  • What should I do if I no longer have access to the phone number that my iCloud keychain verification code is sent to?

When I first turned in iCloud keychain I had no other Apple devises so I put in a phone number for it to send my verification number to. Then I had to delete that phone number but the iCloud keychain number is still saying it is going to send the verification number to that phone. How do I program in that that number is no longer active. Please help!!!!!

    Hello Conor T,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you do not have access to the phone number you set up for iCloud Keychain, you will need to contact Apple Support to complete setup on a new device.
How do I set up iCloud Keychain on a new device if I don't have one of my other devices to approve from?
If you can't access any of your other devices that are using iCloud Keychain, you can still set up iCloud Keychain on another device if you have these items:
    Your iCloud Security Code
The device that is using the SMS-capable phone number you provided when you first set up iCloud Keychain. A verification code is sent via SMS to this phone number. If you can't access this number, contact Apple Support, who can verify your identity, so that you can complete setup on your new device.
After you complete the setup, your iCloud Keychain will be pushed from the cloud to the new device.

  • Texts changed from phone number to email?

Recently a contact informed me that my texts are being sent out with my email address instead of my phone number?  Does anyone know how to change this so that the phone number is sent out instead of my email address?

    tvballer34,
I had the same problem, read through as many threads as I could find.  I chatted with an apple advisor and here's a solution (i don't know if there is an easier way, but it works albeit time consuming).
1.) Backup your phone. Go to icloud.com and log in to make sure you're set up.  Then go into settings -> icloud -> storage & backup - mange storage.  Tap on your phone's icon, make sure all the apps you want are "on".  go back and select "back up now".  Also and pictures you have make sure to put them on your computer.
2.) Restore you phone to factory settings.
3.) As your iphone restarts and you set it up, select "set up as new"
4.)  make sure you can call out and that under settings -> phone -> my number is in fact your number.
5.) Go to settings -> general -> reset-> and select "erase all content and settings".  it will reboot again
6.) This time in setup select "restore from icloud"
It's time consuming, maybe took 45 minutes, but most of that was following conversing with a tech and then waiting.
    Hope it helps

  • BT have moved my parents phone number to a neighbo...

BT have moved my parents phone number to a neighbours house by mistake and they now have no dialling tone at home and no one will help sort it.
The neighbour contacted "Customer Services Monday and was on the phone for 4 hours with no result. I phoned yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon to 0800 400 456  spoke for half an hour and when asked to speak to a manager was cut off. I phoned back and was on the line for 45 minutes spoke to 3 people and a manager who promised to call back and they didnt. I phoned this morning early and they said they would phone back and they havent.
BT have made a large error but say they cant sort it until 17 September. Thats no good. My parents have "lifeline" as they are elderly and ill which now doesnt work. They cant not have a phone for 2 weeks it is absurd. Who can I talk to who will help?

That does seem a very long time to fix a fault.  The terms and conditions suggest that faults should normally be fixed much quicker than that, although it includes phrases like "may be available" and "we aim to":

    As an aside I note:
"If we do not keep an appointment, you may claim a fixed amount of £10."
I suspect BT would try and charge a much higher figure if they turned up to an appointment and couldn't gain access to a property because the householder was out, for example.
BT Openreach, the contractors to BT Retail, charge £90 if you miss their appointment but refund £45 if they miss an appointment with you.  So the £10 refund to you must exclude £35 "handling fee" to BT Retail.
The thing about the terms and conditions is that they are completely silent on what happens in the event that BT miss their original aim of a 3 working day fix.  My theory is that you then fall right to the bottom of the queue as BT Openreach are too busy trying to fix other people's problems in three days.

Facetime is using my husband's cell phone number instead of mine. How can I change the number to mine in face time?

You need to set up the accounts in System Preferences/Accounts, then activate Fast User Switching.
That way you can quickly log in to your own account - then back to his.
You should obviously have different passwords.

i think i have a virus on my Macbook Pro, OS X Yosemite, how do i wipe my computer clean without erasing photos and music etc?

The update alerts are fake, and are intended to dupe you into installing malware or disclosing private information so that your identity can be stolen.
You might get the alerts when visiting a website that has been hacked. Don't visit the site again. If applicable, notify the site administrator of the problem, but don't send email to an unknown party.
If you get the alerts when visiting more than one well-known website, such as Google, YouTube, or Facebook, then they may be the result of an attack on your router that has caused you to get false results from looking up the addresses of Internet servers. Requests sent to those sites are redirected to a server controlled by the attacker. It's possible, but less likely, that the DNS server used by your ISP has been attacked.
    Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
              8.8.8.8
              8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
    In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. If the fake update alerts stop, see below. Otherwise, ask for instructions.
The router's documentation should tell you how to reset it to the factory default state. Usually there's a pinhole switch somewhere in the back. It may be labeled "RESET." Insert the end of a straightened paper clip or a similar tool and press the button inside for perhaps 15 seconds, or as long as the instructions specify.
After resetting the router, quit the web browser and relaunch it while holding down the shift key. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Do the equivalent if you use another browser. Open the Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.
Then go through the router's initial setup procedure. I can't be specific, because it's different for every model. The key points are these:
    1. Don't allow the router to be administered from the WAN (Internet) port, if it has that option. Most do.
    2. Set a strong password to protect the router's settings: at least ten random upper- and lower-case letters and digits. Don't use the default password or any other that could be guessed. Save the password in your keychain. Any password that you can remember is weak.
    3. If the router is wireless, or if you have a wireless access point on the network, use "WPA 2 Personal" security and set a different strong password to protect the network. If the router or access point doesn't support WPA 2, it's obsolete and must be replaced.
During the time the router was compromised, you were redirected to bogus websites. If you ever connected to a secure site and got a warning from your browser that the identity of the server could not be verified, and you dismissed that warning in order to log in, assume that your credentials for the site have been stolen and that the attacker has control of the account. This warning also applies to all websites on which you saw the fake update alerts.
Check the router manufacturer's website for a firmware update.
If you downloaded and installed what you thought was a software update, ask for instructions.

Try restarting your iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, double check the volume button just in case.  If you still can't hear the tones go into your settings>sounds and make sure the options are on.

  • I have accidentally "disconnected" from the Internet in Airport Utility. How do I reverse what I have done?

I have accidentally "disconnected" from the Internet in Airport Utility. How do I reverse what I have done? I clicked on the globe and clicked where it said "connected" and now it says "disconnected" HELP!

markwmsn, In the Airport Utility on my iPad I clicked on the globe at the top of the screen and over to the side there was the word "Connected". I clicked on it and it changed to read "Disconnected". At that point I started having Internet connection problems. All of the extremes (2) and expresses (6) I have spread throughout my home at first were green, but then began to either turn yellow, like the globe had, or disappear from the screen. Even though the globe remained yellow I went through the house and reset all the other devices. I was sure the problems were caused by my clicking on the word " Connected" and changing it to " Disconnected". I clicked on "Disconnected", but nothing happened. I called and wrote my ISP to ask them to reset the server serving my home. I got a call few hours later telling me that there had been an outage in my area, so I began thinking that perhaps there had been a coincidental occurrence of me clicking "Connected" and there being a service outage in my area. Needless to say I've decided to never click that word again for fear of the problem really being my actions.
If you can shed light on any of this, I'd be grateful.

  • I have purchased MOVIES from Apple iTunes and want to know how I can burn them to my DVD so I can watch/view the movies on my TV's located in my house?

I have purchased MOVIES from Apple iTunes and want to know how I can burn them to my DVD so I can watch/view the movies on my TV's located in my house?  Pls post what you know or works for you - I see the movies on iTunes but am unable to locate them in any folder on my computer???  Thank you!
    Pete

So what is meant here is spend more money - wrong answer.
For that reason most people prefer to buy movies on DVD. They are easily shared, foolproof, and super easy to use. I love Apple TV and iTunes for music and TV shows, but I would never purchase a movie that was not on an optical disc.
When I head out-of-town I can grab a couple of DVDs to watch on my new MacBook Pro during the flight. Easy and uncomplicated.
DVDs offer another advantage. You can watch your movie without depending upon a complicated and delicate infrastructure. Also, movies are frequently censored for political correctness (Star Wars is a recent example).  Despite public pressure for a release, the Disney movie “Song of the South” remains banned.  Even cartoons like Johnny Quest are now censored.  Only people who purchased physical copies years ago have them as they were originally produced.
When you possess a physical copy of the movie the PC patrol can't mess with it.

  • I currently have Imessage turned off on my phone since there is no blocking feature on the Iphone 4.  If I change my phone number and turn on Imessage, how do I make sure I won't get Messages from person I have blocked?

I have the Iphone 4 but before this I had a different phone and had blocked someone from contacting me via calls/texts.  Unbeknownst to me, when I got the Iphone 4, that I cannot block Imessages.   I have turned off Imessage for the time being but I'm seriously considering changing my phone number.  If I change the number with my carrier and turn Imessage back on,  what do I have to do to ensure that any previous messages don't come through and any future messages cannot be sent?

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS7, it has basically become a brick.  It constantly freezes, and the home button becomes completely inoperable.  People have suggested a number of fixes for the home button problem ("calibrating", tightening screws, etc.) but none of the fixes solved the problem.  Through trial and error, I've come to realize that the problem is that the phone doesn't have enough computing power and that too much of its RAM gets used up by background processes, causing the phone to freeze.
I have found an app that stops unnecessary background processes currently running, frees up RAM, and lets the phone function properly (Free RAM 1.3). Once I've run this app, the phone functions perfectly.
However, this clean up only happens each time the app is launched (ie: it does not continuously free up RAM).  So, I constantly have to run it (and sometimes am not able to because the phone is frozen and the home button won't work).
When it is running, the app  displays the background processes that are running.  Looking at the list, there are many processes for which I have no need, such as processes related to automatic checking for app updates, processes related to iCloud (which I do not use), etc.  Preventing these processes from running in the first place would go a long way in making my phone more useable (being able to return to a previous iOS would be a better option, but Apple won't allow this).
Here is my question:  is there a way to prevent unnecessary background processes from running at all?
    Which app is this?
