I have over 70 Gigs of "other" of space on my mac, What is this and how do I get rid of it?

I may put windows on my computer to game, but I have no clue what this "other" is and I want it gone! Hopefully someone can help!

3. Delete "Recovered Messages", if any.
    Hold the option key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
    Select "Library" from the dropdown.
    Library > Mail > V2 > Mailboxes
    Delete "Recovered Messages", if any.
    Empty Trash. Restart.
4. Repair Disk

If this does not help, you have to move iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes data to an external HD.

That icon indicates your iPhone is rotation locked.
To remove it, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center. Tap the similar looking icon there to turn it off.

A misleading and malicious popup. Launch Safari with the Shift key held down; if that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.

When I plug in my iPod nano 4th gen to iTunes and click on my iPod, I can see a graph showing how much space is available on my iPod and what it is being taken up by. A lot of space is taken up by 'other'. What is this? I have a big iTunes library, with about 2000 songs, so I don't want all this space taken up by something I don't know what it is. How can I get rid of it?

Lock symbol is rotation lock : depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can lock rotation either by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon; press home again to exit the taskbar. I would probably suggest backing up them photos to your computer and then performing a restore on the phone which will wipe everything off and start again.

Other is data that does not fit into the rest of the catergories listed on the summary tab. This includes user data and app settings/data.
3.5 GB is a lot... and typically indicates corruption.
You can try a reset of the device and re-syncing, sometime this will clear it up... but typically the resolution is to restore the device from backup first. If that doesn't resolve a restore as new will.
Other should be in the range of 300-800mb.

In my case, this must be me. My iPhone has a bug - it's not any of the other things that are considered "other". It's just an issue. I've researched for over an hour, reduced every settings imagineable (Other doesn't go down - in fact, it goes up, almost like, because I freed up space, it wants to fill in the remaining space). I called Apple - after one hour of being inadvertently hung up on twice (they took my number to call me back in case disconnected and never did - amazing) and then talking to another 3 reps, they just "guessed" which I find offensive to my time - just say "I don't know but if you are willing to take a chance, here's a thought..." rather than not be able to say "I don't know". Warning: Resets DO NOT solve this problem unless you do a clean wipe out and start from scratch (w/o restoring your stuff). Two hours later, I've resolved to wipe out my phone.
