i dropped it on concrete and i think the hard dri've is broken. how much will it cost to get it fixed? does it really matter if i have a receipt since the product hasn't been on the market for 2 months yet?

You would probably be better off finding a 3rd party repair company to do the job instead. That way you can save a couple of extra dollars. Just do a simple Google search for "iPod headphone repair" and you should get a plethora of results.

it would cost very little as think about it, it uses removable batteries so too many charge cycles can be easily remedied by buying a new battery. Also, although i own a flash player and not the zen xtra so cannot verify this, it uses standard 2.5" laptop hardri'ves that are not modifyed to not work outside of the player like in the Muvo2, so that is also easily replaceable. So the two most common casues of HDD mp3 player deaths have already been dealt with. If something else brekas and you are out of warranty ibelieve you have to buy a whole new unit.

What MichelPM suggested is the SAFEST solution. Firefox is a better browser than Safari, and you will not be faced with any potentially crippling consequences of a full OS update.
You will presumably have to update your system at some point, and you should prepare for that by maintaining a full, up-to-date backup of your current main system on an external hard drive. You can use SuperDuper ($25) or Carbon Copy Cloner (the legacy version, 3.5.7) to clone your current system to an external drive. This drive will be bootable and will provide you will a safety net if you decide to install Yosemite at some point.

When you fail to give information on the exact model MBP that you have, how do you expect anyone to provide you with any specific information?
I suggest that you go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com and look for parts and prices. That naturally assumes that you know what parts are defective and need to be replaced.

There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". It is also possible to purchase parts and find instructions on doing a repair yourself, though it's not particularly easy. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPod serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform a repair yourself, all further support from Apple will be void.

Oh yes, I have done that all ready, even tried to do the safe mode. I was able to get it to work once, since January 22th, however it involved the changing security permissions and even though Adobe was working well, Windows quit working well. Labview isn't cheap, but it would certainly allow you to build a program (set of vi's - virtual instruments) that would do what you describe. Where would the timecode information come from? Your vi, or program, would: Start up, initialize the serial port, loop until a trigger happened, read the timecode (from where?), output that timecode out the serial port in a loop until you pressed the stop button. There is a free evaluation of Labview software available from NI - the base product itself runs about $995.

To be honest I am not sure. It has not made it into our system yet since none of the players are beyond the -yr warranty anyway. I would imagine (In the US at least) it will be at or around $80 like other similar players, but let me see if I can get some confirmation on that.
