Finding, purchasing and /or downloading apps for PowerPC is going to be difficult since Apple and all of its developers have moved on to Intel prprocessors.
That stated, if you tell us what you wish to do with this Mac, we might be able to point you toward the right direction and find those PowerPC/Universal apps that you may need.

You run Windows in Parallels or Fusion. Then in Windows you install the program.

  • I have a Mac OSX Version 10.4 and iphoto 6. I cannot upgrade to a later version of iphoto 6 because it requires a 10.5.6 or later. What can I do?

I have a Mac OSX version 10.4.11 and iphoto 6. I can no longer order cards, prints etc. and cannot upgrade to a newer version of iphoto because I don't meet the system requirements of 10.5.6 or later. What can I do?

Unless you upgrade the OS and then iPhoto, not a lot, I'm afraid.

  • HT1444 I have a Mac OSX Version 10.4.11 and i want to know how to update software. Also i have Itunes 8.2 how do i update that?

I have a Mac OSX Version 10.4.11 and i want to know how to update software are i have itunes 8.2 i want to know how to update that as well

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether further updates are required.
You should now see the App Store icon, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • HT4472 What do I need to do to upgrade to a 10.6? I have a Mac OSx version 10.5.8

What do I need to do to upgrade to a 10.6? I have a Mac OSx version 10.5.8

Giving just the basics, first you need to confirm that your iMac will run 10.6. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Then you need to confirm that your applications and peripherals will run under 10.6 or that they can be upgraded to do so.
Finally, you need to purchase a retail copy of 10.6. See:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A

  • I have a Mac OSX Version 10.5.8 When I put in my disc to upgrade to snow leopard version 10.6.3 it tells me I need atleast 1gb of ram memory to download. what can I do

I have a Mac OSX Version 10.5.8 When I put in my disc to upgrade to snow leopard version 10.6.3 it tells me I need atleast 1gb of ram memory to download. what can I do

Your iMac can take a total of 2 GBs of RAM Max.
    Maximum Memory
    2.0 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
You will be able to install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and it will run, but you may not be happy with the performance overall.
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and later OS X versions use more and more CPU, GPU and RAM resources.
OS X 10.6, by itself, will use between 2-4 GBs of RAM to run quickly, smoothly and efficiently.
Start running additonal applications and your iMac is going to struggle.
Just fair warning if you notice that your iMac is running slower after installing OS X 10.6.
    Good Luck!

  • I have a Mac G4 (version=3.3)  How can I connect it to my BT Broadband.  It does not seem to have an AirPort card - do I need one and if so how do I get one?  Many thanks

I bought a Power Mac G4 (version=3.3) second hand from my company.  It is running Mac OS 10.2.8 and Microsoft Office X.  I wish to connect it to my BT broadband hub.  However, it does not appear to have an AirPort card and even if it did I was told that the BT hub mainly works with microsoft rather than apple products.  Can anyone advise me how I can connect and what products I need to buy?
    Many thanks

These are readily available on eBay etc. and are not expensive.
See http://www.airportcardsdirect.com/ these cards are cheap and not sold via DOA-Bay.

The PowerMac3,3 uses the original AirPort 802.11b card. It may also need a card adapter to enable it to mate with the internal connections - I'd have to check on that.
Not true. Those adaptors were intended for the iMac G3 (long outdated) and only the iMac G3. All G4 machines just take AP Cards the way they are.
    John Galt wrote:
You should also look into upgrading it to OS X "Tiger" but make sure you get the original retail install CD. It will be black with a large "X". Grey discs are machine specific and will not work.
Actually I HIGHLY recommend upgrading to OS X Leopard. Tiger is no longer supported by hardly anybody (Apple, Adobe, etc) and Leopard is still the minimum for most things nowadays. If you want more life out of this Mac, then I would highly recommend installing Leopard. And as mentioned above you NEED a Retail DVD. (The Leopard DVD has a little Purple in the Center of the DVD and a BLACK X in the center.

  • I inadvertently deleted and emptied the trash bin on Firefox. I have a MAC OSX-VERSION 10.4.11. How can I re-install the latest version of Firefox that is COMPUTER FRIENDLY for the MAC OSX Version 10.4.11? I appreciate any help.

I inadvertently deleted Firefox and emptied the trash bin. I believe it was version 3.5. I have a MAC OSX 10.4.11. After several futile attemps how can I re-install the latest version of Firefox compatible to my MAC system? Thanks!

As of Firefox 4.0 and newer the Firefox builds from Mozilla requires both Mac OSX 10.'''5'''+ and a Intel.
Either you can use 3.6.19 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Though for you 3.6.18 will be safe also as 3.6.19 was to workaround a font crashing issue on 10.7 Lion that was not fixed in time on Lion before release. http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.18/mac/ and pick your language and download the Firefox 3.6.18.dmg

  • HT1338 I have a Mac Tiger version and I would like to upgrade my Operating System.

Can this be done by downloading it directly or do I have to bring in my computer to an apple store?

Your computer profile information is confusing.  You say you are running Tiger yet your profile says your computer is running Lion which is three versions beyond Tiger.  Which version are you running?
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window then "About This Mac", and tell us what it says for "version".  Now continues to "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
You can do any system upgrade yourself.  The ease with which is can be done is more a matter of which version your really need.  If you are indeed running Lion then upgrading to Mountain Lion can be done online for $20.  If you are indeed running Tiger and are running an older computer that can only go to Leopard then you will have to do a lot of hunting for a copy of Leopard and be prepared to spend a lot of money buying it (maybe $100+?)

  • I have a Mac Pro Version 10.5.8 I want to download new software but every time I try to It says my computer doesn't support it can someone help me?

    I need Help Please!

    Upgrade as follows:
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
You should be sure you have upgraded your hardware if that is required.
