You have to update your iPad through iTunes on your PC/MAC. Instructions:
Go to iTunes on your Computer > Plug your iPad into the Computer using the cable dock included > click the iPhone tab on iTunes > Click check for update follow the on screen instructions. You should be done.

Because you have an iPhone 3G, and iOS 4 is the end of the line for the 3G. The update software or update iOS option is not available with iOS 4.

If you never upgraded to iOS5 then you won't have the option to upgrade your phone "over the air". To do an upgrade, connect your phone to iTunes and select the phone on the left menu bar. You will see an option on the main page to Check for Update. Select that and your phone will update to iOS6.
It is recommended that you do a full backup of your phone before you begin the upgrade process.

3GS doesnt have the update software option under general settings..I want to update my version of itunes to be able to download the Times Mobile App..cant seem to do it..
The feature you are looking for is available with iOS 5 or later. You will need to update your iPhone with iTunes on a Mac or PC.

I have updated software on itunes and my iphone4 and at least 100 of my songs in itunes will no longer play or sync on to my iphone. They all have an exclamation mark! to the left of the song title in the library. Please help!

purchasing a movie from apple tv has stopped working. I click on "movies" and it takes me back to the same screen instead of the movies available. I have updated software, unplugged the modem & apple tv box, & the tv; Netflix still works!
Welcome to the Apple Community.
First you should try logging out of your iTunes Store account (settings > iTunes Store > accounts) and then back in again.
If that doesn't help, try resetting the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings). You should also try restarting your router.
If both of the above don't help, you should try a restore (Settings > General > Reset > Restore). -

There's no way to get your data back unless you made a backup somewhere from which you can restore.
