I have 2 cds stuck in my mac pro..... :-(

How can I get them out or should I take it in for repair?

yeah, I gotta say, that takes creativity
if using the Terminal command doesn't work or pressing F12 doesn't work, then carefully pull down the optical drive shutter to reveal the face of the optical drive. There you should find a small hole. Straighten a paper clip and insert it into that hole.  The tray should release enough for you to grab it and open it, hopefully, letting you get those 2 cd's back.  BUT- I don't know if you're talking about the Mac Pro desktop or the MacBook Pro portable. big difference.
If it's the latter, take it down to the Genius Bar after making an appointment.  If it's the former, try what's been suggested. As a last resort, shut the machine down, let it cool ,take off the side panel. touch something metal, and pull the optical drive cage straight out towards you. Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, remove the optical drive from the cage, and disconnect the cable at the back. You are now free to remove the top cover of the optical drive, retrieve your cd's, put the cover back on the drive, replace the drive in the cage, plug the cables back into it and slide the cage back in, replace the side panel and start 'er up. Hopefully you have learned something from this experience....

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • HT4505 I have 4 accounts on my Mac Pro running Mavericks.  From one account I can scan with my Epson NX420, but the other three accounts do not see the scanner.  Can print from all accounts.

Sorry, I was not given the option of posting to a Maverics community.  I have 4 accounts on my Mac Pro running Mavericks.  From one account I can scan with my Epson NX420, but the other three accounts do not see the scanner.  Can print from all accounts.

    Hi there Ira Fletcher,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below. Note: While the article was written for printer issues, many of the same troubleshooting steps apply to scanners as well.

  • Have new iMac. My Mac Pro went down in a fire...

I had a house fire and my Mac Pro went down. I have all 4 hard drives with Snow Leopard on one of them from the computer. I bought an iMac as a temp stepping stone before I get another Mac Pro. In the meantime all I really need from the Snow Leopard hard drive to import into Mavericks is the address book. Can anyone tell me how to do that? I may need to get Mac Mail also but that is not quite as important really. If I used migration assistant could I get ONLY those 2 things? Its kind of nice I have a clean Mac for a change and don't want to muddy it up too much. Would kind of like all my settings from Dreamweaver but don't think I can get that since I believe I would have had to export them first.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Migration Assistant basically has 2 main options…
    Import users
    Import Applications
The second one will copy all the applications & supporting data - not what you want since it will add a lot of old applications & their background jobs - old gunk for your new Mac
The first option will allow you to just get the user data, and you can select which account's you would like.
There is one thing to consider - make sure you don't have an existing user account on the Mac that has the same shortname as one you want to import (the 'shortname' is what the home folder is called). That way you get user with your old data separate from the current user.  You can also delete the user if it appears to slow things up (users files shouldn't break the entire OS).
From there you can open Contacts (was Address book), export the data as an 'archive' from the file menu. Save that into /Users/Shared and then open it inside your other user account. You will have the data without all the other gunk in your account. Calendars (was iCal) also has an export option.
You can also look at Mail's settings, Keychain Access (your passwords), Dreamweaver etc in this migrated user account and decide on what you need to export or make note of. Obviously you will need to get Dreamweaver installed since you are not migrating applications.
For what it is worth I would make a full system backup before beginning, you shouldn't need it, but it's best to be cautious with tools that can move masses of data into your lovely clean operating system.
Post back if you think of other things you need to grab.

  • Only select audio cds work with my mac pro.

When I put most of my audio cds in the slot the icon will pop up but then it flickers around the page. I can click on it and it will ask me if I want to download it to itunes. I click yes but then it disappears and nothing happens.

    Hi Fred,
usually any 3.5" form-factor SATA-connected harddisk works in a Mac Pro.
So I don't see any reason for this harddisk not to work.

  • Can I have airplay on a 2008 Mac Pro

I would like to use our Mac Pro to play my husbands football hudl films on our tv. I had thought to use airplay to Apple TV, but I am concerned our Mac is too old. It is a 2009. Can anyone tell me if this would work? If not, is there a different solution?

    Hi Sean
Just a quick reply, I know this is a old thread but for anyone wanting to try Logic X on a budget heres some info:
Im currenly runnning a early Mac Pro 3.1 with 2x 3Ghz quad core &16gb ram.
I've had no issues so far running Logic X 10.7 and have a number of AUs that I use with the machine running the project with no drops outs etc.
Im running Mavericks also and my main OS drive is a 7200 rpm 500 GB Drive.
The latest version of Logic X supports mult threading and will make use of all the cores and both processors. I also on occasion use 32 Lives which is a 32 AU bridge with no issues.
If your thinking about upgrading to Logic X you should do a time machine backup of your mac do the OSX upgrade and buy Logic X and install/update.
Logic X is by far in my opinion the best version of the DAW to date. Yes it looks a bit noob like but you can turn on all the trusty features that you have in Logic 9 within the preferences and fully customise the layout to fit your needs.
Just be mindful that Logic X is 64bit only so unless 32 Lives or equivement bridge supports your AU/VSTs they will not work in Logic X.
Hope this is of some use to you and anyone else thats interested.

  • Question: can I have 2 workstations on 1 mac pro?

I wish to have a remote display, keyboard and mouse on my mac pro in addition to the one in place now .
1 user at a time at either workstation.   thank you!

If I understand you correctly, you want to have one computer, two screens, two keyboards, and two mice with two people working simultaneously on the same computer but doing different tasks on the two separate screens.
As far as I know, OSX does not allow this. You can have multiple displays but only a single keyboard and mouse and only one "active" task.
Actually, I personally don't know of any system that does what you are asking. In many systems, you can remotely log into a machine, but you need to have a second machine in order to do so. The second machine effectively becomes the GUI while running the actual jobs on the machine being logged into.

  • Which Apple computer is best for video - Final Cut Pro X, Photoshop et.  I have a 7 year old Mac Pro which will not accept FCP X.

I have an Apple Mac Pro.  It is almost 7 years old and will not accept FCP X.  I have been waiting for Apple to make a new Mac Pro, but  I don't know when that will happen.
    Any recommendations?

Do not put new money today into Mac Pro 2008 or previous. (the FBDIMM memory is too expensive).
Some say skip the 2009 model as the 2010 is better (has built-in support for hex processors) but not a lot more money.
Computers will always be better, faster, and cheaper if you wait. [A new Mac Pro may not be solid on day 1.] At some point, you have to get your work done, and just have to hold your nose and choose from what is avaiable and stable at the moment.

  • I have an iMac and a Mac Pro, the latter is used when I travel. Do I have to buy TWO Lion OS? THEY BOTH HAVE SNOW LEOPARD 15.6. Thanks

I have both an iMac and a Mac Pro using Snow Leopart 15.6 as an OS. Do Ihave to buy TWO Lion OS to upgrade my OS'?

No. Open the App Store on one computer running Snow Leopard. Purchase and download Lion. On the other computer open the App Store, log on using the same Apple ID, re-download Lion at no extra charge.
Alternatively, see Burning A Lion Boot Disc

Will the upgrade slow down my computer or will it be more beneficial?
    Thanks for any info, D.D.D

There is no way to intelligently answer your question (re: performance).  Since you are running what is unsupported software (by Apple), I would seriously consider upating to the latest software.

  • 10.8.5 and Mac Pro 5.1 - can I have 4k monitor?

    Hi everyone,
I am not sure, so it's better to ask.
I have the previous model of Mac Pro (12 core 3.33GHz) with GTX 770 plugged in. The system is 10.8.5. Till now, I was using Apple Cinema Display HD 30", but I would like to change it to a better monitor with 4K resolution, if it will be possible. The question is, will it work fine with this card and under this version of OS?
I don't want to upgrade the OS, because well… I don't like how it looks like, so this version of OS is quite important for me.
The graphic card itself can run this resolution without a problem, but what a about the OSX? Everything will be OK?

Using 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with Mac computers - Apple Support  seems to say that with built-in hardware you are out of luck.   You may be able to get special drivers from your videocard manufacturer.  http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ is a good place to learn about that.

  • I have an older model Mac Pro that isn't WIFI: how do I update it?

I have an older model of Mac Pro — the MacPro 1,1 — that isn’t wifi capable.a wifi network.
How do I update it to a connect it wirelessly to my router?
Would a PCIe card work?   If so, what would be the best sort?Should I, instead, get the relevant Airport base station?
    Any help would be appreciated

Since the early Intel-based Mac Pro tower was available in a heavily customized version
with many extras as a BTO, and also lesser optioned models, the parts may be harder
to come by now after this passage of time, than when the MacPro1.1 first arrived.
Wi-Fi:    Optional AirPort Extreme card (802.11a/b/g/n)
Bluetooth:    Optional Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
Modem:    Optional Apple USB Modem (MA034Z/A)
    Fibre Channel:  Optional (MA462G/A, MA465G/A)
Internal RAID:   Optional Mac Pro RAID Card with 256 MB cache & 72-hour cache battery backup
An internal Wi-Fi or BT component likely had an external antenna such as the last model
PowerMac G5 with a similar all-metal aluminum case, as that does resist radio waves...
The answer for issues with last model PPC G5 aluminum, was an external antenna.
Not sure what model or part numbers were involved in any of the BTO or dealer installed options.
So if you use an expansion card idea, note the metal case of the early MacPro may block it.
You could use an Apple Express, and use it via Ethernet cable, to extend a network to MacPro.
PS: The two linked PCI card adapters are not familiar to me, nor are the complexities of this
series of early MacPro; other than they do have similar issues with wireless due to metal case.
    Good luck & happy computing!
