I just downloaded Mountain Lion yesterday from the App Store and it won't install. I stopped it when it wouldn't do anything all day and now how do i restart the installation process?
Uaually when you purchase something from the app store and it has downloaded, you see an install button. I found nothing of that nature. I have a late model 2009 mac mini with plenty of memory and plenty of disk space. What am I missing?
Never mind, I see it's Mountain Lion.
Can you check in your Applications Folder to see if the installer is still there. You are confused on some things, because the installer should be giving you a DOWNLOAD text on the purchases page, not install.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List. -
Unable to download Mountain Lion after purchase in App store.
After purchasing Mountain Lion in App store, I have been unable to successfully download a copy.
It was not interrupted, it just stops.
Every attempt (including the first) fails at 142 MB, with the meaningless "unable to download" error. In the console log I find this:
7/31/13 2:32:56.894 PM storeagent: ISStoreURLOperation: Expected bytes (4437341116) did not match actual (142374555)! Setting error. (See 9215068)
indicating the error. The file was expected to be 4.4 GB (yes), but does not match actual 142 MB...?
I have found references to this error, but no real fix. I have tried every "fix" suggested; Safe boot, guest user login, deleting temp files, hidden files, app store files, debug mode in app store, repairing permissions, changing ethernet ports, changing DNS (loved that one), and others.
I finally erased the hard drive with zeroes, re-installed 10.7, software updated to 10.7.5 and immediately attempted download - it still fails.
I also have no virus software or little snitch, or anything else that would prevent downloads. I have been able to download free and purchased software from the app store (xcode, pages, ibooks author) - that are more than 142MB.
So this is not an ISP, modem, or some other thing preventing me from downloading using the app store. It is a problem *only* with downloading Mountain Lion.
This seems like an Apple problem. Anybody have a real fix?Are you quite sure? Check your model identifier. If you have the first model released, then it cannot run anything past Lion. Be sure you meet ALL the requirements.
Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.

To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

My iPod touch will access the app store, but it won't install from it.
I was given a used iPod Touch, and I don't know any of its history. Eveything was working fine, and then one day I tried to install from the App store and it won't work at all. I can press the "install" button, but then the app store will just close without even setting up an icon on the home screen. If I try to install the same app again, there's no record that I had tried to install it previously. I use this for school, so this is really annoying.
PS: I am a clueless Windows user, and have never owned and i-anything until now. =)Try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost

I just downloaded Mountain Lion for my MacBook Pro from the App Store. I was curious if it is possible to downloand Mountain Lion to my iMac without paying the $19.99 fee again? Not trying to be a cheapskate, just curious if App Store purchases are universal like iTunes Apps.
You can re download Mountain Lion for free on all your authorized Macs using the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select Mountain Lion.
Then right or control click where you see Installed then click Install. -
I just have just downloaded Mountain lion and I wanted to listen to music on my computer screen with my HDMI cable plug into my back of my screen and I wanted to talk to dictation on my regular standard iPhone headphone and I was wondering if it's all possible change your settings Mac Mini to set it so you can listen to those both like your headphones and use the mic in your headphones and there's no settings that would change in the Mac Mini so do there is a flaw in this system or I am just really really really really dumb.
You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
Connect it the new computer
Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

hi all. i just downloaded mountain lion and it seems to have added an old password for admin at the start up, the old password was removed so all i had to do was press enter and off i go, i cant remember it, what to do now??

You can reset a Password (lost/forgotten) set on your Mac using 'Reset Password Utility' available with OS X Utilities tool. With OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Utilities tool can be generally found on a local hidden Recovery HD Partition if your Mac has one.
To check If your Mac has got a local hidden Recovery HD Partition, start your Mac holding COMMAND + R buttons. If you hold the keys pressed enough and there is a local Recovery HD Partition on your Mac, you will be presented with OS X Utilities window.
Click the 'Tool' menu item and choose 'Reset password'. Terminal window appears. Type 'resetpassword' into it and press 'Enter'. Reset Password window appears with User Account Names available on your Start-up Volume. Select the User Account Name and rest is simple to follow.
One of the advantages of this method is that it does not require any Authorization method such as administrative authentication to reset a password.
NOTE: If your Mac does not have a local hidden Recovery Partition on its system disk, you can create one using Disk Assistant application available from Apple. Search for the Disk Assistant in the support area. -
I just downloaded Mountain Lion and everything is working great. But i keep getting an error in the app store and i can't download 'Pages' or any other apps. I keep getting an "error" and it says credit card processing is temporarily unavailable......help
Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Launch the App Store. See if that made a difference... -
Just downloaded Lion and now iMovie won't respond when I try to open it. Even tried deleting the program (since it was an older version) and bought it new from the app store, but still won't respond.
Thanks for this mha007 - I can now open FF with a new profile. Can I copy my settings from the old profile or will this bring over the same problem, maybe a corrupt file. If it would bring the same problem, is there any way I can check which file is corrupt, apart from taking them over one by one?

Just downloaded mountain lion. Have 2 different e-mail accounts but now they come in together. How can they be separated like they were in snow leopard?
Mountain Lion, like Lion before it, now has a combined Inbox and there's no way to separate it as such, though if you click the disclosure triangle to the left of the Inbox icon, you can see individual Inboxes below the primary.

I just download mountain lion to my mac, now microsoft office suite doesn't work....it says 'you can't open the application 'microsoft word' because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. What does this mean and what do I have to do to fix it?? HELP!!
Install Snow Leopard on another boot partition, or upgrade Microsoft Office to a newer version, or use any number of better alternatives. Some of them are free.

In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft. -
Just downloaded Mountain Lion and want to remove natural scrolling; I went to system preferences, but I don't have a mouse. How can I get that to open to change the scrolling?

Hi, I have an iPhone 5s. I just downloaded the Hulu Plus app for my iPhone and in the app store it's as I can open it however when I hit open, it does not open in fact, nothing happens. Also there is no icon for Hulu Plus on my home screen so I'm confused as to what exactly to do I'm going to settings and there's only one thing that you can do which is reset. I tried that. nothing.
Have you restarted your phone?
If so, try a reset. Press and hold the home & sleep/wake buttons until the screen goes blank, ignoring the power off slider if it comes up.
Check for the app again after the phone starts back up.

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
