I have hard drive from trashed MBP15"..want to put iTunes music on my MBP17". The content is almost identical, but 17" has been showing a lot of "cannot be found" messages. Previous suggestions have always failed to identify which file/folder/library item

Greetings..my 15"MBP crashed. I pulled hard drive and have it available as "external drive"..with all info intact. I am currently using my 17"MBP, which has really been acting up in iTunes..many of my songs are showing the dreaded "exclaimation mark"..still don't understand how this occurs. BOTH computers are almost carbon copies of each other, so I just want to copy tunes from 15" hard drive to my 17" working computer, to try and rescue all these "lost" tunes. I've asked this before and always get several answers (for which I am grateful!)..but..they are always different.."You gotta get this library folder!..just drag and drop..erase and reinstall!.."...nothing has worked yet..I'm trying one more time. Mainly need to know which file/folder to drag to what location. Should be simple,.maybe you can help. There will be TON'S of duplicates (unless program catches this and asks if I want to import dupes!!)..so I am prepared to run "dupe-elimination" program. Thanks for your time and suggestions!

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

I just bought a MBA and I need to move my photos and itunes to an external hard drive (from my old MacBook Pro) because they won't fit on the Air.  I got the photos moved fine and I followed an online tutorial to move the necessary files for itunes, but it didn't work.  The files copied fine, but when I tell iTunes on the Air to look at the external drive for the library, it doesn't find anything.  What I copied was the entire iTunes Media folder.  So, how do I move the necessary iTunes files from my old Pro to a external drive so I can access them from my new Air?  Whew!

iTunes- How to move the library to an EHD
After you move the library you need to open iTunes by first depressing the OPTION key then launching iTunes. You will be given a choice of which library to use. This can then be made a permanent change, if you wish, in the Advanced section of iTunes preferences.

in on asset class i have created 2 assets by using of aso1 after that i acquired one asset for that i run the depreciation for first 5 periods, it has been showing depreciation for those period but if i am trying to run the depreciation for second asset it is not showing first 5 periods why it is not showing? Is there any reason?

    Hi
Repeat run you can do only for the last depreciation period. For the asset which you are tryin to post depreciation from July to Jan, please check the asset value date which you have given while posting the transactions or in the asset master.
If the asset value date is in July, then deprecaition from July - Jan will get posted in the current month depreciation in total. You will not be able to post depreciation individually month wise using AFAB.

  • I transferred my itunes to an external hard drive from my mac, now all of my music needs to be located. Help...

I moved my itunes library to an external hard drive, now all of the music says it needs to be located. Not sure, but I believe it is not directed properly.

if you do iTunes > Preferences> Advanced you can change the location of where your music is stored.  Click on change location and direct it to your external hard drive.  Of course, your external hard drive will need to be connected to your computer to play the music.
When you moved your music to an external hard drive, did you copy the folders or move the folder off your computer completely? I copied the folders, and left iTunes folder in my Music folder and all seems to work fine. one hitch can be is that your Library in iTunes will list all of your content, but if you have some albums on the hard drive of your computer and some on your external hard drive, iTunes will need to be told where to locate these files.

  • External hard drive crashed...need to move iTunes music files

I had all my music on an external hard drive which recently crashed. Fortunately I did have the library xml file on my laptop hard drive so I still have the library info, playlists, play count, etc. So I used 3rd party software to dump the music files from my iPod back on to another external hard drive. However, when I go to preferences and change the iTunes directory to that folder it still does not recognize the songs. I have gray exclamation marks beside each song and when I try to play songs it says that it can not locate the file. I have a huge library with close to 13,000 songs in it so I am really trying to figure out the easiest way to restore the music back to library so everything will play. Can someone please help me figure out what I need to do. So to summarize I still have the library xml files...I just need to know how to associate the actual songs with the library so that when I try to play a song I do not get an error message saying the file can not be found.

If I do that won't I have duplicates of songs and will the songs that are added have the play count and etc?

  • I am trying to install Adobe Encore, but it has been discontinued. Can I install and activate a previous version using my Single App Premier Pro membership?

I am trying to burn and author a Blu Ray DVD. I do not have a usable version of Encore , as it has been discontinued. I currently have a Single App membership for Premier Pro CC.
I was advised to install Premier Pro CS6 as Encore comes with this package. I did this, and the software downloaded but an error message came up saying my membership had expired. I think this is because I do not have permission to run Preier Pro CS6 using my Premier Pro CC membership. How can I get the software using my current membership? Or do I need to upgrade my membership to a full Creative Cloud membership in order to use Encore?

    CS5-thru-CC PPro/Encore tutorial list http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1448923 will help
The bottom section of the link above has several Adobe links, and other information, on downloading Premiere Pro CS6 and the bundled Encore CS6, and the TWO ADDED downloads for the Encore library content, to author a DVD or BluRay... and the tutorial list includes learning how to use Encore... pay particular attention to the picture in reply 3 at this link - https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1516173 (picture first posted by Ann Bens and reposted by Stan Jones)

  • I just got a new Macbook and I put all music on a flash drive from my PC to mac. Some music (seems to be the newer purchases) are grayed out and will not play??

I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. All of my music was on a PC computer. I don't really know how to work with PCs but I am more than familiar with Macs. I have an iPhone with all of the grayed out music on it and they play fine. They play on the PC too. But when I transferred them over, they just won't play. There is also a little cloud with an arrow pointing downward which I thought meant download.
So I read another thread that said to log out of itunes and this would be fixed. I logged out and back in again and now the grayed out music is GONE. Just gone. I have everything on a flash drive still, so no big deal but is there a way I can get all of the music to download? And not be grayed out this time?

    Hi there,
It sounds like your purchased content is not transfering via a flash drive. It may be easier to re-download this contnet directly from iTunes. Take a look at the article below for mor information.

  • Is it posible to use a sata hard drive from pc in bootcamp

Hello! my old laptop (pc) died a month ago and i have the sata hard drive from it. i was wondering if it is posible to run the hard drive externally or internally in my macbook pro running 10.7.5 lion in boot camp or something? the hard drive is in tact and has windows 7 already installed. i just need to know if it is posible to use or not. i see pages about using bootcamp to get windows 7 internally but nothing like this. and i dont wanna pay to talk to apple support -.-

If you install the drive internally, you will of course no longer have access to OS X, though the drive should startup. Badly though since the drivers for your Mac's hardware won't be on the drive. I don't recall if Windows 7 will boot from an external drive. I believe Windows itself doesn't allow it and will refuse to startup from an external if you try.
Do note that this is a lot of work.
Since I'm pretty certain you cannot boot Win 7 from an external drive, you have to get it on your internal. To move the install you have so you don't have to install Win 7 and all of your installed software from scratch, you need a third party software package.
    1) Purchase Winclone. Follow their instructions for preparing your Win 7 install from a PC to a BootCamp partition. This does involve having the Windows drive in a working PC.
    2) Use Disk Utility to create a FAT32 partition at the size you want Win 7 to occupy. You can do this without reformatting the drive. Make sure you have a complete, restorable backup of your Mac before proceeding in case something goes wrong, or you goof up. Launch Disk Utility and click on the physical drive name of the Mac's drive. Click the Partition tab. Drag the bottom right corner of the Mac's current partition up to create an unused area on the drive. You will only be able to drag it up as far as there is no live data, which will be shown in blue. Make sure not to crowd your OS X partition and starve it for space. Click the + button. A new partition will fill the empty space you made. By default, it will be Mac OS Extended. Change it to MS-DOS, which will be a FAT32 partition. Click Apply. Don't worry that it's not NTFS. When you restore your Win 7 disk image, it will automatically become the same file system as the source.
    3) There is the issue of partition size. If a cloned Windows drive takes up 500 GB on its source drive, that's how much room it will take up on the target drive, no matter how big of a partition you made for it. Say you only want Windows to only take up 100 GB of space. When you restore the clone, it will force the partition size out to 500 GB, because that's the amount of space it took up originally. This is not an issue with Winclone. It's just what Windows does when being cloned. Using something like Symantec's Ghost to restore a Windows disk image on a PC will do the same thing. It will only become smaller if the overall size of the target drive itself is smaller and it can't take up its original amount of space. To force the target partition size down, you have to shrink the Winclone image. I've done this myself, and it does work.
    4) Once you finally get the Windows clone onto your Mac's internal drive, follow only the BootCamp instructions to get the Win 7 drivers for your Mac ready. Boot into Win 7 and install the initial Win 7 drivers for your Mac.
    5) Once that's done, the graphics will be rough at this point. You'll now have an Apple Software Update menu item in Windows. Run that to download and install any other BootCamp drivers it lists. When you restart after that, the desktop should then be correct.

  • Can I transfer a hard drive from one macbook pro laptop to another?

I have a 2009 Macbook pro with a cracked screen and a messed up track pad (laptop A), but a fully functional hard drive. I have another 2009 Macbook pro (laptop B) with a blown hard drive, but everything else seems to be fine.
I removed the blown hitachi 320 hard drive from laptop B and set it aside. Then I removed the seemingly good Seagate 500 hard drive from laptop A and put it into laptop B. When I turn on Laptop B with the hard drive in it I get the folder with the question mark screen.
HELP. I am not tech savvy at all. But I can follow directions. Thanks.
    Monica
*Please let me know if you need additional information from me.

Restart the computer with the Option key held down.
If you see the drive, click on it and then select it in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
If you don’t, insert a Mac OS X install DVD, press C if needed, and either repair the drive or install an OS onto it.

  • Using the Hard Drive from my old iMac

I have just purchased a new 2.8 Intel core 2 duo iMac and was wondering if I could somehow use the hard drive from my old iMac.
What I have done is buy a case for the hard drive from my old iMac thus making it an external. The question that I have is that since it [the old hard drive] is running OS 10.4 will my new Intel iMac even recognize it.
I would like to somehow switch ALL my vast iTunes library from the old hard drive to my new Intel iMac without have to resort to making as many as 15 data disk. If such a thing is possible how do I go about doing so?
Another thing that I would like to do once my iTunes library is on my new Intel iMac is use the old hard drive [since it is 500GBs] as the platform for all my games and my publishing interest. Doing so would allow me to free up space that I could more readily use for other interest on the 350GB hard drive that my new iMac came with.
HOW do I go about wiping the old hard drive clean so that I can use it thus?
Thank you all for any and all help and insight that you might give me.

You might also consider connecting the two computers into a network, and then transferring the files you need, or even keep both computers online and use network sharing to access files from both computers.
In reference to your question, if you extract the hard drive from your old Mac and put it in an external case, your new Mac will read it no prob. (10.4 is compatible with 10.5). The hard drive can be formatted (wiped clean) using Disk Utility application (click Application, Utilities).
In terms of importing files from old to the new Mac, you might consider using using the automated OS X feature to transfer user files from another Mac.

It is not showing on the Desktop or the left colomn of Finder (Set to do both in Finder Prefernces) and is not showing up under the Disk application under Utilities (Sorry can't remember the name off the top of my head!)

You should be able to read NTFS formatted drives, just not write to them. For that matter, USB Flash drives generally come formatted NTFS for use with PC's and they have to be able to mount on a Mac in order to reformat them for Mac use. The Windows utilities supplied on those Flash drives will be deleted when the drive is reformatted for Mac use so I routinely copy them to the Mac desktop first before reformatting.
You might look into something like this http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/U3NVSPATA/ if the enclosure is an issue. It looks weird but it works.

  • Access Time Capsule's Hard Drive from Windows Vista

Hi, I have a Time Capsule connected to my network.... It works beautifully with with my Mac mini and Macbook Pro on wired and wireless... I can easily connect to TC's hard drive and share files between the two.... I was wondering if I can access the hard drive from my Windows Vista PC that is also connected... I tried to access (The device is classified as unknown by windows) it but it I get an error message (the properties cannot not be found) from the network setup center ... Is there an easy way so I can access TC hard drive from my PC???? Thanks...

I don;t know about Vista, but I have no trouble with the several flavors of XP that are in the house.
In the Airport Utility _> Manual Setup -> Disks ->File Sharing, I have entered the Workgroup name that is used by the Windows machines, and the Time Capsule password is the same as that of the Admin user on the XP machines.
If you haven't set the workgroup maybe that will help.

As I said, I don't use Time Machine, so it'd be best to wait for an "expert" answer, but, with my very limited knowledge, I'd say: probably not - so, for now, I'd suggest you read up on Time Machine:

And, you might be attracting more knowledgeable answers if you were to post this question in the Time Machine Forum (part of the Snow Leopard forums).
