I believe your model iMac can address 3 GB RAM; the minimum for Lion is 2 GB - however, that is an absolute minimum for very light use. You would be much happier with a minimum of 4 GB.

I have a Blueberry Clamshell with 9.2.1 on it. It's a PPC G3, 300 MHz, and 3 GB (capacity 3.24 GB). I bought it new back in '99 (?). I added memory 128 MB a few years ago, bringing the memory up to 160 MB. I want to switch the 128 MB with a 256 MB card, but I don't know if that's possible. (The iBook quick start manual says 128 is the maximum add).
So, can I put a 256 MB card in and have the iBook still work?

Yes, i do not suggest upgrading right now. There is some software malfunction or glitch that spontaneously shuts down this specific model. I upgraded and it was a pain to downgrade and make my mac usable again.

The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

I've read here on Apple's site that the 85W version will work, as you say, and that it would run cooler with a 13" Macbook - I have a 13" MBP of course but assume this would be the same with mine. I wonder if running cooler is a good thing (it sounds as if it is) and it would be better for me to get the 85W version than the 60W one?
Then I have to decide whether to pay the (extortionate as it seems to me, though I may be wrong) £65 from Apple (bearing in mind the rotten reviews here of the Apple product), or risk a cheaper alternative from Amazon UK, at around £20 (also with various rotten reviews)... Thanks for your reply--makes me not want to get involved with Mavericks, and I appreciate the heads-up. What I hadn't thought about is that by upgrading my OS I would also have to upgrade from my Adobe CS1. Since I'm retired from my art career, I'm reluctant to spend the dough on new CS; but I still like using PhotoShop and InDesign (and obviously don't care that they are outmoded). But I'll bet any newer Mac OS won't run my old software.

Mountain Lion won't make it faster. It may not even be compatible. Speed has a lot to do with what is installed, installation of utilities that actually slow you down, such as MacKeeper, or any cache cleaning softawre. Installation of utilities that you don't need such as anti-virus or firewall software. Peer2peer software. Other devices sharing the same network can slow it down too, make sure your network is secure, and you know what is sharing the network. Some websites may be slower on Safari, and an alternative browser* is needed.

If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC - when connected (and if your computer's iTunes is up-to-date) your iPad should then appear on that sidebar under a 'Devices' heading :
If you select the iPad on that sidebar you can then use the Movies tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync that film to your iPad's Videos app.

Can OS X Snow Leopard be installed on a MacBook Pro5, 5 with an Intel Core 2 Duo?

This question may already exist somewhere in the support community, but if it is there I have missed it. If not, then here it is for myself and those of this specific inquiry.
I have a MacBook Pro bought in mid-2009, Model MacBookPro5, 5, with an Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, and approximately 140 GB of HD space, which meets the stated requirements for Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks. It is currently running OS X 10.5.8 Leopard, and I am trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard, or, if possible, Mavericks. I have the Snow Leopard CD, and have tried to install it. However, I get the error message "OS X Can't be installed on this computer". I have tried it from my current OS and by booting directly from the CD. I do not have any partitions, and have backed up and erased the existing Macintosh HD volume, but the error message continues.
Can anyone shed some light into what is the issue? If so, much appreciated in advance.

yes, the MacBookPro5,5 (13-inch Mid 2009 MacBook Pro) can run Snow Leopard. In fact, there were two varieties of model-specific grey installation DVDs for that model MacBook Pro: one had Leopard 10.5.7, and the other had Snow Leopard 10.6. (The “Apple disc ID” of the latter is 2Z691-6533-A.)
Do you have the white “upgrade” 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD, or the white “install” 10.6.3 Snow Leopard DVD? If you have the “upgrade” DVD, then it won’t let you install onto an empty partition; you’ll need to have Snow Leopard installed on your boot disk before it will install the upgrade.
Once you’ve got Snow Leopard installed and updated via Software Update to 10.6.8, you’ll be able to install Mavericks.

Assuming it's a 27" 2012 machine, it will accomodate up to 32GB. I'd strongly recommend reputable vendors such as OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial.
If you bought a 21.5" iMac the RAM is not upgradeable. The 21.5" machines will accomodate up to 16GB from Apple however you have to order the machine with 16GB directly. OWC does provide RAM upgrade kits for the 2012 210.5" iMacs however it is MAJOR surgergy and is full of risks including fatally damaging the machine and invalidating the warranty.
