I have a MacBook purchased in 2009 with Snow Leopard. I tried to access "special characters" from the Finder menu and an intermittent blank pop ups and will not stop. It also happens when I run Word or Pages.
The blank pop up began as I tried to access "special characters" from the finder menu. I restarted, turned off and restarted and it did not work. It interferes with any application because I cannot work fast. Every new step takes a few seconds longer such as saving, finding text, check spelling and many more. I am desperate to solve this. Thanks in advance for any help given.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

I am trying to access tax forms from the IRS. I download them to my comuter and they read fine (version XI). However, when iItry to open them on another computer (version 4) they will not open. Version 4 opens all other pdf documents fine, just not the ones from the IRS. Any ideas?
Version 4 is oh so old.
The IRS and many other providers of forms are using products like LIveCycle which require at least version 7.05.
Saving, Filling, and Printing PDF Files
We use Adobe Acrobat PDF files as a means to electronically provide forms & publications. You will need to have the Adobe Reader software installed to access them (available FREE from the Adobe Reader download page on Adobe's Web site). We recommend using the most recent version of Adobe Reader. -
History:
Started with stucking. No sesponse to any attempt than force quit.
When i checked the disc, replied: nod fail, repair with installation cd. Sth like that.
I borrowed the installation disc of a macbook pro (i have macbook). I run the utilities to repair the disc 2 times. Failed. After i didn't know how to take out the cd. I had to force quit.
Then, at start, it takes 10-15 minutes with the Apple sign and a small silver bar, until it switch of by itself. I repeated the procedure 10 times totaly, the same!
Sime times, when i start from the installation cd ( i hold "c" at the start), it does'n "see" the hard drive to start up with.
Important detail: When i run the disc repair operation from the Disc Utility of the Installation cd, on the column of the volumes, the "HD Macintosh" characters are grey, whether others are normaly black.
Budget detail: i don't have money to buy products etc, so i count on your advises!!! I prepare a performance though, soon, and i can add the trademark of the sponsor, if somebody is interested... All the data in the computer are about this work, so i cannot risk to lose them.
Thank you in advance! It sounds as if your MacBook's hard drive is dead, or possibly dying. Replacement drives are fairly inexpensive. You'll need an install DVD like the one that came with the MacBook. Contact Apple via expresslane.apple.com to order a new set. Once you have the machine up and running, restore your data from your backups. If you don't have backups, contact a data recovery outfit to see what they can get off of your old hard drive.
Backups are important!
Best of luck. -
More info on sitemap.xml:
http://www.adobekb.com/strategies_for_seo.html#understandingsitemap
Note that you can also exclude a page from your sitemap.xml to prevent crawlers from crawling it. Usually you don't want to do this, but if you have a good reason to the setting for that is in the page properties dialog.
You can assign heading tags using paragraph styles. More info here:

I'm able to set alt text on thumbnail images. Are you sure you have the thumbnail image selected?
You can create a placeholder page in your plan view, then mark the page menu options as 'include page without hyperlink'. Then your menu will contain an entry for this page, but no hyperlink. If you select the menu item, you can assign a hyperlink with the hyperlink control in the control strip. -
I have an iMac mid yr 2009 with snow leopard. I checked and my howdoi.swf 8.o r22 is power pc and my HP sofware updater is also power pc. How can I update these appls to be compat with Lion, as I am not computer savvy. or should I wait awhile to install Lion?
Lion upgrade questions and answers: Apple Support Communities
You may want to hold off upgrading to Lion for a bit and check with the HP site to see if they will update their HP software for Lion compatbility. -
I have a Macbook pro 2009 with Snow Leopard. Which system can I install without running into complicated problems which I will not be able to solve by myself- a person with limited problem solving abilities. (Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite?)
It will make it easier to help you w/ your problem to know the size and RAM installed.
"Yesterday I couldn't update the maps on my Garmin because it said the OS I had wouldn't work"
What OS will your Garmin work with? Funny there was someone else that did that and upgraded to Yosemite and regretted it.
I'd say Lion if your Garmin is compatible.
Both Lion and Mountain Lion are downloadable from the Apple Store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
The OSs will get more resource hungry the higher you go. -
I have a macbook purchased in 2009. I just purchased a new ipod and am in a loop of updates that seems to have no end. Do I need snow leopard? Will that then let me use the latest itune update?
You need to buy Snow Leopard from the online Apple Store. You don't need Mountain Lion.

Airport keeps throwing me out of internet connection on my D-link router with Macbook Pro 5.5 with Snow leopard. Pls if anyone has a solution to this then let me know
I'm using my PC notebook because connecting with my iMac is IMPOSSIBLE!!! If I get connected at all, it's worse than dial-up speed.
We are wireless via a D-Link DIR-625 (new) -- but was having some problems before with a netgear. Problem much worse now. My computers are not the primary computers. My sister gets that coin toss. She is a PC user. I share with her using WPA2. When the iMac "wakes" the signal bands are strong, but when I go to a page I lose all signal strength. And several times a day I get a message indicating an error joining the network -- arghhhhh -- HELP!
Is the problem with D-Link or Mac? Thanks for any help. -

While the 2011 MBP's that shipped with Lion can be made to run Snow Leopard as long as you have the appropriate installer disk for 10.6.7 or later, yours is a 2012 MBP and most likely can never be made to run Snow Leopard because the necessary hardware support drivers (e.g., USB 3.0 support) simply aren't a part of that OS. -

The first two things I recommend is boot from your installer dvd or external bootable drive and repair/verify your drives with Disk Utility (not repair permissions) and do a smc and pram reset.
Also make sure you have at least 20GB to 25GB free space on your boot volume for OS operations. -
I have a imac 10.6.8 with snow leopard. Just upgraded to iphoto 11 Now my computer keeps freezing up mostly if my iphone is connected. It even freezes in safari. Can i get my money back and unistall
This forum is for people to discuss issues with other users. Apple aren't here. No one here can give you your money back. So, contact the the App Store support, if that's where you bought it. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store window.

I have Adobe Design CS6, suddenly a simple PDF will not open. Noting happens when I doubleclick either the file or try to open Adobe Acrobat X Pro ?
Hi Jenny, I just had to do that, for the 3rd time. It is a pity though when one pays for such expensive software that this happens, specifically when the only Adobe help is to tell you to post your problem on a forum and hope someone can help you. Not good enough and not what I expected when I bought it. I am so disappointed in Adobe.

When I tap on Top 25 button for the app store I get a window that says "to many HTTP redirects" it also happens when I tap on the categories button
Restart your device
Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset)
Backup and Restore
Do all of those in order - although I almost guarantee you won't need to perform the last step.
Sounds like your phone is just getting a resource error. -
I have been having problems downloading apps with my cellular data. I try installing apps from the app store and when it starts loading it just stays loading for a while but all of a sudden it loads all the way and then it restarts. It goes back to waiting
