I'm having log in problems and my iMac freezes

hello,
i have a 27-inch mid 2011 intel 2.7GHz core i5 imac. 6 months after purchasing it i had to take it to an apple store, it would freeze at the apple logo on startup. i was told that my hardware was ok and mountain lion was reinstalled. it ran fine for about a year then kept freezing and crashing when i logged into skype. i set up another user account and that account seemed fine. i couldnt really find any problems so i reset the mac and reinstalled mountain lion. I then had the same problem about 3 weeks ago and i knew mavericks was due for release so i decided to rest the mac again so it was fresh for mavericks.
yesterday my Imac went to sleep and when i tried to log in it kept telling me my password was wrong even though it wasnt (i did check caps lock) then it started freezing again at the apple logo. it has logged on since but in safari earlier i had alot of screen flickering. im new to OSX and really dont know whats wrong
so if anyone knows what could be worng please tell me im getting frustrated now
regards

  • I am constantly having log in problems with my Apple TV

I have the latest version of the Apple TV (bought it about 2 months ago from Currys) and I have updated it so it is up to date, but after a few weeks I got the message 'could not sign in unknown error' and when I tried to sign back in using my apple id and password, the same message came up. I knew my password was right so I came on this site and found a post where somebody had the same problem as me and they had to restore their Apple TV. After reading this I decided to restore my Apple TV, and since then it worked. Another few weeks later this happened again, so I did the same and now it has been about 2 days since I did the second restore and this is happening again. I cannot understand why this is happening when my apple id and password are correct each time, it just logs me out for no reason! I'm fed up of doing restores. Is there a permanent solution to this problem?

  • I am having a serious problem, and I really do not know hot to fix it....

I have noticed that I now have 4 machine authorized out of 5, and I really only use 1 computer. I tried following the steps in the FAQ listed on the site.. going to store>my account> deauthorize all .. the problem is.. Deauthorize all does not show up on my account information. Even after I enter in my password to access my account.
This was brought on by the purchase of 2 albums this morning, via itunes, and being told immediately I wasn't authorized to sync them to my ipod or play them. On the very computer I bought them on. I can't figure out how to deauthorize the other computers because the option dose not show up.. what do I do..

it only says 4 out of five, and yet the deauthorization still does not show up
    Correct.
As stated, *Deauthorize all* will NOT show up until you have 5 computers authorized.
You do not have 5 computers authorized so it will not show up.

  • App store log-in problems and alarm woes

I have a couple issues with my new iPhone.
I've been trying to download the free myspace app and when I do it asks me to enter my account information. I have two different Apple IDs and have tried BOTH (even resetting a password to make sure that it was correct) and no matter which one I use, it won't log me in. It tells me "Authorization failed. Please connect to iTunes"...not a clue what THAT means. How would connecting to iTunes help anything? How do I even DO that on my iPhone?
Also, I've always used my cell phone as an alarm clock in the morning. I wasn't sure it'd go off while locked so I tested it last night and it worked. This morning I woke up twenty minutes late because it didn't go off. And I didn't have the snooze option on so it's not that I slept through it and it stopped. What's the deal?

Ahhhh, but what about computer authorisation and the credit card 3 digit security code.  Wouldn't that stop what you suggest ?  I mean people use keychain for thinks like banks, Ebay, Amazon, and dozens of other things but Apple doesn't trust it for it's own services.  Seems a bit weird to me.

  • Start up disc problems and my imac will not boot from the cd.

    Hi All,
I have a start up disc that needs repaired, according to ONYX so then reading the apple support guide it seems I boot from my OSX CD that came with my iMac and use First Aid. However when I insert my OSX CD my imac reads it fine, as it does with any other cd, yet when I re-boot, holding down C, it won't boot. It restarts, but fails then to read the CD and just re-boots again, and again, and again.
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks all, I appreciate it.
    From abour this MAC:
    OSX 10.6.8
    2.93 Ghz Intel Core 2
    8gb 1333 DDR3
    Start up disc Mac HD

    thanks, but disc is spotless.
When I put the disc in while machine is on it is read perfectly, appears immediatly and can be opened with no issues. It is only on re-boot ti then appears not to engage with the system.
I was advised to re-boot holding the "c" button from the MAC forum which I have done. I have also restarted using the restart button on the OSX disc loading screen.

  • Problems with  Bootcamp and an iMac 27".

Hi, I recently installed a full copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, purchased at Office Depot, on my fully upgraded iMac 27" (Core i5, 4GB, Radeon 4850). My intent was to use Snow Leopard as my platform of choice for work and special projects, while booting into Windows for gaming (PC gamer).
I had an Applecare representative on the phone as I installed the operating system and the process appeared to resolve quite successfully.
I used the Apple Bootcamp Utility to establish a partition size of 300 GB, and then I placed the Windows 7 32 bit full installation DVD into the drive and proceeded with the installation. I ensured that the Bootcamp partition formatted thoroughly (NTFS) and I set Windows to download all the necessary updates automatically via Windows Update.
I ensured that the upgraded GPU drivers were included during the installation (to avoid the black screen issue), as well as installing the Snow Leopard disk drivers, the iMac 27"-specific drivers and new Bootcamp 3.1 update for Windows. The partition worked fine and appeared to have been configured successfully after approximately 2 days of booting.
Soon after, I installed Quake Wars, L4D 1, 2, Mass Effect 2, Need For Speed: Undercover, Mozilla Firefox and Sophos Enterprise AV. Approximately a week after installation, I began to experience malfunctions varying greatly. Sometimes, when I would boot, I would simply reach a black screen with a white, flashing cursor. Other occasions I would load to a black screen, which contained a disk read error (Disk can not be found) and a request to CTRLALTDEL. Yet other times, the computer would simply lock up on the gray, Option bootdisk selection screen. In each of the aforementioned circumstances, the computer would seem permanently stuck, since the computer would not proceed to any operating system, regardless of time allotted (up to 20 minutes provided). On occasion, Windows would boot normally with no problems whatsoever.
During each of the inexplicable lock ups, I would initiate a hard reboot, and boot off of the Windows 7 HP 32 bit DVD. Often, the DVD would perform a boot check of the operating system. On each of the occasions, the operating system check would list no errors. Because I was using the Apple Wireless Keyboard, I assumed that perhaps the issue remained with an inability to strike CTRLALTDEL and quickly purchased a USB keyboard. While I no longer receive the "Can not find disk" errors that request CTRLALTDEL, I still rarely get the black screen with the flashing cursor and I routinely receive the gray, OS option screen.
I believed that perhaps booting with an external drive or jump drive attached might be causing the problem but upon removing all of said drives, the boot malfunctions persist. I used the Snow Leopard Disk Utilities to scan the hard drive and it detected no problems. I also utilized Windows hard drive utility to check for bad sectors. After 2 hours of scanning, no bad sectors or hard drive problems were detected. I finally rebooted the system in ChkDsk and upon 1 hour of scanning, ChkDsk confirmed no problems, bad sectors or issues with the hard drive. Because all three utilities appear to be unanimous, operating from two distinct operating systems, I'm inclined to believe the consensus and dismiss the possibility of a defective hard drive.
While I can always eventually reboot into Windows, I am concerned that the large number of "hard reboots" - reboots done using the power button, which account for 5-6 on bad days, will eventually lead to a diminished lifespan for my iMac's motherboard or power supply. I want to curtail these pointless restarts. Booting with the Windows 7 DVD in the hard drive, yields a clean boot into Windows, however, this is very inconvenient and, moreso, would lead to wear and tear on the DVD that I would rather avoid (as well as not resolving the problems inherent in my Windows boot partition). After running the Windows 7 boot utility, over a dozen times, and receiving no errors at all, I'm at a loss for what the problem can be.
My biggest problem, currently, is to avoid the wave of hard reboots. This most naturally occurs due to the computer locking up on the gray OS option screen. I'll select Windows and the hard drive will not spin up. I was advised to check my boot ini or use utitilities that provided a hard-mapped boot table for the Windows partition but I'm wary of corrupting or damaging my Windows installation.
Has anyone experienced these problems with their Macs, 27" or otherwise? And can anyone help me resolve this problem before substantial wear and tear through constant rebooting results? Thank you for any input and thank you for your time.

Well, you're not alone. Many other users are having the same problem, and it appears that Apple is ignoring the problem. I bought my iMac 27" in June 2010 and installed Bootcamp 3.1 running Windows 7. About every other reboot the gray screen will freeze during bootup and I have to do a hard reboot. Sometimes I get the Disk Read Failure. It is very, very frustrating. The only reason I bought the iMac 27" is that I like the look of it and the big screen; I have no desire to switch to a Mac, as I have too much money invested in Windows development software. I've installed multiple dual-boot systems in other non-Mac systems and never had any problems. I hope Apple stops ignoring the problem and comes out with a fix real soon.

  • When trying to distribute form I get message Acrobat 9.2 has encountered a problem and needs to clos

Has anyone had this problem and solved it? I'm just trying to email the fillable document to myself so that I can post it on our website. I can't get tech support because I have a volume license.
    Thank you in advance!

Hi- I'm using form distribution, not "attach to email."
(If I'm just in my form and click on the submit button I put in, it sends the filled out form nicely to my email.  But it refuses to send it (and I get that error message about Adobe having "encountered a problem and needing to close") when I'm in "form distribution" and trying to send it to myself, or any other email address for that matter.

  • Imac problems and Apple Genius

    Hi All,
I posted a thread about my new iMac freezing and not responding and many of the people from the Apple discussion gave me great advice and support. Unfortunately, even though we repaired the permissions the computer froze up again and a call to Apple support had me doing a reinstall and archive to try and resolve the problem.
After talking to the Apple care tech, he said that it was not normal for the iMac to be freezing the way it was, I requested to I take the computer back to the Apple store that I bought it from. The tech connected me to the store and I made an appointment for Tue. at 10am.
After explaning to the Apple Genius what was going on he ran some diagnostics and told me that the hardware passed all the tests and as far as he could tell. When I questioned him as to why we were having so many problems and all the Mac owners I talked to on the discussion forum said this was very unusual and Macs are extremely reliable.
His reply was that the people on the forum didn't know what they were talking about because they are not Apple employees and didn't have any training. I was amazed by his comment and when I asked him if he was suggesting that it's common for Macs to freeze up and not work properly he started back peddling and said it was uncommon.
I left the computer for more extensive testing but I'm not at all impressed with the Apple Genius that I met and I'm even less confident that my iMac will be fixed properly. I've never had a computer that crapped out when it wasn't even two months old and after dealing with the Mac genius I'm less than pleased with my foray into the Apple computer experience.
    Roger9070

    Hi Boece,
Here are the specs 20" iMac, Core 2 Dou proc 2.16 GHZ, 1 gig ram, 250 gig HDD, 8X Superdrive, Airport wireless, wireless keyboard and mouse, and I'm not sure what videocard is in it.
It has OS X 10.4.9, standard programs that are installed iLife, iWorks, Toast 8, and Mac Office, plus I just re-downloaded software updates from Apple due to the reinstall and archive.
As for how the computer was dealt with during the freezes and lockups my wife called Applecare and they walked her through powering down the computer via the on and off switch no other method would work.
As the computer was rebooting they had her hold down a key combination that included R and P and she verified and repaired the disk permissions. My wife asked if having to many programs opened could cause this because the computer was running very sluggish if she was working in word and opened Safari, he said no.
After repairing the permissions and checking the HDD my wife asked what permissions were and why they would do that he told her what they were, she still doesn't understand exactly what they are, he said he didn't know why but that it was uncommon on such a new Mac and said if it continued we might have to reinstall OS X.
The following two weeks we had occasional freezes ups and a reboot or force quit would normally resolve the issue but then this past Saturday the Mac locked up and again we could not login in shutdown, or restarted. She waited until I got home and then we again called Applecare and they had me put the OS install disk #1 and power down the system with the on off switch unplug the power cord plug it back in and then turn the system on holding down the C key. After the mouse and keyboard were recognized we walked through a couple of setup screens and then went to options and did a install and archive keeping the network settings.
While doing this I explained to the Applecare tech that we had been experiencing problems from the beginning and they were getting progressively worse and asked him if it would be possible to bring it in to the store for a full checkup I felt that something was definitely wrong with the Mac and wanted to resolve it quickly and get our Mac back up and running.
If you check my other posts you'll find another one about the Mac freezing and locking up which I posted after the first major problem. Dealing with and building Windows PC's I've found many times that forums and discussion groups are great places to research a problem because many times someone else has experienced the same or similar problems and a fix or work around can be found.
What I learned from this was that this is not a common problem and other users felt it "could be" a hardware or software issue but was most definitely not a normal thing for any Mac. I've also found that people in these forums are more inclined to give an unbiased and honest opinion based on "their real world use of the product" than someone who is involved in the business.
Being new Mac users we have very little "real world" experience with a Mac but according to the few people we know and those that responded on this forum our problems were not something that is to be expected from any Mac let alone a brand new one and as far as I'm concerned it is something that should be resolved swiftly and to our satisfaction. A brand new product that is not functioning properly is unacceptable no matter who makes it or what it is and the company should fix or replace it without question.
I have only been on this forum for a very short while but so far all the users have been helpful and encouraging and I'm hoping to learn from those who have much more experience than me with OS X and Apple computers in general. Unfortunately, my experience so far hasn't been quite what I'd hoped for with my iMac and my wife and I are concerned that this matter isn't being handled the way it should be so far and this is very disappointing to us given the excellent reputation that Apple has with many others.
    Thank You, Roger

  • Updated to OS X Maverick and now the keyboard doesn't work. Anyone with similar problem and a solution?

I recently updated to the OS X Maverick  and the keyboard   just stopped functioning after working fine the first day. Pressing any key just produces a ding, but no mark. Pressing the return key produces a black dot as if you were putting in a confidential password. Has anyone had a similar problem and a possible solution? Thanks. mj-t

I am having the same problem and its not on every call, its very hit or miss, but very aggrovating. The screen just goes black and the home key nor the power button on top have any affect. Then the locked screen will show but you can't unlock the phone. I have to let it sit for a minute and then I can push the home button and go on in and the call is finally disconnected.

  • "HPLaserJetService.exe has encounterd a problem and needs to close

LaserJet CP1525nw with Windows XP.  Occasionally a popup notification states that "HPLaserJetService.exe has encounterd a problem and needs to close", even with the printer turned off.  What is the cause and how do I correct it?

I see that you have not had a reply to this post since January.  That is terrible.  I am having the same problem and this pop-up notice comes up about once a minute for several minutes and then it pops up less frequently.  It does not matter whether the printer is on or not.  The full text is:
HPLaserJetService.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.  If you were in the middle of something, the information you wre working on might be lost.  Please tell Microsoft about this problem.  We have created an error report that you can send us.  We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.  To see what data this error report contsins click here.
It gives choices of "debug" "send error report" and "don't send"  It does not seem to matter what I click on. The end result is still the same.  The pop-up keeps coming.  I am running Windows XP with all updates.
Please!  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks in advance!
