.opendns.com/) or Google Public DNS (http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/).
    * Whether your Internet security software (including firewalls, antivirus programs, anti-spyware programs, and more) is blocking connections to the Internet. For instructions on how to configure some programs, see the Firewalls article (https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firewalls).
    Check and tell if its working.
