Try cleaning the lens and see if that will restore functionality to the DVD drive. Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, if you have a can of compressed air, shoot some into the slot or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) around a business card and insert it gently inside the slot.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get a free diagnosis from them.

Thanks. I have been using iTunes since its inception and have never had a problem...I'm using the latest version. The progress bar is the bar that moves when you're playing a song..it just won't start when I double click on a song,..have tried quitting, rebooting etc but nothing works. Apple are useless-they have told me twice they've tried to call me 'momentarily', but I've been waiting by the phone, and they definitely have not tried to call...

TC 500GB died today - how do I get my data off of it?

My TC has been working great until today when the power died. Tried unplugging/plugging it back in, but still dead. Currently I have it unplugged and will wait a few hours before I plug it back in hoping life will flow back into it.

Either remove the hard disk.. there are plenty of sites about replacing the hard disk in the TC.. if you do it carefully,, heating the rubber foot really hot with hair dryer or hot air gun,, then you can simply peel it back and undo the 10 small Philips head screws.. get a USB to sata converter at local computer store.. a bare one is less than $20.. a decent box might be $40..
Or repair the TC.. in the end that is cheap.. you can get it repaired or do it yourself if you have a few clues.. and then sell it on ebay once you recover your data and wipe the drive. The repair is cheaper than sale price.

Upgrading to 10.6.8 should still give you mostly the same compatibility as 10.4.11. Upgrading to 10.7 and above won't.

What version of iPhoto and system are you running? On the guess that you're running the latest iPhoto, 9.4.2, Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the thumnails, Option #2.
2 - It may take 2-3 attempts so don't give up after only one attempt.

Move your cursor way over to the right side of the window. There should be a thin bar. when you hover over the left side of the thin bar, the cursor will change to a vertical bar with an arrow sticking out the left. Click and drag to the left.

Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.

Getting Corrupted Data Off A Disc

I have a disc with a bunch of mpegs on it that run off the disc and work fine in compressor, but i need to put them onto my system. Problem is that my mac wont let me bring the files off the disc becuase it keeps saying they are corrupted wont let them continue to copy once it reaches the "corrupted" section. If there is any way to get the files onto my harddrive despite the error messages id love to know about it thanks in advance

If they will open and run, why not just open them and then do a Save as to a location on your hard drive?
