I have lost my iPhone 4S. I did not have the find my iPhone application on my phone. Is there any means of, finding my handset and retrieving photos and contacts?
Report it to police as stolen. No other option.

If you enable find my iphone in settings>icloud on the iPhone then follow the steps in the article below to either lock or trace the iPhone:

Other then that contact your carrier and local law enforcement and see if there is anything they can do to help.

the phone can always be tracked using the IMEI number and tri connection tower calucations police use this in cases of missing persons they need to present a warrent to get the carriers to track them though
and it's a costly thing so doubt they would do it on account of a stolen phone
you can use your old phone if it's gsm by putting in a sim card from the carrier if it's not gsm but cmda then you should talk to the carrier
you can restore the iphone 3gs with the backup of the newer ios version but you can use the same appleID and access apps tied to it -

You need to use the Find My iPhone app (in the itunes store - free). When invoking it on a device, you enter the ID password of the account the lost device is connected to. You can also use a computer's browser and log into icloud.com.

I know, I always do that but I was in a rush to get somewhere and I was relying on my thousand dollar Mac to do some kind of recovery or something. I know Microsoft always keeps temporary files (I think Mac does too, part of me asking here in this forum was for someone to tell me where I can find those files) and when you go to open Office Works then it gives you the option of opening the last recent documents, saved or not saved.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Somehow, my iTunes music vanished from iTunes. I was able to restore my music from Time Machine, but I lost my playlists and song ratings. Does anyone know how I can restore the playlists and ratings? Thanks in advance for any help.
iTunes as you see it is more than just a file or two. It is all the contents of the iTunes folder including the critical library.itl file. That holds pretty much all the information about what you see when you start iTunes. You need to restore the whole iTunes folder, not just media files.

Only i you have a backup from the time before you lost the photos to restore from. Pictures taken with the camera are part of the backup.
If you don't have that backup anymore, your pictures are gone.
And, you can only restore the whole backup data, not only parts of it. -
I lost all of my notes after switching my icloud account, is there any way to get them back??
I decided to switch my icloud email to a more frequently used email. After doing this I went to check my notes (where I kept a lot of important things) and found that there was nothing there. It has been really stressing me out because I believe that when it asked if I wanted to delete the account from my phone, I said yes. I am really freaking out here, and could use some advice. If you backup with iTunes and you restored from the backup and the notes were gone, then there is no where to retrieve them from unless you have another backup that contains those notes.
Launch iTunes on the computer and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices. You will see a window with all of your backups listed in it.
If you see a recent backup that you are certain contains the notes that you need, recover deleted notes from iPhone backup.
