Welcome to the Apple Community.
The music on your shuffle will be in the iTunes library it syncs with.

Are you saying your iTunes doesn not have your songs?  If not, where would they be?  If on an older iphone, then they should have gotten there via itunes and itunes has them.

Either redownload them directly to the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
or sync them to your iPod via iTunes

I found my answer in another Thread and it worked... so for anyone who needs it, here it is:

Had the same problem and spoke with Apple Support. They had me reset the System Management Controller:
Shut down the computer. With the computer off, on the left hand side of the keyboard press shift+control+option along with the power button simultaneously and release. Wait 5-10 seconds and restart the computer.
This solved my problem and I was immediately able to purchase, download, and play an HD movie from iTunes w/o any error message.

  • Help needed with 4th gen. iPod shuffle and "reshuffling" music

I have a silver 4th gen. iPod shuffle that works well for me.     I had 196 songs on it and in the last couple of days, I added 14 more.  Now, I have 210 songs on it.  Cool.  The issue I have is NONE of the new songs play. I do get a good mixture of music and it's pretty random but in the 7 or so hours I listened to my iPod today at work, NONE of the new songs I added played at all.  I would guess at least one of the new songs would have played but none did.
I found the iPod manual online in PDF format and read the instructions for "reshuffling" the iPod, but I'm not sure that worked.   So, here are my questions:
When I add new music, must I manually "reshuffle" the songs manually or should that happen automatically?
When I "reshuffle" the songs, I follow these steps:  "To reshuffle songs, slide the three-way switch from shuffle (icon) to play in order (icon) and back to
shuffle again.  Must the iPod be playing music when I do this or does that matter?
I manually add the music to the iPod and don't automatically sync anything, nor do I have any playlists.
    Thanks in advance!
    Peace...

You may want to play the shuffle with the switch in the middle play-in-order position.  Then, when you play songs from the All Songs list, they play in alphabetical order.  That should make it easier to confirm that songs on the new batch does actually play (because the order is not random).
Also, there are only about 200 songs on there, so keep hitting Next until hear one of the new songs.  If you get back to the first song without hearing one of the new songs, something is wrong.
It should not matter when you do the reshuffle step, whether the iPod is playing or not.
Have you checked using iTunes, to confirm the new batch of songs is on the shuffle?  If the iTunes sidebar is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The shuffle appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Click the small triangle to the left of the shuffle's name, to drop down its content list (indented below the shuffle) Click on Music there.  The list of songs on the shuffle is shown to the right.  Are those 14 new songs on the list?

    Hi,
You will have to manually copy your music. Get a pen-drive big enough to accommodate all your music. And follow these steps:
    1. Create a new folder on the pen-drive.
    2. Copy the music from your work computer to the folder you just created. It's in (yourhomefolder)>Music>iTunes>iTunes Media>Music if you're using a Mac, or in C:\Users\(yourusername)\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music if you're using Windows.
    3. Now on your home computer quit iTunes, and copy your music from work to the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder in (yourhomefolder)>Music>iTunes>iTunes Media.
    4. Start iTunes. It will automatically start to process the files and move them to the appropriate place.
Repeat these steps with your music from home on your work computer. Also I suggest to use only one iTunes account if possible.
    Hope it helps
    Regards,

  • I imported a CD audio book into iTunes 11, searching says its there, but I cannot find it. It does appear in my iTunes music folder.

Using Audiobook builder I imported an audiobook CD into iTunes 11. I can see it in my iTunes music folder on the hard drive, searching in iTunes 11 says its there, but in either the albums or list, it does not appear. I have successfully imported many CDs using Audiobook Builder before, but with this particulary book I have this problem.
    Any ideas anyone ?

The missing file thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
At guess you've used a different profile name. Files inside the media folder have survied the transfer, but those outside are expected to be on the same absolute file paths, but no longer are.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

When I go to software updates on my computer it says there are no updates available.  When I try to manually update, it brings me to 9.1, not 9.0.1.  I already have downloaded 9.1 but it isn't installed because says I need to download 9.0 first.

  • Messages linked to perf degradation : 'ignoring message from a previous generation' and 'got heartbeat...but did not find reference'

    Hi,
We are facing a problem which implies bad response time from the WL server.
Our configuration is : Sun E4500, Solaris2.6, Oracle 7.3.4, WL oci driver,
no perf pack, Javasoft 1.1.7B_05 vm on server side and IBM 1.1.7B on client
    side (W98 clients).
When multiple users connect to the server (let's say from 15 simultaneous
connections) and work on our application, after few mins, the server process
logs and outputs tons of messages like :
    Mon Nov 15 16:12:26 GMT 1999:<E> <RJVM> Ignoring message from a previous
    generation: JVMMessage from 8803290290807054313C146.100.8.34

    seqNum=3151
    and
Got heartbeat for -6807808847876022584/-1838914476/0/9209 but did not find
    reference
Got heartbeat for -6807808847876022584/-1838914476/0/8979 but did not find
    reference
This is strangely related to a real degradation of the WL server response
times and sometimes to 'PeerGoneExceptions' thrown to the client (while the
    server is still alive...).
This happens either for connections on the LAN or on the WAN (frame relay
network) so I don't think this is network related. As of now, weblogic
support told us not to care about it but after analysing the messages, there
seems to be a real problem here :
What seems to happen is :
    - The server considers that the client is dead so it's closing the
connection. Eventually, the DGC cleans up references that were held by this
    client.
    - The server recieves a query from the 'still alive client' and re-opens the
    connection with the SAME id.
    - If there is a heartbeat from a DGC cleaned up object, the DGC informs that
    it 'did not find reference'.
    - It ignores the messages from the previously closed connection and tries to
    re-establish everything.
We desperately need some feed back on what is causing the server to close
the connection while the client is still alive. I've seen somewhere in this
list that there are some internal parameters in the WL server
    ('weblogic.system.idlePeriodUntilTimeout' and
'weblogic.system.periodLength') which indicates the WL server when to
consider a client as 'dead'. This is defaulted to 1 min for the first and to
4 for the second which implies that there must be at least 4 minutes during
which the client doesn't emmit 'heartbeats' for the server to know it is
    alive.
    few remarks :
1/ the client is not swapping nor GCing too long so the client vm is
    available to emmit these heartbeats.
2/ we couldn't reproduce it in our test environement except when making the
client swap for minutes which is not the case in the production env.
3/ this really seems related to multiple clients connected simultaneously to
    the server.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Michael,
We are running WL Server 404. This is the version we were advised to use for
production. We are not using the performance pack because when we turn it
on, the server behaves correctly for the first 15 mins of use and then,
stops accepting new connections and even closes the existing ones. This
behaviour seems to happen only when the server is used by multiple
concurrent users. So the only "stable" configuration we found to run the
server is Javasoft 1.1.7B (Sunsoft's jdk 1.1.7 produces a core dump after a
few minutes use) + perf pack disabled.
We have support calls open for most of these issues but I thought I would
ask the group to benefit from its experience.
    Thanks for your help.
    Vincent.

I am trying to set up a Mail account for a second user.  I have made the user account but when I try to set up Mail, it fails as if the password or e-mail is incorrect but I know it is correct.  When I try to go to Mail preferences, it is grayed out.  Any suggestions?

    1. If you haven't tried this already, just delete the user account entirely, and then try setting it up again.
    2. To find the permissions file:
         a. hold down the option key
         b. go to the Go menu in the finder
         c. scroll down to Library and open it
         d. in Library, go to Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences
         e. drag it to the trash and restart.
    3. if that doesn't work, go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. In the Keychain Access menu, do Keychain First Aid, and repair.
This should keep you busy for a while.
