I don't take my ipod anywhere anymore except for home use so can i just keep my ipod on a speaker dock that constantly charges?

I don't take my iPod classic anywhere anymore because I listen to music through my iPhone.  I still listen to my iPod at home though through my Sony speakers with a charging dock.
Can I just leave my iPod classic on that dock?  Will the constant charging destroy my iPod and its battery?  Thanks.

No, it will be fine. I have an iPod Photo from 2005 that I keep in my car and it is connected to the stereos dock connector 24/7. The only time I bring it in is maybe once every 6 months when I remember to load new music onto it. There were a few times when I briught it in and used my Classic in the car and left it out there as well, even in the freezing winter temps. never a problem. I also drive that car only once a week.
I did bring it in a few weeks back and spent a few days using it to test the battery. It still lasts as long as it did on battery power as it did when I bought it. The battry icon always shows as charged when connected so it mush have a circuit that prevents the battery from being damaged. My iPod Classic was the same.

    Mike,
I was successful, in a test I just conducted, to get Siri to record your problem statement in a Note file on the iPod as I used the Edit > Speech feature in Safari to play the text. I don't see why dictation wouldn't work as well. Why not give it a try?
If you don't have an iOS device to try this with, you could write your audio file to a CD and use an external player to get audio to the Mac.

  • How do I use my ipod in the car without it constantly charging?  I have to use a docking cable into the USB port because the 3.5 mm to 3.5mm jack I bought doesn't work on the ipod.

How do I use my ipod in the car without it constantly charging?  I have to use a docking cable into the USB port because the 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack I bought doesn't work with the ipod (although it does work with an MP3 player).  My ipod is a 5th generation 80GB classic.

I know this is old - but did you ever get this working. Thinking of getting a 780 ti card and I have an older mac with the mini-displayport too.

    You can't do that.
And before you decide to store any music that you own on a computer at work, talk to your IT department. Many organizations do not permit it for legal reasons. Standard policies are that anything stored on company owned computers is the property of the company. It could not be legally stored on their machines unless you transfer the licenses and all copies, physical and digital, to the company, meaning you no longer own the music. If they were to be audited and could not prove that they own the music, they would be subject to copyright violation penalties. Just use your iPod when you're at the office if you want to listen to music.

In Itunes I don't have a listing in the column for "Devices" so I can check to see if my Iphone can sync all my new ringtones.  I have one ready to go but cannot get it downloaded to my Iphone.  Where is my "Devices" heading in the column on the left side of my Itunes page?

Connect your device to computer.  In iTunes left Pane, select your iPhone under 'Devices'.  Then on th right Pane, select Tones tab.

  • Charging IPod on Klipsch Speaker Docking Station

I leave my IPod on the docking station 24 hours a day so that I don't have to put it on and remove it everytime I want to listen to music even after the battery is fully charged. Am I destroying the battery life by doing this? My battery doesn't seem to last as long anymore. Any suggestions?

As long as you occasionally use it on battery power and drain the power, this shouldn't really be a problem.
These docking stations quit charging once the battery if fully charged, so there is no way this can fry your battery. Can it reduce the battery life, certainly, this is why I'd recommend that you use it on battery occasionally. Always, always running it on AC will eventually take its toll on the battery.

  • Using iPod touch with speaker dock

I put my iPod touch on my speaker dock, and it connects and charges. But, the music just comes out of the iPod and not the speaker. How do I get it to come out of the speaker?

Make sure the iPod is correctly sitting on the dock. I had exactly the same problem with my iPhone. Try moving your iPod around abit while its sitting on the dock, moving it forwards and backwards slightly. Overall your more than likely to have to take your speaker dock back where you bought it from, or buy a new one.

  • I have Itunes on my PC. For some reason, I now have only one song in my library.  I can still access my songs through my hard drive but they don't show up on Itunes anymore.  Any idea how I can fix this?

I have a lot of songs in my Itunes library.  However, for some reason, they have disappeared and I only have one song left.  When I check under My Music, I can see all the songs but can't access them through Itunes.  Any idea why this happended and how I can fix it?

I think I fixed this problem a few years ago by literally copying and pasting all my audio content into the iTunes library folder. I can't remember what is called of the top of my head and I don't know if this will still work.

  • Tried Ipod in new speaker/dock and it's gone blank

My Ipod was working well then I tried it on a new speaker (gear4 houseparty) and it worked perfectly for a couple of hours. Now it's gone completely blank with a grey screen, and the computer/ITunes doesn't recognise it. I've tried the five R's but it seems absolutely dead; no icons, no white screen.

Your iPod is currently carrying very low battery level, and does not manage to get charged by connecting with your computer.
Have a read of the following, hope you can find a way to solve it
Until yesterday, I finally received a 4th Gen 20GB iPod (around 2 years old)from a friend and asked me whether I could fix it for him, which has been left untouched as a paper-weight for almost 2 months.
I tried to turn it on, and the screen was completed blank and the device looked dead. Before doing anything I prepared the following:-
    1. A window based PC
    2. A Mac computer
    3. An USB iPod cable
    4. A Firewire iPod cable
    5. An iPod AC charger
As the iPod was previously formatted on a PC, therefore I tried to plug it with a PC via USB cable, it did not response and not able to get recognized by the PC. I ejected the iPod and connected with an AC charger, after a few minutes, I did a Reset for the iPod
    How to reset iPod
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705
The iPod showed an Apple sign, it stuck there for almost a minute, the screen then showed a battery with an exclamation mark sign, and after a minute, the iPod turned off itself. I was sure that the iPod carried very low battery, and could not be charged by connecting it with any computer (both Mac and PC).
I decided to let it have a charge with an AC charger for a bit longer, after 10 minute I did the Reset again, this time a sign of folder with exclamation mark showed up after the Apple sign, and again could not get recognized by a computer.
I changed my mind, and put the iPod into disk mode
    Putting iPod into disk mode
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Instead of connecting with a PC, I plug it with my Mac using a Firewire cable, it did not response, so I switched the cable to an USB, interestingly, the iPod got recognized and a window pop up indicating that the iPod needed to do a Restore. Therefore I clicked “Restore”, after a few seconds, an Error message pop-up with Error Message 1417, the sign that I have been waiting for quite sometime.
I ejected the iPod and the screen immediately showed a folder exclamation mark (a sign indicating a corrupted or a failure iPod OS). I am forced to put the iPod into disk mode again, connected with the Mac computer and open the Disk Utility
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
It managed to complete the Restore process, and started to sync with the iTunes. However, it got stuck at the song no.238 from the total of 2000. I left it for an hour, but with no process, instead the iPod became “Hot” and the iTunes showed an Error message of 1428. I ejected the iPod from my Mac computer, the iPod’s screen turn to show the famous killer icon;“The Sad iPod“.
This time it was totally dead, even failed to put it into Disk Mode and non of the computer could recognize it. Sigh, I hated to do it but I knew that I must did the following:-
Holding the iPod in my Palm, and hitting it on a surface of a Sofa with 5 attempts.
Did not surprise me, the iPod turned on and it showed the Language Menu on the screen. So, I put it into Disk Mode and connected with my window PC.
The PC showed a sign and indicated that an USB device had been connected with it. I opened the iTunes and did a Restore there.
However, an Error Message 50 showed up, but I were not worried about it, connected it back with my Mac computer with it in Disk Mode. As expected the iTunes opened and allowed me to do a Restore there.
This time it managed to complete the process and a window of register pop up. After the completed the process, the iPod started to sync with the iTunes again, which finally managed to complete the process.
I left it connecting with the AC charger overnight. In the next morning, I switched it on and have a play with it, I am so glad as it is working like a charm.
From the above experience, I would like to share it with the user the following:-
    1. It always better to charge with an ac charger instead of the computer, as when an iPod carrying with very low battery, it may not able to get charge from a computer
    2. Try to connect the iPod with a computer, switching between USB and Firewire
    3. Try to format an iPod with HD problem, with a different kind of computer e.g. Mac or PC, as the formats are totally different, the way it formats may able to solve the bad sectors on the HD
    4. It may get better chance to get your iPod recognized, if you put it in Disk Mode
I hope the following works in your case as I did.

  • Firefox always crashes when I'm on a certain Yuku site. I don't have a problem with anyother site that I visit except for Yuku. What can I do to fix this problem?

My computer does not have any viruses, I have already tried to uninstall and reinstall firefox, but I still get the same problem.
After inquiring with an administrator on Yuku, they said the only reason would be a virus that may come through the adds on the site, but the specific page I visit on yuky is add-free.
I don't know what to do. This does not occur with any other site that I visit.

  • My speaker went out on iphone 5 so apple sends me a new one, it says if there is water damage to my old one they will charge me retail price. I don't know if there is but if they do find damage can I just get my old one back and send them theirs back?

If anyone could help me with this. I don't have that kind of money, but the thought of maybe my phone has damage I am unaware of and them charging me over 500 dollars is ridiculous
