You use a debit card just like you use a credit card in iTunes. You have to enter the card number, security code and billing address as you would with a credit card when you set up the ID. You can make changes to your payment method in your account at any time.
If you want to create an Apple ID without using a credit card you must first sign out of the Apple ID that you already created in Settings>Store>Your Apple ID.
But ...you will also need another email address now if you already created an Apple ID, because that first email address is now associated with that first ID that you created.
If you do have a debit card, you may just be better off entering that card information into your account and use that now. You don't need to even use the debit card if you can purchase iTunes gift cards and redeem those. I use iTunes gift cards exclusively now instead of using my credit card. -

It sounds like you have a credit card saved to your Apple ID payment information and you would like it to be removed from the account and set the payment method to None. You should be able to do this with the following article:

Update the information that you want to change.
Tap the Done button when you're finished.

Thanks!Open iTunes and navigate to the app store. Select a free app to download. A simple way to do this is to scroll down to the top free apps box on the right hand side, hover your mouse over the first item and click on the free button that appears when you hover over it.
A pop up will open asking you to sign in with your Apple ID click "create new account", click continue to create your account. Check the box to accept the store terms and conditions and click continue.
Enter your email address, password, security question, and date of birth, click continue. Now, you will be asked to provide a payment method. Note now that the last option says "none". -

You contact the seller and ask if that is an acceptable alternative payment. I suspect most will not go for COD as a choice.
You can back a Paypal account with your bank account or with a balance you have deposited with them.But a credit card is the most secure. You can use a prepaid credit card in some situations, but since the possession of a card is also used as a confirmation of creditworthiness, not in every situation. Without a credit card, most online purchasing is closed to you.So are many other daily transactions like renting a hotel room or buying a car. Just remembering my first job out of high school as a bank teller, and making up the paypackets, in cash, for the guys at the Goodyear plant. And my pet dinosaur, Tyrone. *sigh*

Everytime I want to buy a song on itunes it asks me to verify my credit card or put in a gift code. If I ALREADY bought $20 worth of gift codes why do I have to verify my freakin payment information. This is rediculous. Why can't there be a "none" option??

Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free content without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

any ideas ?The purchase of 3rd party apps is handled by Apple thru iTunes only. Apple collects the revenue for the developers keeping 30% of the sales price to cover credit card fees, hosting fees, DRM, collecting and paying applicable sales tax, etc. It isn't possible to charge 3rd party apps to your carrier's monthly bill, and your carrier probably wouldn't be interested in handling this for free if this were possible.

Some people (such as I) ONLY have gift cards for store credit due to far too many reports of credit accounts being hijacked through iTunes and then the account needs to be frozen or cancelled and restarted under a new number.
