I have a word document that keeps stalling with the spinning ball sign - how can I stop this?
Have a 2009 Macbook Air. Never given me any trouble before. But I am working on a long word document (docx) - 200 pages of text - and after 5 minutes of working on it it starts to stall and the spinning ball comes up every time I try to type or edit. I have tried resaving it as a doc. I have transferred it to my main IMac where the same problem occurs. No other word documents are doing this. This document is a novel, three years in the making, which is due to go off to publishers in a few weeks time so I am rather worried that it is going to be unrescuable. any suggestions?
I have a time machine and so on so it is all backed up, but i want to be able to work on it!
Please help!?Try this.
Open the document and select and copy a few pages, say ten pages.
Open a new blank document and paste the pages you copied into that.
Save it with a new name.
Work on those new pages to see if the problem has disappeared.
If this helps, continue breaking up the large file in to smaller chunks and working on them
You can of course later reverse the process and merge the files into one new one.
This suggestion is based on my experiences with large Word files. Breaking it up in to smaller chunks does two things. First, if there is any corruption in the old file, the new copies might escape that. Second, the Mac is faster handling the smaller chunks. -
I am having a tough time trying to share my music with other family members. When putting music on their devices it shares all my apps and everything and just want to share music they want from my purchases.
Adding media directly to the media folder does not make it appear in the library. iTunes doesn't really 'look' at that folder except to go to specific files when you call upon them from a library. You have to drag new content to each user's library, that is assuming each user has their own library.

Trying to sort through 6,000+ photos by dates (some that are incorrect) was very time consuming. I was looking for a way to reinstall iPhoto from my Time Capsule because I thought that Apple had done away with iPhoto on my computer. I found this bit of information. I now have iPhoto back and am not wasting time trying to find photos anymore. (No I did not have them sorted into albums because I found the Event sort to be perfect for me and those were my 'albums'.) I don't know anything about the $3.99 a month. However, I do not put my photos in iCloud and did not transfer my library to iCloud when it asked me. Hope this helps.

iPhoto — and Aperture, if you downloaded it — remains on your system in the Applications folder, and you can continue to use it. If you open iPhoto or Aperture after you upgrade to Photos, you’ll be asked if you want to open your library there or in Photos.
Any changes or edits you make in iPhoto or Aperture aren't reflected in Photos. And any changes or edits you make in Photos will not be reflected in iPhoto or Aperture. -

Ned, thanks for responding. Internet access is not the problem, I will have a tower computer connected to Comcast.
Isolating the laptop from the internet is the issue.

Deselect the box next to Photo Stream then reselect it then restart your Mac. -

How do I download only selected audiobooks from iTunes to my iPod.? I don't want to download the whole library..i have an iPod classic and Mac laptop with the latest ios.
If you check songs, simply sync the entire library.
But I highly recommend (and it is far simpler) to create a playlist (or multiple playlists) and select only that playlist to sync.
Leave everything checked.
Then simply add/remove from these playlists and sync away. -
When using iCloud: If I have purchased a CD at a shop, and I sync it to my iTunes account on my laptop, will it automatically appear on my iPod Touch, or will I have to connect it to my laptop with a cable?

You have to connect the iPod to the PC and sync it to get the songs in the device. You will only get your music in your iPod automatically if you have purchased your songs in the iTunes Store and Automatic Downloads are enabled in your iPod -
Almost my iTunes library is missing since upgrade Lion 7.2. (the last 2.5 weeks worth of added music has transferred post-upgrade, none of whcih was bought from iTunes)

I do not mean the entire ITunes folder but, rather, the contents of the ITunes folder prior to September 29th. (90% of the media is missing, along with all playlists) The media that remains says it was added on 9/29 although I know most of it was added many months or even years earlier. There are no playlists listed at all, before or after 9/29. (I know for certain that I added non-iTunes purchased songs on 10/6 although I had not created playlists for them)
I have my iTunes folder backed up on both an external drive as well as Time Machine.
I run iTunes off of an ITunes folder on my computer rather than from the external, if that's what you mean about how I have it set up.
Is it OK to drag the entire iTunes folder from the external drive onto my laptop's drive and see if that fixes it?

I bought and downloaded some music off of the internet on my laptop that uses Windows 8. How can I get my music to open automatically in my itunes instead of opening in the music app (the orange sqaure with headphones)? Currently I have had to often downloads and sift through all my files to find the ones I want to open into itunes, and it's irritating.
Media is only where the user puts it.
Installing iTunes does not and has never caused media to magically appear on the computer.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer (or backup of the old computer) to the new computer. -

iTunes and iCloud and different accounts, you will need to delete both accounts from your device before adding the new details in their place.
For iCloud go to settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete button. You can then sign back in using your correct details. For iTunes go to settings >store, tap your account ID and then sign out, you can then sign back in using your correct Apple ID. -
