I cant pair my iphone 5c to my macbook pro via bluetooth why is that?

Ive tried several time to pair my phone to my laptop but it wont pair, it says "failed" or "unsuccessful" pair and i want to know why.
I first noticed when i was trying to connect my phone to use it as a remote for keynote but it wouldn't connect.
then i tried an app called "remote mouse" and that wouldn't connect to my laptop either after following all the instructions.
I can easily Airdrop stuff back an forth. thats not a problem.
I see my iphone on my mac when searching for devices in Bluetooth but it won't pair.
I changed the settings in keynote to enable a remote.
I've changed my system preferences under "Security & Privacy" to allowed  "Keynote"and "RemoteMouse" access to control my computer. did nothing.
My main concern is getting to work my iphone as a remote for Keynote
Iphone 5c
iOS 8.1.3
Macbook pro
I have Yosemite 10.10.2

The iPhone and Mac do not BT pair with the one exception of BT tethering.
The Keynote remote feature uses WiFi. See this support article for information: Using Keynote Remote - Apple Support
if you are still using the Keynote remote App (which is no longer in the App Store) see this article:

  • HT3887 why oh why can I not transfer my own photos from my own iPhone to my own macbook pro via bluetooth? This is so antiquated!

I have an iphone that I use to take pics and just wondered why don't Iuse bluetooth instead of plugging it in each time...only to find apple won't let us do this. Is this still true? Seems like madness and a good reason to change...

I have tried bump but it insists on location recognition before it will work properly. Maybe I am paranoid but I think they have enough info about me already....
    I shall keep looking.
Thanks guys for all your input.

  • Hi. Can I connect my iphone 4 with my macbook pro via bluetooth? Thanks

It will be great if you can connect your mobile phone to your computer right? Easy file transferring and no cable needed.

You can't, file transfer by bluetooth is not supported.

  • Can't pair iPhone 5s with Macbook Pro via Bluetooth

I have an iPhone 5s and Macbook Pro with retina display (running on iOS 8.0.2 and Yosemite respectively). For some reason, my iPhone can never see my MBPr but the MBPr can see the iPhone. Pressing the "Pair" button on in the Bluetooth setting panel in OS X will trigger the pairing confirmation to show up on my iPhone. After confirming the pair request, the devices remain connected for no more than 2 seconds. Then they just disconnect. (The status is "Not connected" underneath my iPhone on the Devices list in OS X)
This has been bugging me for a while, even before I upgraded to iOS 8 and Yosemite. I was hoping the upgrade will solve the issue but apparently not. My iPad  on the other hand has no problem in connecting and remaining connected to my MBPr. That's just baffling.
Just some context: the reason why I wanted to connect my MBPr and my iPhone via Bluetooth is because I want to use my my iPhone as the hotspot. Yes, I can use the USB cable, but can't blame me for trying the wireless route (And no, connecting via wifi doesn't  work)
    Any help is appreciated!

I'm trying to pair my iPhone 4 with my MacBook Pro and it is saying my MacBook Pro is not supported. I just bought this thing and it's telling me that it isn't supported???

    Do you mean Bluetooth?
If you are trying to activate your iPhone you need to use iTunes.
There's no need to "pair" an iPhone with a Mac. Syncing, restoring, backing up, apps/ music / photos etc., is all done with iTunes.

  • How can i pair my iPhone 5s to my MacBook Pro on yosemite

i cannot pair my iPhone 5s to my Macbook pro. i recently upgraded to Yosemite, and was quite excited to use the new handsoff feature. To discover that the 2 devices would not pair. How exactly would handsoff work? A wifi connection, or bluetooth? i'm not the only one having this issue; it seems to be something we're all experiencing. it's a silly issue to have you ask me, or is there something I am doing wrong?

First, verify that the Mac is capable of using Handoff. Hold down the option key and select System Information... from the Apple menu. In the System Information window, select Bluetooth from the list on the left. Near the top of the summary of "Hardware, Features, and Settings," you should see this line:
              Handoff Supported: Yes
Follow the instructions in this support article. All the devices using Handoff must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If the Mac also has an Ethernet connection, disconnect the Ethernet cable.
If Handoff still doesn't work, on the mobile device, turn Handoff off and back on as directed in the linked article. On the Mac, turn Bluetooth off and back on. You might have to restart a mobile device to get it working.

  • Is it possible to transfer photos, files from iphone 5s to macbook pro via bluetooth?

Before I got the iphone 5s, I was using a Nokia phone.  I was able to transfer photos, files from my Nokia phone to macbook pro via bluetooth connections.  It was very simple and POSSIBLE (even though apple support staff said it was not possible to do so).  My macbook pro does NOT need to be paired with Nokia phone as long as it can DISCOVER the nokia phone and vice versa.
Hence, after i got the iphone 5s recently, I'd expected both devices (iphone 5s and macbook pro) to communicate and connect via bluetooth as easily as Nokia phone.  However, I was disappointed to find out the iphone 5s kept "searching" for discoverable device even though my macbook DISCOVERED the iphone!!  Thus, I was NOT able to transfer any files from these two devices.
Any apple technical people care to explain why BOTH are apple products cant work?  A Nokia phone and macbook can.  Very strange, isn't it?

Althought, you can use bluetooth to transfer photos, files from iPhone to Macbook,However,it is so slowly,if you want to quickly copy photos/files from iPhone to Mac,you can use tools or software to help you, such as iStonsoft iPhone to Mac Transfer,This is a very professional tool,Hope this helps!

The pics came fro your computer in the first place.  They should still be there and you should always have a backup copy.

I have been trying to use the new handoff feature, and been trying to connect and pair my mac with my new phone. • Why can't I pair my Iphone 5 with my Macbook pro?

I tried to bluetooth my phone to my Macbook pro and it will not pair. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

What do you want to do after pairing?
If what you want is to stars Sync, they have to be on the same WIFI, bluetooth i think it's only if you want to use your Iphone5 as Internet Port
Also, Apps like Remote and Spotify, using your iphone as "remote control" it's via Wi-Fi

  • My iPhone 5 doesnt see my MacBook Pro via Bluetooth

Anyone have any idea or steps or fixes to my bluetooth issue? While at the office, I was trying to tether my MacBook Pro to my iPhone 5 via bluetooth. My MacBook will see my phone, I attempt to pair, PassCode comes up on both devices, numbers match, but then my phone will say " The Bluetooth network is unavailable.  There was an error connecting to your device's network. Make sure network access is enabled and available on your device" . I have checked my WFI network, Bluetooth network, and Personal Hotspot - Everything is set to "on" - I have reset the network connections on my phone - and I have also restarted my MacBook and reset the PRAM (press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys) but no change... this is quite frustrating.
    HELP Please....

  • Trouble connecting iphone 5s to macbook pro via bluetooth

My MBP (OS 10.10) and iPhone 5S (iOS 8.0.2) (both late 2013) do not connect via bluetooth.
I want to use Handoff and file transfer between them, which is why I am trying to connect them.
    Steps taken:
    1) I pair the devices here:
    2) My phone says that they are not supported (see below)
Sometimes they connect for about 30 seconds, but then disconnect.
    What should I do?

Found a solution on this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5458?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Check the following settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
Make sure your iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and comparing the name of the network each is on.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
Go to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps and make sure Handoff is on.
Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
Check the following settings on your Mac:
Go to the Wi-Fi icon at the top of your screen and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
Make sure your Mac and iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi on your iOS device and compare the name of the network with the Wi-Fi network on your Mac.
Go to the Bluetooth icon at the top of your screen and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
In System Preferences > General, select “Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.” If you don't see this setting, your Mac may not support Handoff.
Open the FaceTime app, go to FaceTime > Preferences and turn on “iPhone Cellular Calls.”
Go to System Preferences, and sign out and then sign in again to your iCloud account.

  • Hi, there! My iPhone 4S refuses to connect with my MacBook Pro, via Bluetooth... Any tips?

I start the whole process as indicated. Then, my MacBook Pro recognizes my iPhone 4S and starts the pairing. But when I try to pair my iPhone w/ my MacBook, the 4S indicates "the connection failed", and also says "the MacBook Pro isn't compatible"!
Please, if you could help me I'd really appreciate. Tks!

The Syncing process is via iTunes... not Bluetooth...

  • Iphone connecting to MacBook Pro via bluetooth

I have paired my iPhone to my MacBook Pro and selected bluetooth sharing. Although paired, for some reason, they will not connect. Any Ideas

Apple sells a bluetooth app to connect your iphone to use it as a clicker for Keynote.
    No they don't.
Maybe you should actually read the product description? You know, where it clearly tells you Keynote Remote works over Wi-Fi.
If apple makes me pay for the ** thing, I think it should work.
They didn't make you pay for it. You chose to. And it does work perfectly. Unfortunately, you didn't bother to read the description of it before buying it, did you?
