I'd like to create two separate firefox browsers (school/personal).

Hello, I'm a student and would like to have one firefox browser for personal use (bookmark tabs would be social media, personal email, fun websites, etc), and another browser for school use (school web pages, research sites, etc).
I'm not entirely sure the best way to go about this. I take notes in class and don't want facebook/twitter/etc in my bookmarks toolbar only a click away, and I don't want to use Safari or Chrome to separate my two uses for my MacBook.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Creating two separate Safari Browsers on the Desktop..... Can It be done?

I would like to set up Safari so there are two Safari browsers on the desktop. One for me & one for dad. Dad uses IE but would love for him to use Safari & the cool new "Top Sites" feature & such, but I of cause don't want to loose all my settings in the process.
Can this be done? What if I install Safari a second time off a separate HD? would that work?

Well, the easiest way that should work would be installing it in two different directories, say C:\Program Files\Apple Safari and C:\Program Files\Apple Safari_Dad, then just making shortcuts with different names to the different folders. I can't guarantee it'll work though.
Although, if you install it on an external drive, that wouldn't work properly.
If you install it on a second HDD that is linked to your PC and runs on the same OS i.e. it is online, and functioning whilst your main HDD is running and doesn't have a separate partition on that other HDD for another OS, then you should be able to install it on that.
Note that the second way (that you suggested, if talking about a secondary internal HDD) would require a desktop computer, not a laptop/notebook.

Separate Apple ID's will result in separate notes. However when you first start with separate ID's unless one of you erases the notes you have, you will both start off with the same set of notes, but from then onwards each set won't sync with each other.

I want to use two separate Lion Time Machine backups and use them to create two separate profiles on one new computer

This is something I need to do temporarily but I must do it.
I have an iMac 27 (end of year 2009) I5. It has 1 TB internal and I want to replace it with a 2 TB internal.
I have time machine backups on an external hard drive that has been connected via Firewire.
I have another iMac (my son's)Imac 24 Intel Core 2 Duo that has it's own separate Time machine backup to it's own separate firewire connected external drive. Both machines are completely up to date with the latest version of Lion and all other necessary software updates.
When the internal hardrive is replaced - I want to use my latest time machine backup to create one profile on the imac and then use my son's latest time machine back up for a second profile. The end goal being to have everything from my current set up ie: apps, documents, itunes, etc existing in one profile and everything in my son's current set up existing in the other profile. We can both be administrators for the time being as well. I should note even though we both have some of the same apps, we both also have other apps that the other does not.
My profile will be using about 900 gigs of total space.
My son's profile will be using about 250 gigs of total space.
This is temporary until the new iMac is released. Then I will want to transfer my profile to that leaving my son's intact on the iMac 27 I5.
I realize that during the temporary period that Time Machine will be making backups of this entire two profile setup, which I am now understanding as I write this will create a new issue for me when I want to transfer only my profile to the new computer as well. But one bridge to cross at a time, I guess.
I need to do this because we must bring his current computer to my father - as his iMac G5 is inoperable. We have been doing this round robin hand me down in our family since IMac DV special edition :-)
Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. And any other suggestions as well.

Hey Shootist000, Thanks for the replies. First off, I am actually okay if we both have each other applications so I am not concerned about that. It is still unclear from what you have said as to whether I can in fact, use these two separte time machine backup to create two separate profiles on the new hard drive. If that in fact can be done, then - will it create two copies of the apps we both have in the ROOT of the drive as well as placing all the ones we each have separately?
And reading your second reply, makes me think that maybe the partition is the way to go to begin with and then down the road - after I am in the new iMac, I could reformat the iMac 27 with only one partion and restore my son's latest back prior to the reformat thus giving him full access to the 2 TB of the drive.
If this is still making sense, does this mean :
replace the 1TB with a 2TB - but have it partitione - 1.5 TB & 500 GB.
Install(Restore using Time Machine) my latest back up prior to the 1.5 partition
Install (Restore using Time Machine) my son's latest back up prior to the 500 gig partition
Lastly, in order for us both to be using the partioned computer - I am assuming Switch user can no longer be used - so would we need to restart and select our respective partions in order to use the computer? And if so, how would we each be able to be using time machine to back up - two separte external hard drives - with each one dedicated to only one partition? Or ?

Legato - creating two separate logs

We are using Legato Networker with Oracle (running on Solaris). I need to find a way to generate TWO separate reports. One for archive logs backups and the other for the actual database backups.
I am using the NSR_RMAN_ARGUMENTS within /usr/sbin/nsrnmo_<ORACLE_SID> file which refers to a file that will store the rman report. However, when archivelogs backup occurs it will overwrite the last database backup. What I need is two report files - one for database and the other for archivelogs.
Is there a way to create two separate reports?

Creating two separate accounts

How does one go about creating two separate mac mail accounts? I want it setup where my wife would log on to her account to retrieve her e-mail and mine where I log on and retrieve my e-mail. I've went to the help section and the way it is set-up now is when I open mac mail all e-mails for both of us are there. I have went to the preferences and followed those directions and it doesn't seem to be working correctly. Any answers. I am sure it's simple and I'm just missing something. Thanks. jonmbaird

If you want to separate @mac.com mail addresses, you will either need to buy an email-only account ($10/year) or another .Mac account ($99/year).
Then, while logged into your OS X account, you can enter your .Mac account information into the .Mac preference pane.
Then, while logged into your wife's OS X account, you can enter her email-only or .Mac account information into the .Mac preference pane.

Can I create two separate wireless networks?

At this time I am using my own wireless router Netgear WNDR3700. Works well.
I would like to add second router (Dlink DIR825) but not as repeater or access point.
Can I connect both directly to to Cat 6 coming from OMT thru the Ethernet switch creating 2 separate networks?
With its own SSID's and use the second network to connect in the garage where my signal is week from the netgear. Is it possible?

I want to create an iPad-Magazine using the DPS. I read all the stuff about the alternate layouts and watched the videos on the channels. Now I ran into what I might call a problem for that I couln't find a solution yet. With my creative cloud membership I can create unlimited app using DPS...but I simply cannot create one app that supports iPad 1&2 + iPad 3 display resolution???

- So if I want one issue of a magazine to be iPad3 compatible then I have to create another app?

- Do I would have to create a diffrent icon for the SD as well as the HD-app so reader could choose in the App Store?
Example: All my apps on my iPad2 of course have 1024x768 but when I recently syncronized the iPad3 with iTunes then I automatically get the update-Info over the App Store icon that I can update the new version of the App optimized for the Retina-Display.
I mean that is a simple feature that nearly all apps are offering. Of course if I would not use the DPS I would have to again hire a developer and pay him for updating my already published app...but at least he could resubmit it supporting both resoutions.
I hope you are getting my point here. That is an important feature that should be build in no matter if I am a Single Edition customer or Business or Enterprise one. If you would do a catalog or something else for your client, he sees that all his apps on his iPad are updating according to his new device. But the catalog app that I did for him not. He would ask why can't you build it that way for me? I would have to explain him: Sorry I cannot create both version in one app, you and your clients have to download two versions of your app if you want to have it look nice. That is not a very good selling argument for me.
I really have to say that if there is no workaround, I am a bit disapointed because it does not make sense to create two seperate apps of the same app. I really would be happy to receive some helpfull advise on how to get both resolutions supported and when that is going to happen or even better...I misinterpreted the whole thing.
And please: NO I don't want to upgrade to business or enterprise edition!

I will try that out. But do you see any chance in the near future that when you create an article out of InDesign, that you can then add multiple layouts with different resolutions? Then I wouldhave one article that contains iPad SD&HD as well as V&H.
So that would be a time saver. Create only one folio that already have the different resolutions covered. I only would have to work with one article inside folio-file for all the devices. Just a thought.

The first is a regular TOC. I have this already. No worries. It contains 3 styles.
The second I want to appear directly after the TOC and be a list of Figures. All my figures are captioned using a style I created, 'caption'.

Can you create two separate tile views for a Promoted Links List

I have lots of pages on my site where i want the effect of the promoted links list tile view. However, i don't want the same links to show up on every spot i use it. Is there not a way to create separate tile views so you can create filtering conditions?
Right now i am stuck having 5 separate lists with 5 items in each because of this limitation. Am i missing something?

There is an easy way to do this.
Add columns to the Promoted Links list.
Add a column named Page.
Type in name of the page on which you would like this link to appear.
Add a column named Row.
Create a view filtered by page name and Row. Example: Show only when Page = HomePage AND Row = 1
Create another view filtered by page name and another Row. Example: Show only when Page = HomePage AND Row = 2.
Go the page you would like the links to appear. Edit the Page.
Add Promoted Links app part (still not used to the app thing) and select your view for Row 1
Add another Promoted Links app part and select the view for Row 2.
Lather, Rinse and Repeat.

I have mistakenly created two separate catalogs, one in 5.6 and one in Lightroom 5 original. The latter is on my external drive, the former is on my hard drive. How do I merge them and upgrade the 5.0 main catalog?

In trying to dump my Elements 10 catalog into my LR catalog, I can see I have mistakenly created a second catalog. My main catalog is on the external drive and remains in the original 5.0 version, the "elements 10 upgraded" was imported into the 5.6 upgrade of LR and is on my hard drive. Can you advise how I can fix this?

OK Jim Hess, that step is done. So on the hard drive, can I now delete:
1. the "extra" LR catalog?
2. the Elements 10 Catalog (which I had previously imported into one of the LR catalogs?
That leaves me with a single catalog on an external drive. The only question is: what about backup catalogs? how do I determine where my "new consolidated" catalog is backing up to?

Under our mailboxes folder, we have created two separate email accounts. How do we create an address book for each email account? (they need to be completely separate from each other)

This is easy. You can do an export (backup) and import of the address book. So get one you like, export it. Create a new one, export it. Now just import the one you want to work with. Just be sure to export it again before you import the other one, in case you have made changes.
I do this for separate mailing lists, etc.

Perhaps this is an easy question but I am relatively new to Macs. I was wondering if there is a way to create 2 separate address books under the same user profile? I have a palm device and a cell phone and i would like to create a separate book just for isyncing with the cell phone since my phone only holds 500 contacts and the palm holds more. I don't need every palm number on the cell. The only way I can see is to create a separate user profile on the iMac. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

You don't have to include every contact in Address Book in the sync - you can choose to sync just a group. So make two groups, one for the palm and one for the mobile phone. A contact can belong to multiple groups. I THINK (you will have to check yourself) you can have different settings in iSync for the different devices, so just associate each group with the appropriate device.
One thing to watch out for - if the synchronising process finds a new contact on one of the remote devices, it will make new contact for it in AB, but it won't add it to the group, so you'll have to do that manually.
