I Couldn't Figure it Out - ORA-12514

I tried to connect to my local Oracle 10g DB via TOAD, i get this error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
What can i do?
My host is localhost.

ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor Cause: The listener received a request to establish a connection to a database or other service. The connect descriptor received by the listener specified a service name for a service (usually a database service) that either has not yet dynamically registered with the listener or has not been statically configured for the listener. This may be a temporary condition such as after the listener has started, but before the database instance has registered with the listener.
Action:
- Wait a moment and try to connect a second time.
- Check which services are currently known by the listener by executing: lsnrctl services <listener name>
- Check that the SERVICE_NAME parameter in the connect descriptor of the net service name used specifies a service known by the listener.
- If an easy connect naming connect identifier was used, check that the service name specified is a service known by the listener.
- Check for an event in the listener.log file.

Go into compositionReady and have 3 variables you will be able to set them like this
strike1 = 0;
strike2 = 0;
strike3 = 0;
So on the wrong item click have
if(strike1 == 0) {
PLAY STRIKE1 ANIMATION
strike1 = 1;
else if(strike2 == 0) {
PLAY STRIKE2 ANIMATION
strike2 = 1;
else if(strike3 == 0) {
PLAY STRIKE2 ANIMATION
strike3 = 1;
So this will make it so when the wrong item is clicked each strike will be played in order.
Random Scrolling -
You should look into the Math.Random function to make things random in edge.
This is an example of the Random function. It will generate a random number up to 100.
var random = Math.floor (Math.random () * 100);
Lose Screen Score -
So we can create another variable in compositionReady for the lose score.
score = 0;
Now when the user gains a point to add to the score you could do this code on the click
score++;
which would add 1 to the score, However you can add however much you like to the score doing "score + 2" and so on.
To edit a text with the score at the end which I'm assuming you will want to do you will use .html
so $("Text").html("You score is " + score);

Even a hired Flash Technician couldn't figure this out! (button/AS2/link issue)

I bought a template online, same as half the people on here needing help. I managed most modifications myself and even some swag. But one of the links entitled "more" is correct on the first page but then in AS2 appears to be a duplicate on the 4th page. I want the one on the 4th page to link to an imported .png file. When you click a veiw more link an animation slides the page that is linked open. There are 8 working pages in the site 5 of which seem to be the core pages. I want to add a ninth page that is actually a .png file and have the "more" link link to it and animate to it. Can anyone help me figure this out. I've put in over 230 hours on this template and am feeling like it'll never get finished!!

You should hire another Flash designer to help you figure it out... either that or go back to where you bought the template and see if they offer editing services for a fee.

How do I find missing/lost bookmarks I tried the trouble shooting section i just couldn't figure it out

I had a bookmark folder & decided to add two more. When I went to my folders I could only find one new folder. When I clicked on it, it brought me to the second new folder. I couldn't get all three to appear under the bookmarks section. I retitled them because two of the three bookmarks had the wrong bookmarked items & then I lost the third, which had all the original bookmarks.
I've tried your trouble shooting section, I don't understand all of the information. I have been through the trouble shooting section several times trying different options. I've gotten myself so frustrated & confused :( I'm hoping for a little one on one help.

Now look at what you have and keep the best ones 
There are limits to what may be restored, depending on what you have done and deleted, but once you have taken the action above you have preserved whatever is there.
You can now try restoring any of the automated backups that Firefox has made for you (By default each of the last ten days). But take CARE any restore overwrites and destroys existing ones (unless it is from an HTML file then it is appended ). Always backup by exporting before you do a restore.

Why can't any one figure this out!!!

I am going insane racking my brain. I have posted this in MANY different forums, including all over the place in here, and not only does no one understand whats going wrong but they have NO idea how to fix it.
THIS IS WHAT I DID. I didn't realize I was using a rare font to make the menu in my website. The link is ShoresHatesMe.com its for a comedian who employed me to create it. So I made each menu item a small image and hyperlinked it to the appropriate page.
In my preview in browser it looks perfect. so I posted it, and its all messed up on every page!

I can't figure out whats going wrong here. But i keep trying to fix it and I can't figure it out! And since no one else can either its killing me. You do not need to move your cursor much when pressing the mouse button to cause the tab to tear-off/tear-away into a new tab. No "sensitivity" setting that I am aware of. The tab in the new window can be dragged back to the original window.

While connecting "sqlplus SYSADM/SYSADM@HCM" I am getting the below error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
Installation background:
Windows 7 l(64-bit) laptop.
Created linux virtualbox to installl peoplesoft VM templates.
so far installed: Oracle11gR2.vdi and HCMDB.vdi on the linux virtualbox.
Followed the steps exactly what it is in the link below: Got the above error in page 4 of the link at connecting to database via sqlplus.

My guess is that the database service "HCM" is not up and running but not sure how to make up and running. Even I could not find it listed in the linux services list.
Note: Able to login sqlplus using "sqlplus sys/sys as sysdba" but failing to access database table as "select * from PSRECDEFN;"

I have no luck and the error still persists.
I have set the "export ORACLE_SID=HCM" from root user and oracle user too.
I guess, I have already loaded database when I ran the "cd /opt/oracle/psft/vm

DB nonresponsive with ORA-12514 after weeks of running fine

I have seen many prior users complain about getting ORA-12514 after a reboot after installation, and looking at the suggestions, I couldn't find anything addressed a situation where the whole system works for a long period of time and then stops working.
I have a working APEX installation that I can access over the web from remote clients
I have a working JDBC connection that I can use from several remote clients.
After several weeks/months of happily running, I no longer can access the apex website, and I can no longer access the db through the JDBC connection getting:
ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
descriptor
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
//###.###.###.###:1521/XE
Going to look at Windows services, both OracleServiceXE and OracleXETNSListener are still running. To try and recover, I do the following:
* Stop the db and start the db. (Which simply stops OracleServiceXE, and then starts both it and the listener)
Doesn't fix it
* Thinking that the listener might be the problem, I then stop the db, and also manually stop the listener. I then start both of the services
Doesn't fix it
* I reboot the computer
Fixes it.
What is different about rebooting the computer that could possibly fix this? Also, someone had suggested in another thread to look at the listener log in db_1/network/admin/listener.log. I don't know what db_1 is, but I have a oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN directory that does not have this log. If anyone has any insight into what this is, or what log I should look at to identify it, I would be greatly appreciative.

Ah, the alert log, that is a useful find. For those who don't know, you can find where the alert log is stored by doing the following:
select value from v$parameter where name = 'background_dump_dest';
I looked at the alert log, and i think it indicates that the process is running out of memory. Since it can run for a very long time without this, I'm assuming it's some kind of memory leak. Especially since I think the less I develop pages with APEX, the longer the system goes between crashing (That is only anecdotal). I looked at the .trc files that it spit out as well, but they seem to have internal stack traces and dumps. Where do I go from here? Is this something I post to an Oracle bug list? Suddenly getting ORA-12514

I am parsing an XML file and trying to store data into oracle 10g.
My connection string is :
Connection c = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:Oracle-DB","scott","tiger");
But suddenly I am getting error like ORA-12514. below is the stack trace for the same.

Please in the future, first of all look up the error message in the online documentation, even before posting this error yet again, showing you didn't try to figure out what happened.
The error message implies
service_name in tnsnames.ora != service_name of the database.
Make sure both service_names match.

Hyperion startup error -ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

Hi All,
While restarting the hyperion service we see this exception. Nothing was changed on the hyperion server. Checking with DB team if anything was change on their end.
Caused By: weblogic.common.ResourceException: weblogic.common.ResourceException: Could not create pool connection. The DBMS driver exception was: Listener refused the connection with the following error:ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

We don't have oracle client on our end, so this is not a tnsnames issue. This is preventing all the hyperion services coming up.

The listener is up , the message is from the listener indicating the listener does not know of SID/SERVICE name that you are giving it. Manually connect to the db using sqldeveloper in order to make sure the parameters you are providing are working. Pay special attention to SID vs SERVICE_NAME. Then try to open config tool and go back to your database connection info. Reconfigure your database connection. It will likely you will find your connection error there. Also sometimes the config tool has trouble figuring out whether you mean SID or SERVICE_NAME. You can open advanced properties on the connection in configtool and specify / or : in the url.
