I have an iPod 3rd generations with a really cruddy battery. What's the cost of getting a new battery installed? Is it worth it or should I save my coins to purchase a newer model?

I am considering possibly upgrading my iPod touch 3rd gen to mini iPad because my touch no longer holds a charge. I only hesitate because I'm comfortable with my touch and am weary of spending so much money of a new device. Is it worth it to just get the battery replaced?

Yes you will lose the films that you downloaded to the iPad when you sync with your own iTunes unless you transfer the purchases into your own iTunes library. Were these movies that you purchased? If so, you might be able to download them again for free. Do you have multiple computers that you sync from or is this someone else's purchased content?
You can select whatever you want to sync to all of your devices in iTunes, you do not have to sync the same content to all device.

I can´t sync my iPod 3rd Generation with iTunes library

Hello, I´ve been trying for a while to sync my iPod with my iTunes library on my PC. It does show up on Windows as a drive and iTunes seems to know there is a device plugged in but then a message appears: "iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch because an invalid response was received from the device" I´ve tried several solutions, including: restarting the iPod Service, restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, emptying my Temp directory and restarting and changing my device´s Drive Letter. On rare occasions, when I give it another try, I manage to get the iPod recognized, but when I enter the iPod menu, the sync button appears grayed out or if I can click it and attempt to synce the iPod, it seems to happen in the computer, but no changes are made on the iPod. I´ve tried syncing only music and only "selected music and tracks" but no setting seems to be transmitted to the iPod. The iPod shows the "charging" icon but never the "syncing" icon. I hope somone can help me. I have also tried syncing over Wi-Fi, and in the iPod, I can see the Pc but it appears grayed out.
And, to my outrage, random songs have been dissapearing from the iPod randomly. It sounds weird but maybe it is because of iOS 5. I have an iPod 3rd Generation and iOS 5.1.1 (9B206). Both iTunes and my iPod say my software is up to date and maybe the iPod is too old for further updates but I only want to get my new iTunes songs into my iPod. Please somebody help me. Look at the back of the iPod. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. The 2nd generation iPod touch is model A1288, and 3rd generation iPod touch is model A1318. If you have a second-generation iPod touch, the last release of iOS is can run is 4.2.1.

It may be damaged. You have to make sure it is completely dry on the inside. Any moisture can cause short circuits and damage if you try to use the iPod.
If it has already been left alone drying out for at least several days, the iPod is probably damaged and will no longer function.

This is an iPod shuffle 3rd gen? I realize this forum category is for the shuffle, but sometimes people post in the wrong category, so I want to confirm your iPod is not a 3rd gen iPod "classic" or 3rd gen iPod nano...
Assuming it's a 3rd gen shuffle (the one with no control buttons on the shuffle), are you using the USB cable that came with it? There are third-party replacement cables that will fit, but if it's made for the 2nd gen shuffle, it will not work with a 3rd (or 4th) gen shuffle. The connector is different.

It sounds like may actually have a 2nd generation. Please check the model number on the back, if it is A1288, it is a 2nd generation and can not be upgraded beyond 4.2.1.

I have an iPod 3rd generation 64gb that I was listening to this afternoon walking my dogs and it suddenly stopped playing. I pulled it out of my pocket and it was responding to anything I did to it. The screen is black with nothing displaying on it.

I tried restarting my iPod by holding the on/off button and the home button for 30 or more seconds and nothing happened. I tried shaking it, connested it to my laptop and it doesn't even show up in iTunes. How long does the battery last in an iPod? If you can't download using your phone, then just download it from Itunes and then sync your phone.

You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store). iTunes syncing is generally in one direction, from the computer's iTunes library to the iPod. However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer. If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links. (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your current iTunes library. Then, with your new and old songs consolidated, you can sync your iPod to that library.
NOTE: If your old songs were purchased from the iTunes Store, you can re-download them at no cost. You need to sign in to the iTunes Store using the Apple ID used to make the purchases. From the iTunes Store Home screen, click on Purchased under QUICK LINKS. On the Purchased screen, you can find previous purchases and download them into your current iTunes library.
