You would probably be better off finding a 3rd party repair company to do the job instead. That way you can save a couple of extra dollars. Just do a simple Google search for "iPod headphone repair" and you should get a plethora of results.

First:- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the others 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

Apple does not repair iPads, but will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee. If you have AppleCare+ on the iPad, the cost will be relatively minimal; $49 in the US. Otherwise, select the appropriate issue on this page:

There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipad repair". You can also look for parts and instructions and do the repair yourself. If your device is under warranty, there is no charge.
If your device is not under warranty, the out of warranty exchange price is $199 if you are in the US.

To be honest I am not sure. It has not made it into our system yet since none of the players are beyond the -yr warranty anyway. I would imagine (In the US at least) it will be at or around $80 like other similar players, but let me see if I can get some confirmation on that.

Labview isn't cheap, but it would certainly allow you to build a program (set of vi's - virtual instruments) that would do what you describe. Where would the timecode information come from? Your vi, or program, would: Start up, initialize the serial port, loop until a trigger happened, read the timecode (from where?), output that timecode out the serial port in a loop until you pressed the stop button. There is a free evaluation of Labview software available from NI - the base product itself runs about $995.

When you fail to give information on the exact model MBP that you have, how do you expect anyone to provide you with any specific information?
I suggest that you go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com and look for parts and prices. That naturally assumes that you know what parts are defective and need to be replaced.
