I installed the 10.5 update on my Vista computer. Could not access itunes store. So I uploaded a previous version. Now I cannot access the itunes at all. I get this message:The file I tunes libray.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer
version.
Help! I can't access anything. This all started because I was unable to get my ipod to play via USB in my vehicle. It reccognized it and saw the songs, but wouldn't play.
I need to get my library back!

The file "itunes library.itl" canot be read because it was created by a new version
Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

Why am i seeing "i tunes library can't be read because it was created by a newer version
I have been trying everything to get my itunes to work again. I keep getting the message "itunes library.itl can't be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I can't get anything to work.
This would suggest that you have installed an older version of iTunes. Either install the most recent version or restore an older version of your library file from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. Copy the dated file into the main iTunes folder. Rename the current iTunes Library.itl file as iTunes Library (broken).itl, then renamed the restored file as iTunes Library.itl

Hi I'm having problems installing and starting itunes program on Windows 7 64bit. After install the following error message is flagged - The file "i Tunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would really appreciate any pointers!
Never mind sorted it out lol. Somebody did a system restore of a week or so. I had done the update during that time and it was lost. Just redownloaded itunes from the internet and its working fine now.

I cannot get i-tunes. I tried the download, but no help. I get an error message The file "iTunes library itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Any suggestions?
If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.
Not sure if the following site/link will tell the method...
•Apple - Support - iTunes - install & update:

Good luck & happy computing!

updated iTunes and now get an error message that the file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. ??
hello!
i have a similiar problem:
i upgraded my mac from 10.6.8 to 10.7.something recently, but i did NOT update itunes, still running version 10.4.1. now i wanted to open itunes but it tells me, that my iTunes Library.itl was created by a newer version of iTunes - which i never used!
its annoying since i dont want to be forced to download a 720MB pckage of itunes every month - even more so, if the system start "lying" to me.
or is it another problem? anyone got the same? any solution? maybe an erratic prompt?
thanks, florian -
I updated to the newest version of iTunes and now I can not open the program. I get the message "The file iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes". What now? I'm using Windows Vista.
Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
1. Delete old Library file
2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension - 'iTunes Library'
You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file. -
when i open itunes the warning itunes Library.itl appears with the following message. ..."it cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. after checking software updates we have the lastest version. What to do?
Perhaps check to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes. There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:

I downloaded update for iTunes when the computer restarted it said I had perform a system restore. After restore a message says " The file "iTunes Libary.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. She I remove iTunes and reinstall it? Or can I perform the update from online? Thank you for your help!!
See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. This message may sometimes be caused by a corrupt library database rather than an outdated version of iTunes.

Since yesterday I have been trying to get my iTunes to allow me to sync my iPhone with it to get the latest update. However, once I finally managed to download it iTunes would now allow for it to sync, telling me I needed the 64 bit iTunes which I already had and had downloaded at least 4 times trying to get it to work.
I followed someone elses advice and uninstalled all apple products and went to reinstall it and now I am getting the following message.
The file "i Tunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? And possibly even my other problem with the inability to sync my iPhone with iTunes?
Thank you.no one?

"The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." Updates were only offered by Apple when I'd open iTunes. Now I can't open iTunes. How can I access the newest iTunes as an update, not a new program?
this just started w/ me yesterday. I was running 10.5.3, and nothing changed - the message just appeard out of nowhere. I update to the latest iTunes 10.6 but the message is the same.
Sounds like probably some sort of Library file corruption.
The two options available in the message box are "Download" and "Quit". Download is useless because I'm already running the latest. Quit is pretty useless.
I was going to just create a new Library and re-import all my music. Of course, all my iPhone sync settings are going go have to be recreated. -
The file i tunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes?
I got this message after trying to open up itunes . I recently did a system restore to my computer to a restore point i made a couple days ago
My itunes library was huge and very organized have I lost it all because I restored my pc to 7 days ago????? SERIOUSLY I GOOGLED THIS and I HAVE READ SO MANY DIFFERENT ANSWERS ITS ANNOYING!!!!
I have windows vista
CAN SOMEBODY JUST GIVE ME A SOLUTION TO HOW TO GET MY ITUNES(PLAYLISTS AND ALL) BACK!!!!!
dont give me a way that deletes all my playlists because i had way over 1,000 playlists divided into Folders it was super organized! It sounds as though the system restore that you've done has reverted your computer back to a previous version of iTunes. In iTunes look at Help/About iTunes and as the scroll runs, you will see the iTunes version number.
The latest version of iTunes (on the day of writing) is 10.5.1.42, so if your iTunes is lower than that, it's possible that's what the problem is. (This assumes that you were previously using 10.5.1.42, which is a reasonable assumption.)
So make sure you have the latest version. I don't know why you did the system restore on your computer, but despite what some people may have you believe, iTunes is very stable and unlikely to be causing any issues on your computer that need to be undone with a system restore.
