I'm moving to college soon, and would appreciate some help with my library.

I am moving to college in just over a week and a half and was needing some help with my iTunes library. Currently, at home, I use iTunes as my main source of music entertainment. I purchase music through the iTues Store and upload older music from CDs onto the library as well. I have made several smart playlists based off of information such as play counts and last played dates. Unfortunately, this is all on a desktop that I will be unable to bring with me to school. So I have recently purchased a laptop that I will be taking with me to school. I have already downloaded iTunes and have activated the laptop to my Apple ID. The desktop currently runs on Windows 7, while the laptop runs on Windows 8. Both are up-to-date with iTunes.
With all of that background information, here comes my question. Is there a way to have the same library on both PCs? I don't just mean the same songs, but rather have the same play counts, last played dates, playlists, etc. on both computers. Is this something that can be accomplished through the cloud or iTunes Match?

Copy the ENTIRE /Music/iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
Sync only with the new computer going forward.
Nothing will be updated on the old computer, but if you are not going to be at home using the desktop is that really relevant?

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Ok I've made the mistake of installing a program called Anacron which is supposed to help with the maintenance of OS X. Well I found out after the fact that there is no need to install ANY programs for maintenance as it is all built into the OS now. So I went to uninstall it and wow has this been a headache . First off there is NO uninstaller and when following the read me file that I found to uninstall it, part of it works and part of it doesn't. This is the information to just disable it (not delete it):
How do I disable or remove anacron?
To disable anacron, run the following commands in a terminal:
cd /Library/LaunchDaemons
sudo launchctl unload -w ./anacron.plist
cd /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
sudo launchctl load -w ./com.apple.periodic-daily.plist
sudo launchctl load -w ./com.apple.periodic-weekly.plist
sudo launchctl load -w ./com.apple.periodic-monthly.plist
The above worked, but the info which is supposed to help you delete it all together does NOT work and I would appreciate some help/comments on why it doesn't. Here is the info for deleting it:
To completely remove anacron from your system, delete (trash):
/usr/local/sbin/anacron
/usr/local/share/man/man5/anacrontab.5
/usr/local/share/man/man8/anacron.8
/Library/LaunchDaemons/anacron.plist
/etc/anacrontab
/var/spool/anacron
/Library/Receipts/Anacron.pkg
When I use Terminal to get in there and delete that stuff, when I try and delete Anacron, I'm given a list of file attributes (I guess) .. it looks something like this:
override rwxr-xr-x root/wheel for anacron?
What in the world does this mean and how in the world can I get this crap deleted from my system? Seems like everything I do is not enough to get this stuff deleted.

No, the mac is mine, and this is my account. I still consider myself pretty new to MAC OS X. The time of me registering here is right at the same time I received my iMac which is just over a year. To me that is still pretty new I may have a buttload of posts, but that doesn't mean I know a lot about MAC OS X and the MAC computers.
I certainly appreciate your help with this problem. It worked flawlessly. This is very much like DOS in windows......yuk, just reflecting on the past. Thank you again, sooo much. I now feel much better, what a relief.
Edit: Oh by the way, just answering "Yes" gave me, if I remember correctly, something about forbidden. But doing it the way you described above using the sudo lines worked great and it asked me for my user password, I put it in, then everything was ok, it deleted everything I wanted it to.

Would like some help with Chrome Browser and interrupted downloads

This is my first foray into Macs and I have brought the Mac Mini (base spec, using latest version of lion) about 3 months ago and not regretted it either! I am however having one issue that is puzzling me. Upon getting my Mac I installed Chrome instantly I love it as a web browser and everything worked great, however one day Chrome crashed and I had to use force close from the Apple menu to close it, since then every time I attempt to download any file from the web to my network hdd I instantly get a 'download interrupted' message. Upon trying every other browser it works perfectly and Chrome it self WILL download to the internal hdd but not to my network drive. I really do prefer Chrome for web browsing but having to manually move each file rather than just download it to a set location is annoying. I have reset the PRAM and it didn't have any effect, I am unsure as to what is happening as it was working fine before I needed to force close Chrome. Please does anyone else have this problem and if so is it resolved and how can I resolve this annoying problem.

Hello I have a few questions and I need some help with my iTunes and iPod

Hello iTunes people.
I have a little problem with my iTunes. I actually almost know nothing about iTunes really. But I have had a 80 gig ipod .. ummm I think it's a iPod classic maybe. A long time ago I just downloaded iTunes. I think one of my tech friends already had put the program onto my PC so I did not even have to download it. Anyways I put my life's collection of mp3's onto iTunes and then syncs it with my iPod and it worked great. Here is my problem. I just recently bought a MONSTER PC. I have lovingly named it " ED209 " I downloaded iTunes for it and I have the most up to date version.8.1.1 is the most current version correct? Ok well here is my problem. What I want to do is I want to put everything that is currently on my iPod ONTO the iTunes library. I DO NOT want to import anything from the library or playlist or whatever you call it ONTO the iPod because there is nothing in the library. Now this is were its gets weird and possibly silly. A person I was chatting with on Facebook sort of made fun of me because she was like " Dude! Just push " Sync " But the reason I am paranoid is because THIS is the message I get....
" The iPod " Aaron's iPod " is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this ipod and sync with this iTunes library? "
HOLY COW!! That girl on Facebook was making fun of me but READ THAT. That exactly says ERASE the "iPod" and Sync with THIS library " It does not say put what is ON the iPod into THIS Library. It says it the other way around. Clear as day it says it will ERASE the " Ipod " it does not say " Fill the library with whats on your iPod "
Do I all of a sudden not understand English or something???? I know how to freaking read and from what it says is sounds a 100 percent like " we will ERASE youe iPod and put everything from this playist or library onto your iPiod" But there is NOTHING in my library? Am I mentally challenged or what?
I hope someone can help me here and I have another request. Could someone just tell me all the cool things I can do with iTunes and my iPod? I am trying to read the help files and the FAQ and whatever else Apple provides you with but it has SO MUCH crap that looks usless. 1). Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

Hello, I had a problem recently where my imac crashed to a blue screen while running windows in bootcamp. It appeared to be a major problem and I could no longer boot to the windows partition.
I was able to finally start my computer up on the mac partition thanks to some help from the forum there. However it appeared that the windows portion had met a fatal problem so I deleted the partition from the mac os partition. I continued to try and restall that partition but recieved an error.
After more research it appeared the error would be fixed by using disk utility to repair the hard drive. I ran the disk repair and it froze midway through. I waited an hour and it was still frozen so I restared.
After restarting there was the folder with the ? it appears my entire mac os partition was also eliminated. I now have the mac-os cd in and am attempting to re-install but am coming across a problem.
When prompted with a select destination volume to install mac os it is empty. It appears my harddrive is gone.
If i go under utilities: Disk utility there is an icon of a harddrive called "media" however i cannot verify or repair anything on it. It also displays a total capacity of 0bytes.
Under system profiler Serial-ATA it reads there was an error while scanning.
Does this all mean that my harddrive died? And if so can it be replaced by the apple store? The computer reads iMac 7,1 intel core duo.

It possible your iMac's HD has failed. Run Apple Hardware Test: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 if it reports errors then yes you are due for a trip to your local Apple Store or AASP, either can repair it.

Would appreciate some help concerning Bluetooth...

I have just recently bought a Bluetooth USB for my laptop so I can easily transfer files to and from my BlackBerry and Laptop. My partners Samsung Tocco connected and transfered files fine.
My BlackBerry finds the Laptop's Bluetooth and enter both passkeys on both devices and pair up. As soon as I go to send a file, such as a ringtone or Image, I right click on the file, Send To,Bluetooth, and select the device I want to send to. I get an error message on my Bluetooth Icon in the Tray saying 'Bluetooth - The service does not exist' ???????? I've connected and paired fine with the laptop and it says it doesn't exist??? My BlackBerry doesn't seem to connect to any phone either. I have adjusted options in My BlackBerry Bluetooth Options to be Discoverable and when connect to the laptop mark Trusted - Yes on the laptop Bluetooth.
I rather not use the USB wire for my Blackberry as Bluetooth seemed so much easier, but I guess I was completely wrong. I've been trying this for a few days now and I need your help!

FF has an extention that can be used to increase the conection speed. Its called Tweak Network 1.1 I see a difference on my iMac G5. Its not huge but it may be a big difference on yours.

I've messed up my boot camp partition and would love some help :)

OK So here's what I've done..
I removed my optical drive, inserted a hard drive caddy, moved my main 750GB hard drive to this location, installed a brand new 250GB SSD, installed Mavericks on said SSD, and booted up. Everything was happy. But now I have 550 GB of my 750GB taken up by my old install of OSX. I took all of my files off, put them on an external drive, and formatted the OSX Journaled portion of the hard drive to ExFat. This, of course, broke the ability to boot from Windows.
My goal:
250GB SSD: OSX
750 Hard Drive: 200GB to Windows, the remaining in a format writable to both Windows and Mac. (which is why I chose ExFat).
And, obviously, the ability to boot from either.
What do I do? I don't have any of my original install media from Windows (I think it was a W7 install that I upgraded with a download to W8 from M$'s website). I'd like to retain everything that's installed there already on BC and just repair it somehow. I've read around that ReFit might help. I'm willing to try it if the general consensus says that's the way to go.
Also, I've noticed that when I changed my user account to be able to store on my ExFat drive, that it can never finish indexing and I can't install dropbox. Is there a better solution to what I'm trying to do?

I formatted that ExFat partition to a Mac OS Journaled partition, and my computer seems to be working great. I will keep it like this. Anyone know how to repair that Windows install from BootCamp?

Just loaded CS6 and my 1st project is to convert some VHS tapes into HD DVD's. The VHS player I'm using has R/G/B Component video out & HDMI in/out. My PC video card is a Radeon 6750 with 1 x HDMI (in use for my monitor), 1 x DVI-I, and 1 x D-SUB. My mobo, a Gigabyte GA-MA78GN-US2H, has 1x D-SUB, 1 x DVI-D, & 1 x HDMI. I don't believe I can use both HDMI slots simultaneously. I'm not even sure I can use any of the onboard graphica ports while I'm using an external video card.
So my questions are; 1) which available graphic port on the video card will offer me the best VHS tape capture? 2) what are the capture settings (i.e. frame rate & resolution of most VHS tapes either home recorded or professionally recorded) that I should use?

Usually, video ports on a video card or motherboard are out only. You would need a capture card, or external box to get VHS video digitized into your computer.
For VHS tapes, I would recommend getting a Hauppauge HD-PVR available here: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html
It would save you a lot of headaches and make your job much easier.
If you'd like specifics: the HD-PVR has component inputs with optical audio, along with S-video and composite connections.
I've used it to capture many VHS tapes, and never had a problem.

Would appreciate some help - not sure what just happened?

This is my first post to the Forums, and I have only had my phone for a couple of days (I've never had a smartphone before either), so please bear with me if I sound completely ignorant.
I just got my HTC Droid Incredible over the weekend and I have fallen in love with it! I had no problems until just a few minutes ago. I went to answer a call, but accidentally hit the button to end the call. I just hit the "phone" button to get back into the phone dialer where I could call them back. At this point my screen just went black, and eventually brought up a little red triangle with a red exclamation point on the screen. I kept trying to turn it on but nothing would happen, so I took the battery out, put it back in, and turned it back on. It turned back on, but it brought up a screen that had a little picture of a Droid character and it had several menu options (One of them was recovery, can't remember what the other ones were). I kept hitting the volume up and power button and finally the phone turned back on, and now it seems as if everything is fine with it. Does anyone have any idea why it would do that, and what menu option I could have selected? I am afraid I did something that will mess up the phone.
