I have got a airport express (1st generation) It is connected to my PC but i was wondering if there is a way to connect my iphone 5!
When i try and connect my iphone to it it using the airport utility device it says "This airport base station is not supported by this utility" And when i try and find it in my wifi it dosent even show up?! i have it pluged into speakers and want to use it for the airplay! Thank you!
Your iPhone should be able to use its wireless network without any difficulty, but AirPlay requires Firmware 7.4.2 or later. If yours can be updated AirPort Utility will let you know.
If your iPhone does not detect its wireless network then try resetting your iPhone's network settings:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Confirm the dialog, let the iPhone restart, then reconnect to your preferred network(s) in Settings > Wi-Fi.

The easiest way would be to use Back to My Mac, but that will only work if the server is a Mac running OS X 10.7 or later and you have the cooperation of the network administrator.

Airport express 1st generation on mountain lion
I have a mac os 10.8 (mountain lion): can i use an airport express 1st generation? The mac doesn't recognize it and tells me to download airport utility 5.6, but 5.6 doesn't seem to exist for 10.8, only 10.7.
Just upgraded to ML and now I can't supervise the Extreme base stations (A1088). Argh.
This should have been mentioned somewhere (during the upgrade or something). Because my devices are 1st generation devices, albeit G-mode ones. This distinction should be made clear in the documentation and/or knowledge base articles.
Also the new airport utility (6.1) suggests I install 5.6, which, even tho, available on the website it doesn't seem to be installable in ML. By the way the KB mentions that it supports Lion (10.7.2) or later.. yeah right!
Now I'm stuck with no solutions available. Any other idea before I hack together a VM just for airport utility 5.6? -

1st Generation AirPort Express will work fine with Mavericks.
Are you sure that you have a 1st Gen Express?
Check the model number on the side of the Express. 1st Gen is A1264.
If you see A1084 or A1088, these are much older versions of the Express that were sold long before Apple began to use the Generation naming with "n" wireless devices in 2007.
Mavericks will not support the A1084 or A1088. Use another Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC if you need to administer the older Express. -
Mountain Lion & Airport Express (1st generation)
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Airport Express (1st generation) has becomed unusable. How can I still use it? Feels kinda absurd, it is still working perfectly, although old.

I cannot configure my AirPort Express (1st generation) as base Station anymore. I had to reset it because I lost my password.
I first tried my IPads (IOS 6). These returned the message: Your AirPort Express cannot be configured with this software. Go to apple.com/nl/support/airport for more information.
As it is an old one, I have downloaded the eldest available AirPort Utility I could find on the Apple site (AirPort utility 5.4.2) to my computer. I ran the AirPort Setup Assistant wireless and the assistant found my AirPort named " Apple Network XXXXX". (I notes that the Assistant also returned the message: If this is not the AirPort Extreme you want to set up ...)

After trying to connect to Network, I received the message: Cannot connect to network or there are no AirPort base stations on the network.
To be sure I retried running the Assistant after connecting the computer and the AirPort using an ethernet cable. The error message was the same.
What do I do wrong?
Am I using the wrong Utility software? If so, which version do I have to download and from where?
Is a first generation AirPort anyhow compatible wth 4the generation IPads or shoud I just buy a new AirPort.
I hope someone can help me...Ok, thanks for clarifying that for me. You are correct. Your iOS devices will NOT be able to administer the 802.11g base stations because the version of the AirPort Utility that they use is incompatible.
For Windows XP, AirPort Utility for Windows v5.5.3 should work. However, v5.4.2 that you have should work as well.
Your XP computer needs to connect to the AirPort's wireless network BEFORE you can access the AirPort with the AirPort Utility. You may want to try connecting your computer directly to the AirPort using an Ethernet cable. -
Problems when trying to expand network with airport express 1st generation
Hi, I have an airport express 1st generation that never actually worked, so I lent it to a friend. Now I try to install it, in Order to expand my already existing network. Whilst airport express is trying to connect to the existing network, the airport utility programme tells me that suddenly there is no response by the airport express. When I then try to restart it, there is no sign of connection at all. I tried to download an updated version of the firmware but thats not possible since I can't get a connection to the network. Any suggestions??!

Furthermore, you will need an older version of AirPort Utility to administer it from a current production MacBook Pro.

You can use it as an additional access point in a "Roaming network". To do that requires that you connect it to your primary router with an Ethernet cable. That would be its most effective use. Currently use Airport Express -1st Generation-to access internet -purchased 2014 Airport Extreme base station -can I import Express back up configuration to keep current settings . Or is it best to do new Airport Extreme as a new Network .
Just spoke with Cisco about the router. They said the router is compatible with the E1500. They suggested that I contact Apple to see if their default IP address was that same as the router (192.168.1.1). They told me I would have to change it if that was the case. How would I do that?

The AirPort Express will connect to either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz....whichever is the stronger signal. -
i have backed up all my music on an external hard drive and i was wondering is there a quick way to put it all back on itunes.

You can import your media a couple different ways. If you plan on keeping the media on the external drive, I would just direct iTunes to read the media folder on the external. Here are the steps on how to make that change.

I have purchased a new iPad2 and I was wondering if there is a way to get iPod content onto this new device. I am having difficulty finding any information on this kind of transfer and I am not sure if it is even possible. Just not looking forward to loosing my progress in games and information in notes and other apps. Thanks
Have you been syncing the iPod with iTunes? Then you just connect the iPad and set it up through iTunes and sync any content you want onto it.

In terms of games/apps. If they are not universal (you will see a + symbol next to them) or made for iPad (you would see an HD in the name, usually) then they won't look good on an iPad as those apps will open in a iPod sized window, giving you the option to enlarge. -
I have two macs in my house. One is newer and came with the os x mountain lion software and the other one needs to be upgraded. I was wondering if there is a way to take upgrade from one to the other? Should not have to buy this software again.

I need to save some pictures from iPhoto to a SDHC photo card for a digital frame and was wondering if there is a way to shrink or compress file size for each picture as I have already cropped the pictures? Thank you
Yes, you do this when you export the images from the Library.
File -> Export
in the Size section, you don't need images larger than the frame size, so you can specify that and in the Jpeg Quality you can select the amount of compression used.

I was wondering if there is a way to shut off the install mode on my G3 every time I plug in the USB to my Mac. I have an android manager software Mobile Go that this seems to be preventing it from connecting
as62467 We appreciate your G3 question! Let's see how we can help. What you are able to adjust is the USB connection mode by going to the home screen and selecting'recent apps' (in the touch keys bar), settings,storage, the menu (the 3 tiny dots) and tap usb pc connection. If you do not want the software to try and install choose either the internet connection or camera option. Let us know if this helps.

At some point yesterday all of my saved clips from a large project adopted the "Rejected" classification and lost the "Favorite" designation that I spent the better part of one week selecting. I have no idea how this happened, I surely did not intentionally designate all my shots as Rejects, but I'm wondering if there is any way to remove the Reject designation and recover my "Favorites"? Not that it helps, but it certainly seems there should be a warning message before FCP X does something so radical. Anyone know how can I can fix this? Thanks
Do you use Time Machine? You should be able to just go back in time on the project file, right? If you don't use Time Machine, you should. A 2 TB external USB hard drive is around $113 at Amazon.com. You just plug it in and tell Time Machine to use it and you're done.
You can Select All in the Event and then click ont he grey star next to the green star to remove the Rejected status on all clips, but that won't restore your Favorites. You need to revert your project file to a backup.
