I have upgraded to Mavericks, iphoto is now saying my version is out dated, everything else is fine this is the only problem. Tried looking for updates etc, to no avail.....any ideas???

Check your version of iPhoto. If it is iPhoto 08 7.1.5 from OSX days it is old and if you want a current version you will need to purchase it on the Apple App store.

  • I have upgraded to Mavericks and I now cannot import DV into FCP through the capture presets.

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I cannot import DV vision through my Sony FX-1E. I have tried various connections - DV to Firewire 400 + 800 with no success. I now have to get the vision ingested at another facility and exported to a hard drive in order to edit.
Is there a way I can get vision into FCP?

FCP (not FCPX) is legacy software, now EOL and not designed or guaranteed to work with Mavericks, some people report no problems others do, it depends on your setup. I'd suggest using iMovie to capture your footage then transfer to FCP to save using (or paying) another facility. An alternative (and my own solution) is a second boot drive with 10.8.5 and FCP 7 which still works OK.

I did do an upgrade since the G5 had been out in a studio for some time, away from internet. This may have efected it...? Battery is still on the hard drive and all components. I says that it cannot find the Installer... and refuses to read it from the disk. I'm struggling here folks. Would really appreciate some help if anyone knows more.

  • I cannot update Firefox, my computer is claiming that I need admin permission (everything else updates fine) I am the admin for this computer and I have the password. Any ideas?

I cannot update Firefox, I've tried disabling firewalls etc. My computer claims that I need admin permission to update Firefox although I am the owner and administrator of this computer. There are updates available and know the admin password for this computer. It started when I installed the Noscript tool (which I have tried disabling with the same results)
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week

    1. Download either the zipped form (or the portable form) of the latest version of FireFox.
    2. Unzip (or execute the portable version) into a scratch directory. (If using the portable version, find the scratch subdirectory with the same contents as the firefox directory in the "program files" - probably called "firefox". You may have to look for it - it's buried)
    3. Erase the contents of the firefox subdirectory in the Program Files directory,
    4. and copy into "Program Files/firefox" directory the unzipped files (or the files in the portable subdirectory labelled "firefox" - the one that has the set of files and directories just like the ones you erased.).
    It worked for me.

  • I have upgraded to Mavericks and I have no iPhoto at all

I'm not talking about my old iphoto not working. I'm saying that since I have cleaned installed Mavericks iPhoto is simply not there and the only option Apple Store allows me is to buy the app? Are you serious? I have for as long as I remember having apple computers I've used iPhoto. All my life in photos is in my iPhoto library. I own 4 mac computers and iphone and ipad and I have no right to download a copy of iPhoto?
This surely must be some sort of mistake of the appstore not recognicing my account or something...
I already lost hundreds of apps purchased in my US account when I decided to move to Europe because apple was imcapable of consolidating my accounts and now this?
    Please help
    Thanks Mikki

Please tell us the version of iPhoto that you erased. We need to know the version number and how you iPhoto originally installed to help you, to find a way to restore it. without information there is nothing we can do other than sympathise with the fix you are in.
Did you buy iPhoto on an iLife install disk? Then use this disk to reinstall.
Did you buy it from the AppStore? Then look at the "Purchased" tab, after signing in with the account you used to buy iPhoto.
Or did iPhoto come preinstalled on one of your macs? If it came with a mac sold with MacOS X Lion or later, iPhoto should be available at the AppStore, with the account you used to set-up your Mac. You should see it at the  "Purchased" tab - you may need to "Accept" it.
If iPhoto came preinstalled on a Mac that sold with Snowleopard, you will find it on one of the installation disks for bundled applications that came with the macs.
If the iPhoto version you own is not iPhoto '11 but an earlier version of iPhoto, it cannot be updated for free to a version that is fully compatible with Mavericks - you will have to upgrade, and that requires buying the upgraded iPhoto from the AppStore.
Is iPhoto the only program that you lost by clean installing? If there are more applications missing, where you cannot locate the installers or serial numbers, it would be preferable to revert to the previous version from your Time Machine backup (only possible, if you have made a full backup before upgrading), and then upgrade regularly, without wiping out everything. A clean install is only necessary in an emergency, if you are experiencing serious problems with a corrupted system.
See, if you can revert to your previous system:  OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version

I have upgraded to Maverick. Now I can't open any of my Quark 9.5.4.1 files. The files open almost all the way, and then just stop. I've tried restarting, and creating new Quark preferences. Any suggestions?

Or you may obtain iWork '09 DVD package from Amazon online et al. Sold at very low price now. It is really worth it. Don't forget to apply the iWork 9.0.3 updater after intalling it.

  • I have upgraded to Maverick when i connect an external hard drive my security does not scan it now

I have upgraded to Maverick.  With snow leopard when I connected an external hard drive, the Norton security would scan this drive. Since I have had Maverick this does not happen, I have updated my security.

How is the WD drive formatted and have you tried resetting the SMC?

  • How do I activate my Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator applications now that I have upgraded to Mavericks?

Since I have upgraded to Mavericks MacOSX 10.9.1  -  I am unable to open either my Adobe Photoshop CS and Adobe Illustrator CS programmes. Is there a simple solution to this? My QuarkXpress 9.3 programme made the change over successfully!

If all you did was install Mavericks over an older OS, you shouldn't have to do anything.
If you erased the drive before installing Mavericks, then Adobe's servers don't know that you are installing the software on the same computer. Meaning, if you forgot to deactivate the software before erasing the drive, then as far as Adobe's servers know, you still have two computers with that serial number activated, and it won't allow a third.
If you still have a full backup of your previous OS, restore it. Then deactivate the Adobe software. To save from having to overwrite your Mavericks install (mind you, this is all assuming you did an erase and install), create a separate partition on any drive to restore the previous OS and its apps to. Do the deactivation and remove the temporary partition. You should then be able to go back to the Mavericks drive and activate the software.
If you did do an install of Mavericks over your previous OS and the Adobe software is still balking when it shouldn't, then you'll have to contact Adobe and straighten it out through them.

  • After upgrading to Mavericks, iPhoto does not work

I have an iMac early 2011, with dual hard drives. After upgrading to Mavericks, iPhoto and several other apps are no longer "installed". The following apps have a white circle with a line through it in my main Applications folder on my primary hard drive: Calculator, Chess, Font Book, iChat, iPhoto, Mail, Photo Booth, Preview, Safari, System Prefernces. Also, under the Utilities folder, these are inaccessible: Activity Monitor, System Information, Disk Utility.
    I tried following this thread's advice: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5539268
I had iPhoto 9.3.2 on my main drive. I downloaded the 9.4.3 upgrade from here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/#consumersoftware
When I try to install, I get the following message: iPhoto 9.1 or later is required to install this update. Where did my software disappear to?
Every Apple upgrade so far has been a nightmare. A previous upgrade of iPhoto bricked the computer and had to bring it to professionals to fix. I am dreading the 10.9.2 "critical upgrade" for the OS that keeps poping up. The Mavericks upgrade also wiped out my Adobe Creative Suite install and several other apps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need iPhoto ver 9.5.1 to be Maverick compatable.
Use the software update, look for the new app in your Applications folder along side your old versions of iPhoto. Drag the new icon down to the Dock.
Moving from 10.6.8 the old PowerPC apps are no longer supported. I believe Lion you could still run  the Rosetta to keep the old ppc apps alive. No more with Mountain Lion and now Mavericks. Sooner or later you have to keep up with technology and keep apps up to date.

Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

When you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data.

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and I now cannot find under the file menu the option to "Save As" in my Numbers application. Where did it go?

In many, many apps Apple has now created a confusing array of "save as..", "export", and "duplicate" all doing essentially the same thing - saving a new copy elsewhere possibly with format changes.  Drives me nuts.
    But its always there.

  • I have upgraded to IOS 7 and now I wish I did not as I have lost face time and iMessage and they would not get activated no mater what I have tried .it seems they are trying to get connected but are unable to do so.

I have upgraded to IOS 7 and now I wish I did not as I have lost face time and iMessage and they would not get activated no mater what I have tried .it seems they are trying to get connected but are unable to do so.
It is becoming frustrating to try to get it activated .
I do not know how to get it activated when it keeps informing me that there is no net work connected
Could not sign in please check your network connection and try again.
For both iMessage and FaceTime .
Any radical solution that you have will be appreciated as it is becoming frustrating .

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore and you have IOS-6 or lower, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

    Dick,
You should be looking in the Mavericks forum, Maps is integrated into Mavericks so you will probably find some clues there. Also here is an article you may find useful:
