It is not showing on the Desktop or the left colomn of Finder (Set to do both in Finder Prefernces) and is not showing up under the Disk application under Utilities (Sorry can't remember the name off the top of my head!)

You should be able to read NTFS formatted drives, just not write to them. For that matter, USB Flash drives generally come formatted NTFS for use with PC's and they have to be able to mount on a Mac in order to reformat them for Mac use. The Windows utilities supplied on those Flash drives will be deleted when the drive is reformatted for Mac use so I routinely copy them to the Mac desktop first before reformatting.

It certainly sounds like a bad HD to me. Back up your data and then take it in or call Apple. -
My iPod Touch is stuck. I can't get it to power off. All that comes up on the screen is the Apple Logo. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?
You may need to hold the sleep/wake button and the home button until the apple logo appears. Or anther thing you can try is draining the battery until the battery is dead. That's what i tried and worked. You may need to do those things more than 2 times. OH anther thing is you can try connecting you ipod to your computer and see if it appears on itunes. If those don't work you can send it to apple. So that's what helped me I hope I answered your question.

There are several very good third-party podcast apps you can download from the app store.
Personally, I'm very happy with "DownCast". I've given up on the apple podcast app, and DownCast seems to do everything I need. My whole family uses it. -
After updating my iPod 4 and my iPhone 3gs to 5.1 it keeps turning itself off whenever I'm trying to load a larger web-page, or doing some hard operations. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Have yu tried the standard fixes:
- Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
- Restore from backup

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:

Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.

Now that I am using it as an external drive, how do I get the harddrive I removed from my laptop to display like it did when it was still in the laptop , when I connect it to a new computer?. I can't locate my Firefxox bookmarks that I originally saved to the HD when it was in the laptop. The laptop is dead but fortunately I was able to salvage the hard drive. I Need help urgently since I have tons of bookmarked pages and saved passwords that are critical to my work and life. The original laptop that the HD came from has a Windows Vista OS. I have recently bought a Seagate Goflex satellite mobile wireless hardrive , i have converted some of my AVI movies to MP4 and loaded them onto the hard drive, when I try and play them through my I pad2 I can hear the sound of the movie but not see the film, somebody please help, what am I doing wrong as I have spent a lot of time converting these movies to be able to travel with my iPad and watch them. Unfortunately, the drive is pretty much restricted without hacking it. That is, you can't stream its content via standardized protocols like UPnP, SMB, FTP and the like. This makes you won't be able to access its content from any third-party apps otherwise capable of playing back AVI files from UPnP / SMB / FTP / WebDAV etc. sources.
While this is certainly not a recommendation (I can in no way be held responsible if anything goes wrong): you may want to consider extending the capabilities of the drive by installing the hack: http://www.hackseagatesatellite.com/wordpress/welcome/
It'll "open" the drive for third-party, AVI-capable multimedia apps like GoodPlayer, It's Playing etc. to directly play the files over the network. -

I want to run both my macbook pro and imac from a single external hard drive.
i bought a time capsual and set it us as my network and plugged my external hard drive into it. so now both my computers can access it and work on the same image and film files. the time capsual does a lovely job of backing up both my computers and my wifes. but i cant get it to back up the external hard drive that is conected to it. ive looked on the forum and it seems to me that its not possible, which seems odd to me that mac would enable you to plug a hard drive into the time capsual but not let you back it up, what is the point in that!?

I did the upgrade to maverics on my imac which has caused me a major headache as now all my apature albums have been updated to 3.5.1 but my macbook pro can no longer open them because im unable to upgade it to maverics, but thats another story.

The TC for whatever it is promoted as,, is still a simple hard disk in a router. It was designed for laptops to use as a backup. A desktop can use a USB drive, faster cheaper and more reliable than a network drive but the laptops need a network wireless storage. Hence the TC. It is NOT nor was it ever designed to do the job you are trying to use it for.. it is not a NAS.. it has no internal backup.
What is more Time Machine has no ability to backup network drives no matter what their format.
So the solution is to either use a real backup software.. eg Carbon Copy Cloner which can do far more than TM can or ever will. It is around $40 so hardly expensive. But since the TC was never designed for it, this will be slow.. and the next question is where are you going to back to. Using the TC as backup location for your files is less than great. Primarily because all your files are still on the same device albeit on different disk. It is also because mixing data and TM backups is not so great. The TC cannot be partitioned although you can alleviate some of the issues..

Fundamentally the TC is the wrong place to do this.
The right place is to plug the USB drive into the iMac.. since it is a desktop machine and you are probably not lugging it around. Simply share the USB drive to the network.
The MBP can then access the USB drive, and it will be around twice the speed of networking to the same drive on the TC. TM on the iMac can then also backup the USB drive to the TC as part of the normal TM backups.
The only thing is the iMac needs to be turned on to allow MBP access. -

You could contact a specialist such as they are equipped to handle portable Mac computers and have adequate knowledge, skill, ability and parts usually on hand for most older and newer Macs; including out of warranty.
Been awhile since my portables had an issue, I found good reports on a company in North Carolina and contacted them by email and also by toll-free phone call; then I mailed an ailing iBook G3 there via USPS. The NC company I chose did a good job on the repair and later when I upgraded to a later model, that iBook was still in fine shape and the next owner had a great first Apple experience with it. I was sure to include all software discs and hardware parts, and the box and book with it, too.
While I found the local companies here at the time would only send my computer away to some distant out of state repairer (and not to Apple, as it was out of warranty, etc) then add a 100% premium markup over cost) I read comments online and decided on one company that way, perhaps the most distant from here, in small town AK.
You could check out 'wegenermedia dot com' and contact them by phone, to inquire how to best proceed; they have nearly every part in stock for most portable Macs, and qualified service personnel on staff... While there are a few others, I found from this company I was dealing with the owners and technicians directly.
Anyway, hopefully this helps somewhat.

How do I get a replacement for a bad hard drive from Apple?
I just replaced a Fujitsu hard drive in my iBook G3 because the S.M.A.R.T. status read as a fatal hardware error. The drive is under 3 years old which should be under warranty. But Fujitsu says that I have to go through Apple to get a replacement since it's an OEM drive. Does anyone know how I can do this with Apple or should I just bug fujitsu until they give in? Has anyone else had this happen?
I believe you're out of luck.
The time to ask for a replacement is when you have a drive that isn't working. Apple isn't going to replace a drive. Their warranty is for one year. They may have gone to bat for you if you hadn't already replaced the drive.
Fujitsu is under no obligation to reimburse you for a Seagate drive. If you had approached them when your drive went out, you may have had a claim. Since you replaced it on your own, they see no liability.
If you want to recover something, you may have to resort to the legal system, which may or may not result in a successful outcome. -
It is refurbished and looks to be in perfect condition and was bought from the apple store, including box and serial number. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do.
