I'd like the MRU Tab history to be preserved across sessions.

Most Recently Used (MRU) tab history used to be preserved across sessions, if my memory serves, so reopening a session was almost like you hadn't left it. Now with hundreds of tabs its hard to pick back up and proceed as if uninterrupted. The loss of MRU tab history is a tremendous reduction in usefulness.
Is there any hope this will be restored?
Is there anything to do to increase the chances of it being restored?
Are there any extensions that will restore the MRU tab history form the pression session when a session is reopened?

Current Firefox versions only store a maximum of 10 entries of tab back history as part of stored session data in the sessionstore.js file.
So you lose tab back history beyond those ten entries when you use "Show my windows and tabs from last time" to restore open tabs on the next start.
The default is 10 and a value of -1 will disable this maximum and allows to keep all back history entries.
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

See the description of pref(s) in this file (open via the location bar):

<pre><nowiki>// number of back button session history entries to restore (-1 = all of them)
pref("browser.sessionstore.max_serialize_back", 10);
// number of forward button session history entries to restore (-1 = all of them)
pref("browser.sessionstore.max_serialize_forward", -1);</nowiki></pre>

  • What happend to the per tab history button?

I upgraded to Firefox 4 and noticed the per-tab history button which if you clicked on it would list all the sites that had been visited in that individual tab and would allow you to quickly select a site and go back to it has been removed! It was on the left of the tab bar just to the left of the "<" button and it looked like how the current "List all tabs" button looks. This feature was SO useful, now if I want to go and see all the sites I visited in a tab historically I must keep clicking the back arrow button which is much less efficient. Developers PLEASE ADD THIS BACK!!!

Click-hold or right-click the Unified Back / Forward button to see the "history" in that tab. Or, you can install this extension which restores the drop-marker arrow. <br />

  • I do not like the new tab location in 4.0. It is at the top. Is there any way to get the tabs to show up at the old location? I have since went back to 3.6.17.

I like the old tab location that is the same as IE8. Anyway to get the old tab location with 4.0?

Right click a blank part of the Tab bar and then click "Tabs on top" to remove the checkmark. Tabs will appear beneath the location bar afterwards.
You can also click the top option called Menu Bar to reinstate the text links at the top.

  • How can I import all of my bookmarks and not just some of the like the import tab does?

I tried to import my bookmarks but it took only a few bookmarks and left most of my list behind. I tried the import from IE many times and get the same result so how can I get all my bookmarks moved over?

If you have problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):<br>File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox:<br>Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML: From File

  • How can I open just one of my several homepages in the current tab? You can in Internet Explorer but can only open all at once in lots of tabs with Firefox?!?

Within Internet Explorer you can click on a little arrow next to the homepage icon and a dropdown appears with a list of your homepages (I have 5). So if I want to quickly check my facebook or e-mail I can click on it and then on whichever I want to visit (both are homepages). It is much quicker than using bookmarks/typing it in and I don't like the 'permanent tab' feature as I don't want them always open. Does this feature already exist?

You can create a folder with the home pages by using "Bookmark All Tabs" to open a specific page.
You can place that folder on the bookmarks toolbar or use the Bookmarks menu button that you can find in the toolbar palette to get access to that folder easily.
    * Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
    * "Bookmark All Tabs" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of a tab on the tab bar.
    * "Bookmark This Page" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of that browser page.

  • In FF 7.0.1, the New Tab button on the Tab Strip disappeared after clicking the Tab Group icon and trying to return, so I'm looking for advice on how to get the New Tab to reappear on the Tab Strip.

In Windows Vista, FF 7.0.1, I selected the Tab Group button to try it out. However, when I selected the Tab Group button again to close that view, the New Tab button in the Tab Strip no longer appears. I'm requesting help to restore the New Tab button (has the "+" sign on it) on the Tab Strip just to the right of the currently open tabs.

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.<br />
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
If you can't find the New Tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.

  • I accidentally managed to delete the "New Tab" from the Navigation tool bar and I can't get it back. Can you help?

I wanted to rearrange to Navigation toolbar and accidentally deleted the "Add new tab" from it. I now have the "Stop loading this page", "Reload current page" and "Home" buttons, but the new tab button is gone! I checked the "Customize" panel, but it's vanished from there too. All that's there is a "Open in a new window" tool. I'm aware that i can open a new tab just by clicking the plus next to the open tabs or Ctrl+T, but I'm used to doing it with the actual button, so I'd be grateful if you could help me.
    Thanks :)

  • Why is the Application Tab so different from the rest of iTune?

It feels like the Applications tab is not from Apple. Is it done by a outsourcing company in China? There is no consistency between this tab with the rest of iTune. Is there a design theme across all parts of iTune? Why there is no list view for the Apps?
One thing I miss much is the ability to check off an App so that it will not sync to my iPhone. The same way that I can decide with song go to my iPod. Since the iPhone only has 144 slot for applications, it is important to have such selection ability. The other thing I miss is the rating. I'd like to rate the applications so that if I have purchased more than one version of the same kind of app, I can choose which goes to my iPhone based on my own rating. I also want to be able to sort the Apps by category in the list view. How about folders that each corresponds to one page on the iPhone? The way to reorganize the Apps icons is just a pain after you have more than a few pages.

    Hi LaiPod
These are good suggestions, I suggest sending feedback to apple via: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • Not all songs from an artist are available in the artist tab as some songs are from compilation albums. is their any fix for this?

In the Artist tab, I am unable to see all the songs I have for that artist under their name. It looks like the artist tab is organised by album artist so therefore any artist I have on a compilation album can only be found under various artists. Is there any way around this, cause its the only thing thats ******* me off about the new ITunes.

I used to have this problem.
First, you need to go back on iTunes
you need to go to each of the songs that are having this problem
Click the album so all the songs drop down
Right click the songs that have this problem
    Click ' Get info '
Click the tab that says " info '
The box that says ' album artist ' should probably be empty (correct me if I'm wrong)
Click it and type the artist of the entire album, NOT the songs guest artist
    as such,
    ARTIST
    JAY-Z Feat. Justin Timberlake
    ALBUM ARTIST
    JAY-Z
These should be separate for each artist
If you write the same album artists for each song by that artist, all the songs should be on 1 album

  • I have installed Firefox 4 but the "New Tab" button has disappeared. I have searched toolbars etc. but can't see it. Any ideas, please?

My "New Tab" button has disappeared off the toolbar. I have searched the toolbar menus and "Customise Toolbar" but it's just not there. Back, Forward, Stop and Reload buttons are all there.

  • Why was the "new tab" button option removed from the "customize toolbar" set?

Back in 3.x and older I was able to place a "open new window" button, and an "open new tab" button on the bookmarks toolbar. This worked well for me. Now with 4, the "open new tab" is unavailable, and you can only open a new tab using the default button right next to your already open tabs.
Any chance of that open new tab button coming back? I'd rather use that (what I am used to) than the new one.
They're called options, stop removing them.

  • How can I turn off the new "tabs on top" layout of the new Firefox?

    Dear Mozilla,
Te be honest I was very comfortable with the old Firefox layout and really don't like the new 'Tabs on Top' layout. It's one of the main reasons I hate Chrome.
Is there any way I can turn it off? I haven't been able to find it.
If not, can you direct me to a download page for the previous version of Firefox.
    Thanks and bets regards,
    Chris

I can't help but agree with you, Chris. Computer interfaces are usually analogues for the physical world and it seems that most of the just-newly-adult population has forgotten what GUI cues are meant to be - your mention of tabs' appearing on top is a case in point.
Has the just-newly-adult population forgotten manila folders? You know - those light-cardboard folders that you put pad paper and documents inside; ones that you slip into a filing cabinet, long-edge down, with TABS showing along the now top edge, so that you can read what they contain. Indeed, have you looked, people, Mozillians, at the symbol universally used for File/Windows Explorer? A manila folder!
The edges of manila folders are the tabs that ....wait for it, signify what they contain or represent. Simple. Similarly the just-newly-adult population may have forgotten tabbed diaries. 'Calendar books' with tabs down the opening side that let you select a page somewhere in the diary with information in it described by words or symbols on its tab. Simple!
Tabs should be attached, indeed, be part of, with NO separation from, the pages to which they belong, IMVHO.
Simplify the interface, Mozilla, designed according to good real-world principles.
