I just purchased my I MAC, and set up my aol and gmail to the desktop icon. After deleting some messages tonight, I tried to shut down from the menu and received the message "Shutdown canceled because mail application is still open"--icon not working.

I just purchased this IMac yesterday, and set up my two email accounts to the mail icon today. This evening, after deleting some messages, I was not able to open the mail icon nor shutdown, restart, or log off the computer from the menu. I keep receiving the message "shutdown canceled by mail application". Really frustrating.

Press Alt, Command and Esc keys to open Force Quit. Then, on the window that will show up, choose Mail and close it. Finally, you will be able to turn off your iMac

1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPod but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPod with it.

I'm having the same issue. All my applications transferred over. Lightroom is working, but when I went to edit a picture in Photoshop, I got an error message. It told me to restart, but the program still won't open after restart. It says licensing has stopped working, but what does that mean? Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

There are no known viruses for OS X. If you have to worry about a website putting some malware on your computer, then you should not visit it any longer. Find a legitimate site.

Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.

Many generic mp3 players come with a usb style charger/cable. If yours does try connecting the cable to one of the Mac's usb ports and the other end to your player. If it has the appropriate plug 'n play firmware it will appear as a drive icon on the desktop. Browse the player looking for a folder named "music" or something similar. Try dragging some tracks from iTunes and dropping them into this folder. Eject the drive icon (right or control click and select eject). Unplug the player and check for success.

Authorization determines to which computers material requiring authorization can be transferrred using the itunes interface. If you want to re-download past purchases then a computer need to be authorized.
As for transferring music from the iPod, your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is designed with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.
