There are companies that specialize in data retrieval but it's costly (probably cheaper to buy a new iPod) and more than likely as Allan said, your circuits are probably damaged beyond all hope of retrieving anything. It's worth calling Apple you maybe able to get a discount or a refurbished iPod. Can't hurt to ask, Good luck. (And in the future... no texting in the john.) Sorry, couldn't resist it.

If the sender got a message that the Messagers were not delivered than they were never delivered and the only way for you to get them is for the sender to resent them

Water damage isn't covered by warranty, but you could always purchase a refurbished device from Apple.

Dry it in rice longer. Then try restoring to factory settings/new iPod. If still problem

If you have important data that is still on the phone and you do not have a backup, and unable to do a backup, then try what I described earlier because the geniuses at the bar WILL NOT recover your data. Your nano would really have nothing to do with it at that point. It is really something between iTunes and whatever server out there on the internet that it is trying to connect to for the update.
Try posting this one in the iTunes forum, they might have a solution for you.

Use iTune (computer) to update the apps. When completed, sync to iPad.

Go to the local Apple store and purchase a refurbished replacement.

There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.

I paid for Lightroom and have been using it for over a year now. Ive just tried to open the app and it's asking me for a serial number.

I purchased LR just over a year ago, has been working fine until I tried to open the app this evening and it's now asking me for my serial number. Calendar good, notes all there....Two days later, I lost most of my contacts, 75% of my appointments, events are gone, both past and future.. Two pages of notes are gone. Really important info. I have synced, synced again,backed up to the cloud, to my computer, shut it down, etc. Nothing has worked! Any ideas?

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

Is iTunes updated on your computer? Are all apps updated on computer?
Turn off wifi and use cable to connect to iPad
Update.
Reset settings.
Reboot the iPad
