  • We keep losing connection to our printer from our airport having no channels

We have a brand new HP Officejet wireless all in one machine we purchased in Nov. 2011. We can not get it to stay connected to our Mac computers and when they ran a few tests today on the printer it came up with nothing under channels. HP Is saying we need to get a channel in order to have it stay connected.
I have four computers that are hooked up to this printer that run wireless through the Airport Extreme we have and only one that is an office away seems to not have any issues besides scanning which none of us can do with this. All tests and technical support on the printer came back ok they said we needed to get some one from Apple to help us out. Any ideas as to what might be wrong or how to fix this issue of it losing connection all the time?

Ok, no luck yet. Maybe I can ask another question directly related to this issue. I am trying to find the cause of this and I am wondering if there is a brief dropout in the connection to the NAS. By brief, I mean really brief. The NAS is connected via a Homeplug network connection (network via the homes power points) and maybe for a very brief period interferrence on the lines dropped the AFP connection.
Is it normal that it is then impossible for AFP to reconnect, even when the NAS is clearly back on the network?
Any drop will have to be very brief as I can always stream music without issues, and no drop or slow down has caused buffering issues.
But, I don't recall getting this issue when directly connected to the iMac via a short ethernet cable for the initial Time Machine backups that take over a day.
What I don't understand though, is if the connection did briefly drop and loose the AFP link, why can AFP no longer connect back? Why do I need to sleep the iMac and then wake it again.
HTTP connections to the NAS never seem to drop, and when I can't recconnect via AFP, I can always connect via HTTP? Is this expected of the AFP protocol? Or is it an unexpected issue?

  • Apple magic mouse keeps losing connection with Macbook pro

I have a 2012 macbook pro, after upgrading to Mavericks(10.9.1, not have any other 3rd party software, just pure OS X), my magic mouse always losing bluetooth connection suddenly every one or two days. When losing connection, I found the bluetooth chipset type showing in macbook system information changed to unkown (FFFF). I have contacted with apple global support, and also have not gotten the solution. Just cleaning cache, and ect. but still didn't work.
When I downgrading the OS X to 10.8.5 Mountain Lion, same macbook, same magic mouse, work very well. Never happened lose connection issue during one and a half month.  So, it should be a Mavericks bluetooth driver's issue, or something reletived.
Any body have some good idea in solving this issue?
    Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem with a 2007 MacBook Pro on Snow Leopard. As soon as I changed the mouse's batteries, it started losing connection every few seconds. The mouse came with Energizer batteries originally - they supposedly don't fit well, but the mouse worked fine. I exchanged them with Duracell, which gave problems. Now I have Varta batteries installed, they give problems too. The paper-trick doesn't work for me.
Quite franky, I think it's rediculous that a fancy €69,- wireless mouse is so fussy about batteries. It's impossible to work with it. Is this just another way for Apple to get people to buy their batteries? I think a mouse this expensive should accept any and all batteries. Please, Apple: fix it. Seems like a really simple matter. Just put longer and stronger springs in the contacts for the negative poles.
    Thanks.

  • Keep losing connection with sim-card on my iPad2

Lately i keep losing my mobile connection.
The only way to reconnect is to fully shutdown and restart.
    This is verry annoying
At home no problem. I did not havethis problem in the past so what has changed. And why is there no reconnect solution. Seems easy enough as a way around the problem.

you could try toggling airplane mode on/off when it happens

  • Keep losing connection with EA6500

I have an EA6500 router that I have to power down at least once a day to regain connection to the internet. And every few days I've been having to factory reset the modem to get back online. Is there a setting that I need to change to fix this? Doing either type of reset from the router page doesn't work either, it has to be either unplugging the router itself and plugging it back in, or sometimes the hard-reset by holding the reset button in. I am using a Comcast-supplied modem, Arris model# TM722G/CT.
When the router is working I love it! But losing connection during games, school tests, or backups is really getting old!

Try to isolate the problem by connecting the computer for at least 24 hours, directly to the modem. In that way, you will be able to determine if the problem lies with the router. Upgrading the router to the latest firmware and to reset the router could help resolve the issue. Changing the router’s mtu size: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=fbf8e8564632422eaa8ea80bf9dcba64_386.xml&pid=80&re... could also improve the router’s performance. In case the router would still have the same problem, then might as well contact tech support to report that issue or have that router replaced.

  • IMac G5 (Rev A) keeps losing connection with BT keyboard

In the past maybe three months, my iMac has begun to periodically lose the connection to the keyboard, and I've had to go to BT setup and re-pair them which works until the next time it happens. For awhile it seemed like it was happening at least once a week. I have replaced batteries, blown dust out of the keyboard, etc., but problem still occurs. Now in the last couple of days, it seems everytime I go to use my computer, the connection has been lost between the iMac and the keyboard. I am able to go through setup and pair them up again, but can anyone tell me something I can do that might prevent this from happening--it's very annoying to have to keep going through the setup. I've already had to do it twice today. Could it be my keyboard is going? Also, when this happen, the green LED is still solid green, so it looks like there should still be a connection, but the keyboard doesn't work. Thanks!

    Hello Barbara:
It is no help, but I do not think the problem is associated with the first generation G5's (I have one with BT devices). The few times the lost connection has happened to me, tapping on the BT keyboard keys has "awakened the KB."
If you are still in warranty (I assume that would be extended Applecare) call Apple and ask for a replacement KB. I had a wired one act 'funny' sometime ago and it was promptly replaced with a new KB.

  • When on internet my iMac keeps going to gray screen with message reading 'You are not connected to the internet'. My wireless connection is fine for my other devices, why does my iMac keep losing connection with network?

I have read other post about this and one of them said to uncheck "enable auto channel scan" in my router settings and chang from chanel 6 to 5.  I was able to change the channel to 5 but i can't find anywhere on their page where it has the option to uncheck "enable auto channel scan".  I have a Netgear router WGT624 v3.  Can anyone recomend anything?

I've had this problem for months and finally called Apple support and paid the one time support fee to get a solution.  I purchased a 21.5" iMac in the summer of 2011 and am currently running OS X 10.7.3.  After confirming all my wifi settings were correct (already suspected this, since every other wireless device in the house works great), the Apple support tech recommended changing channels on my router from "Enable Auto Channel Scan" to one channel out of the 11 available.  I currently have a D-Link DIR-655 router, but the tech said the same structure exists on all wireless routers.  In other words, my situation would not improve if I bought an Apple router (Airport Extreme, Time Capsule, etc).  I logged into my router (here are common IP addresses for routers...  http://compnetworking.about.com/od/workingwithipaddresses/f/getrouteripaddr.htm , and made the channel preference change (in my case, unchecked "enable auto channel scan" and changed from channel 6 to channel 5).  It's been a few days since applying this change and so far, I haven't lost my connectivity. Even though I live in a residential subdivision (not an apartment / condo), my iMac is detecting up to 21 other local networks and this was causing interference (some of my neighbors using the same channel).   Sure enough, when I check the channels of nearby networks, I find many are using channel 6 and no one is using channel 5.  To find out what nearby network channels are being used, go to Apple icon in top left, "about this Mac", "more info", "system report", under network choose "wifi", scroll down and see other wifi network info.  Changing the router channel from auto enable to a specific channel has improved both my internet connectivity and speed (not sharing same channel with neighbors).  Hope this helps!

  • HT1600 apple tv keeps losing connection with server

Does anyone else have problems with Apple TV dropping the signal while watching Netflix or an Apple TV show? If so, were you able to correct it? So far we have purchased a new wi fi system as we thought that was the problem, however the connections still drop out repeatedly. Sometimes an error message pops up indicating their is no server or Netflix is busy at this time, try again later. Any insight or assistance would be helpful. We have tried about everything we can think to fix the problem.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Keep losing connection with Photosmart B210

Have a Photosmart B210 which had been working brilliantly however I now can't print on it - even through ePrint.
Initial problem started where couldnt print over Wifi but could email printer to print. Now can't print at all to it other than direct cable connection. If I power reset the printer it works but then loses connections. Says it is offline. Network Diagnostic can't find printer and Print Diagnostic can't find connection either. Diagnostic on printer says all is fine and connected but occasionally says it can't connect to a network (but will still print out all is OK sheet?!)
Please help as driving me nuts!

OK, thanks.  When the printer is offline, can you type the printer's IP address into a web browser to "see" the printer?  On the printout during this time, does the printer indicate that it continues to have a proper IP address (not 0.0.0.0 or 169.254.x.x)?

  • Deskjet 3520 keeps losing connection to Mac

Last night, I installed an HP Deskjet 3520 printer to use with my desktop Mac (which is using OS Yosemite).  I have an etsy shop where I sell prints of my illustrations, so I often have to print out multiple files in a row.  When I installed the driver last night, I was able to wirelessly print the test page, but after that, I could not print wirelessly.  Instead, I used the USB connection, which worked fine.  I printed a round of prints and everything worked fine.
This morning, I need to do some more printing, and my Mac reported that there was no connection to the printer (even though the printer was connected via USB).  I deleted the printer from my Systems Preferences Printers and re-added it, and I was finally able to do my printing (still not wirelessly).
Now, tonight, I have tried to do more printing and the Mac reports that there is no connection to the printer, USB or wireless.  I tried deleting from Systems Preferences and re-adding again, but that didn't work this time.  Then, I tried resetting the printing system, uninstalling HP, and re-installing the driver.  Now, I'm at the part of the installer where the device needs to be configured and I am receiving the message:
Device Not Reachable.  The wireless network settings were successfully downloaded to your device.  However, your Mac was unable to locate the device on the network.
I don't know what keeps going wrong!  The little screen on my printer says it is connected to my wireless network AND I am still connected via USB so I don't know how the device would not be reachable.  I also don't know why the printer would keep losing connection with the computer every time I need to start printing again.  Please help!!

    Hi @tylertot
    This is in deed a little strange, but I'd like to help! Some of the steps I am going to offer are steps you have done, but I;d like to perform the following steps in the order presented to see what happens. Please give the following a try;
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable, also unplug the USB cable. Restart teh Mac and then plug the printer power cable back in. You can also go ahead and reconnect the USB cable.
Reset Printing System  - (I know you did this already, thus you know how, but here are the steps for others who may view this thread)
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions  - I don't see that you have tried this yet, and this step might be crucial to resolving the issue.
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and add the printer back.
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver. You can add the wireless or the USB, or Both. If you ad both, I suggest adding a name to identify one connection from the other.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can the printer driver
You can see in the image above where the name section is, if you add both connection types simply add USB to the beginning of one of the names.
Adding both printers and naming them to help identify them helps when it comes time to print. When you print something you can choose the printer with the appropriate connection type. For example, you can choose the wireless driver ad if you get an offline message try printing again but choose the USB driver. If the USB one works you will know the issue is related to the Wireless connection, and if it doesn;t then the issue is related tot he operating system.  Really this is just a proactive troubleshooting attempt in case issue arise in the near future. If you only want to add one connection type that is okay too.
I look forward to hearing from you.

  • HELP: Keep losing connection!

Just got an airport express last week to replace our philips wireless router because my wife keeps losing connection with her ibook g4. But alas! We are having the same problem with her computer. My macbook pro is connected, but I have had to reset several times already to try and get my wife connected. This is really frustrating, as there are no clear message as to what the problem is. And when I reset sometimes, we both get connection but could not connect to the internet. Do I have to sacrifice security for stability? Because everytime I make the network secure, we always had problems.
    Please, I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks.

sagada, Welcome to the discussion area!
Check for other devices that use 2.4 GHz. These could be directly interfering with your wireless network. Remove those devices if possible. If that is not possible, try changing the channel used by the AirPort Express (AX) until you find a channel that works better or you run out of channels.

  • I am experiencing network failures with my Airport Extremes: the main router is a 2nd Gen, the extension a 5th Gen. The 5th Gen keeps on losing connection with the main router. Any ideas why?

I am experiencing network failures with my Airport Extremes: the main router is a 2nd Gen, the extension a 5th Gen.
The 5th Gen keeps on losing connection with the main router and thus with the internet.
    Any ideas why?

Is the second Extreme configured to "extend" the network created by the first? If so its position must be such that it has a strong wireless connection to the first Extreme. If it is at the limits of the first one's wireless range its connection will be tenuous. Place them closer together and determine if that makes a difference.

  • LaCie external hard drive keeps losing connection to Windows 8.1 computer

    Hello all,
My LaCie external hard drive (Rugged version) seems like it keeps losing connection to my brand new Windows 8.1 laptop. The laptop is an HP Pavillion 15-p 133cl TouchSmart Notebook which I just got today. Basically, every few minutes, or if I nudge the external
a bit, the computer will seem like it disconnected and reconnected to the external hard drive in a split second and bring it up in the Windows Explorer. This external hard drive doesn't show any problems connecting to any other computer, but it has occurred
with 2/3 ports on this computer so far. I'm a bit worried, because I definitely DO NOT want the files on this external to get corrupted in any way. What should I do? Thanks a bunch.

may I know your external HDD model, to check which USB version to isolate power and cable connection issue
if this is USB 3.0 try to attached at USB 3.0 at your laptop, your laptop has 2 USB 3.0 and 1 for 2.0, for external HDD with USB 2.0 sometimes need more power / more than 1 connection, sometimes the power will loose
but since the trigger it will disconnect if you nudge the HDD, I suggest back up data to your laptop first, try to change with other data or power cable, try also update your laptop chipset
try to check with other device to isolate port issue
may I know if you are using other PC, did your external HDD also will disconnect if you nudge it?
contact your external HDD manufactured to get some suggestion

  • Why does my iPad2 suddenly keep losing connection on facetime?

Why does my iPad2 suddenly keep losing connection on FaceTime and tries to constantly reconnect?

Does it happen anywhere that you use FaceTime or only in your home WiFi network? If it happens with your home network, have you tried power cycling your router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
Turn WiFi off and on in the settings. Reset the network settings.
Have you tried any troubleshooting steps at all?
