Aside form the limitation of LTE to the 700MHz and 2.1GHz bands (which rules out LTE in Europe I gather, at least as it stands now) the new iPad should let you use a GSM 3g/2g/edge network anywhere. The CDMA Verizon model will only be able to use it's native CDMA radio band in the USA (that radio will be locked to Verizon), but it's international GSM radio is the same as the AT&T model.
Keep in mind though that by far the cheapest option when abroad is to take advantage of free wifi as much as possible (well, that is always the cheapest option, since it is free). I know several people who have taken their wifi-only iPads and iPad2s to Europe and said they did not find the lack of 3G really inconvenient at all as most towns had plenty of free or cheap wifi access all over the place.
And in 3 years, your iPad will be at least 2-3 generations behind, LTE will have already been replaced by 5G or whatever the next new generation of cellular ends up being named (and the "young" kids will be wondering what the heck 3G even means or meant - dang that stuff was from the olden days!), and you can pitch that ancient piece of technology and start things all over again

I would like to replace the file dialog box with a programmable dialog box, that generates its selections from Database Information

Where would be the best place to achieve this?
I have been thinking about these options:
- Modification of the Operator Interface.
- Modification of the Sequence Model.
- Use callbacks to modify the sequence model.
- Use callbacks to modify the Engine (ie the Auto.seq example)
Or combinations of the above.
The biggest requirement I have in developing this project is in the reuse of code and I believe that callbacks in the seq would be the way to achieve this.
But I am not familiar with the usage of callbacks in teststand (yet) and I don't know where to look for information/examples on what I can do with them.
Has anybody done anythin
g similar?

I am trying to replace the operators interface's sequence file dialog box. I am also trying to hide the standard operators interface.
What I am after is to replicate a user experience!
Teststand is being used to replace an ATE written in LV where each of the tests are hardcoded in. The user selected the product and test types from a button based dialog boxes.
I am using TS to overcome all of the limitations of the original ATE, but one of the requirements is the system has to have the same look and feel of the original.
I originally though that I would have to modify an operators interface, but I would prefer not too, and would rather change the process models and use engine and station callbacks.
If I have to change an operatos interface, I would pre
fer if the changes didn't affect the normal running of standard TS sequences.
I have attached the process model, i am trying to achieve, (its in Visio).

Do you mean some of your software does not work in Lion? Do you want to return to using Snow Leopard? If so, then do this:
Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

Can I use my iphone as a hotspot for the new ipad thru Verizon?

I currently own an iphone and have service thru Verizon. Would like to purchase the new ipad. I didn't know if I needed to spend the extra money for the wi-fi-4g cellular (verizon) and have to pay for the service monthly or could I use my iphone as my hotspot? Any advise would be great! Thanks!

Verizon does offer Personal Hotspot (aka "tethering") for the iPhone. You will have pay extra for the service. Contact Verizon to get pricing.

No one here would know when Apple will release the new iPad in your country unless Apple has made an announcement of a future date for the release. I have not seen such an announcement in the press. Apple does not answer questions here.

Will app sizes increase across the board because of the new iPad?

After the release of the new iPad on Wednesday, most apps figure to update their capabilities accommodate the new iPad's boosted resolution. And it appears that this process will result in an appreciable — if not significant — increase in app size. For example, Apple's Find My Friends app has gone from 14MB to 18MB in an update optimized for the new iPad Retina display. GarageBand went from 768MB to 801MB. Obviously, for users who download lots of apps (like me), these app size increases represent a strong argument against purchasing a new iPad with the minimum capacity of 16GB. What do you think?

People seem to be focusing on the size creep in apps, however, this is likely to be functionality driven more than due to the display for most apps. The real driver that I have found wrt storage space is videos. Now with the new display it is likely that people will move more to HD videos from iTunes, etc.. and this will be what drives the increase in storage required.
If your photos are compressed JPEGs then what you'll have to think about is how many videos you want to carry. There is also the possibility that with the new screen resolution that people start to store pictures at higher resolutions also which might drive storage.
Either way HD is a canny move by Apple as it will ultimately drive revenue growth through iTunes ;-)

How you can not see why they wouldn't include it is pretty astounding. Adding 4G+WiFi, new A5X chip for processing.... and the biggest reason to question why it isn't included 'Dictation'- which uses the similar setups for what would be interfacing with Siri... is the reason to wonder why it is not included. Why just have Dictation, which is only useful in Apps that support Texting/Typing? Why exclude it from a device that is being marketed in the company's own Keynote event as a 'Post PC Device' that can be taken and used anywhere... just like a smartphone would be- or even instead of a smartphone?
I think that it would have to be included in an update later on... or unfortunately in a completely separate version at least. The implications of Siri's uses are only at what I would call a Live Beta stage... testing it out on the iPhone, and fine tuning it. With Siri, they could- and should, include it on all of their devices now. But perhaps it is just like the other Apps like iLife, particularly iPhoto, that is in need of further development to support what the iPad can really do.
Siri not on the new iPad... is pretty ridiculous in context. Not a deal breaker, but highly disappointing... and would have ultimately made it a truly separate and NEW iPad as marketed. Add to Siri's development, I can see it being implemented even in simple methods like Apple TV... or perhaps even into the rumored real iOS TV that was claimed to have been 'cracked' in development. Heck...I can even see the uses for it on an iPod!
Basically it boils down to Multifunctionality and integration into and of all Apple devices... so that whichever one buys (if not more than one) operates equally as can be on any other- given the general capabilities or actual limitations of each in comparison.

There is currently no discount available for students for the the new ipad. Its unlikely that you will see the new ipad discounted unil the end of the year. When they do discount it though dont exect it to be more than maybe a 40 dollar discount.

What happened to the gig intenet a.c in the new ipads.

I bought the new airport only to find out my new iphone 5S and the new ipads do not support a/c. Really that was a wasted upgrade. I really thought a USB readable drive would have been a nice feature. The cloud is not always a choice.

Thanks for the replays. I am still disappointed in no USB connection for uploading files. As someone who works for the gov they are not happy with cloud storage or transfer of files. I am also in area that have limited wifi and LTE. The MS office is also a issue. I love my ipad but I see these two issue might force me to drag a laptop around and then I won't need a new pad .
