I installed the new update of OS X and now find the iMessages are different colors or shades of gray. Why?

Why are iMessages coming thru in different colors from different people? I haven't assigned color tags to these people. How did this happen and how can i change it?

Have you checked your sound prefs after you updated the OS? It's possible they got changed during the update.

Try a Reset...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons...
If no joy...
Make sure you have the Latest Version of iTunes (v11) Installed on your computer
iTunes free download from www.itunes.com/download
Then...
1) Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and Restore

Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Once you have Recovered your Device...

HT5457 Just did the IOS6 update on my Iphone5 and now all my contracts are gone, how do I get them back

I did the lastes update on my Iphone 5 and later when I went to my contracts they were all gone. The update had something to do with the cloud but I don't remember if I ever set up a Icloud account.

Given the state your device is in you have already erased your old stuff. You have an image on the screen that says, "Connect to iTunes." That's what the image means. So you will need iTunes on your computer.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

Since you have Pages '09 documents it is safe to assume that you own Pages '09. If you bought it from the App Store you should be able to download it again to your new machine. If you have the install disks, you can install it on the new machine and the find the updater for it.
Or you can go to the Apple Store (make an appointment) and get them to install iWork '09 on your machine. They will do this for free if you can provide any proof that you owned it on your older machine. They may do it for free anyway.
As others said, your '09 files should open, so perhaps they were '08 files. In which case you must open with '09 first. For this reason Apple will sometimes give you a free version of iWork '09. If you are not near an Apple Store try phoning them. No guarantees, but others have reported that Apple sent them a free DVD.
Worse comes to worse, look to buy it on Amazon or eBay, but try Apple first.

An iPhone backup to a computer via iTunes stores the photos in a backup file that is only meant to be be used if needed to restore back to the phone. There is 3rd party "extractor" software available but otherwise the photos are not directly viewable.
The backup via iTunes was a good idea and your Camera Roll photos should be there and should be able to be restored to your new phone. However if it was me I wouldn't rely on that alone. I would also import the photos to a computer where you can see and verify that you have a copy. That is a good idea at any time (not just when you know you might need it). Any phone can be lost, broken, suffer hardware issues, etc at any time and lose all data on it. Pages 5 now uses the system-level auto-correction in System Preferences > Keyboard > Text. Unfortunately, a lot of the options available in previous versions of Pages no longer exist.

I called Vodafone corporate help desk as I have a company phone :-
I was told to hold down the off button at the top of the handset at the same time as holding down the round menu button at the bottom of the handset for 20 seconds - the phone went off, then restarted and it all seems OK now.
Def something with the ios 6.1.2 upgrade :-((
